As evening turns to night, relax and take in the starry night skies, and steady cadence of the flashing light of the island lighthouse. Idyllic Stay

View is more spectacular than the pictures can capture. Whether sitting in the cozy chairs feeling the breezes through the corner windows, or sitting out on the deck enjoying some drinks and snacks, the ever-changing vista is gorgeous. Comfy bed and furniture; kitchen stocked with all necessaries, great breezes at night and morning lobster boats to watch. Easy to hike/beach during the day and dine in either Cheticamp or Inverness at night. We didn't want to leave!

Tumble Sea Cottage

We returned from our stay at Tumble Sea Cottage just yesterday and we miss it already. The cottage was more than we expected. The view of the ocean from the main living space and deck is spectacular and falling asleep to the waves and sea breeze nothing short of amazing. Check in was seamless and our host was knowledgable and very helpful getting us settled in. The cottage was well appointed with everything you need for an extended stay. We loved seeing the eagles soaring overhead and listening to the playful red squirrels darting from tree to tree in the morning. We stayed a week and would have stayed forever if we could. Stewart, thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven with us.

We had a wonderful stay!

All we can say is WOW! This home is spectacular! The views, the serenity, the comfort and coziness - all wonderful. And the sunsets are amazing! The cottage is elegantly simple, very comfortable, immaculate and has a peaceful, happy and welcoming energy. When we weren’t out sightseeing or hiking, we spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the sunsets and surrounding beauty. The kitchen had everything we needed for meal prep and the bathroom was well-stocked with supplies. Our host, Stewart, was very helpful and shared a ton of great information about the surrounding area, things to do and see, restaurants, etc. He was very responsive and accommodating. We sincerely hope to be back someday soon!

Peaceful Tranquility

After my retirement I spent two weeks at the cottage in late May / early June to unwind, slow down, and clear my head a bit. What a beautiful experience! The TumbleSea cottage is a wonderful place to take in the ocean breeze, see amazing sunsets (and sunrises too), and I don't think I've ever seen the stars so bright. Stewart, the host, took the time to fill me in on places to go and see on Cape Breton, and his suggestions, especially for off-the beaten-path ideas, really helped make it a memorable experience. I highly recommend the Kauzmann Trail in the early morning--spectacular, and even better in my opinion than the popular Skyline Trail. Thanks to Stewart & Bell for an awesome stay at their beautiful cottage by the sea!!

great location

The photos tell the story — a cosy and comfortable cottage in a great setting. Good for anyone looking for "ocean" proximity and privacy. The place is very thoughtfully appointed and comfortable although there were a few components which we felt needed replacement because of evident wear or functionality (eg. the bedroom dresser, the "back" door, the rusted lounger chairs). These weren't deal breakers but considering the price point, such improvements would give it a notable refresh. The main downside is not the cottage itself but how far away Cape Breton is relative to large East coast cities. (If we were to do it again, we'd fly in and rent a car.)

Thanks for the 5-Star review, and for letting me know at the end of your stay just how much you loved it here, and that you plan to return for 2 or 3 weeks next summer! Yes, Cape Breton is “far away…relative to large East Coast cities,” but really, perhaps the point is missed here. It’s not a “downside!” It’s probably in large measure due to its distance from urban centres which both makes Cape Breton extremely attractive to visitors, and what has allowed it to develop such a distinctive, fascinating music and culture, which guests certainly respond to. Local residents, who are unhurried by hectic city rhythms, are very welcoming to visitors; there are also unspoiled hiking trails, untouched vistas, and unbelievably pristine beaches, with relatively few visitors competing for space! In terms of the cottage itself, some of the things which (to this guest) “needed replacement” are actually intentional choices. Our guests have always responded favourably to the mix of contemporary and classic-rustic in our choice of decor and furniture. The bedroom dresser this guest mentions is an vintage Cape Breton piece with character. It’s not posh, but it works, and works in the space. The wood-with-glass doors are chosen carefully, and whenever possible (like this door), still have the original handmade/blown panel glass with which these classic doors were made. This summer has been a intensely wet one, and things are a bit more swollen than they usually would be at this time of year. However, we will check to see if the door can be adjusted.

The Perfect Honeymoon Retreat

My husband and I chose Cape Breton for our honeymoon this fall, initially drawn by the famous Cabot golf courses, and I have a feeling that we'll be back many times again in our lives for the golf in addition to all the other amazing things this place has to offer. We thought this was such a unique slice of the world to visit, made all the more special by the cottage we stayed in. Stewart was helpful from start to finish - he reached out shortly after we booked with some helpful directions and planning, and we met shortly after arriving at the cottage, sharing local hiking, restaurant, and overall experience recommendations. We were touched by the amount of care he showed for the community and helping to make our trip memorable. The cottage was nothing short of incredible, from the craftsmanship, cleanliness, accommodations, and views...the view from the deck is breathtaking and pictures only slightly do it justice. We looked forward to spending the late afternoon and evenings sitting on the deck gazing at the water and sunset after a day of adventure. We will be back! Thanks, Stewart!

I have been living here for more than 20 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 20 years!

Why they chose this property

I built the cottage in 2015-16; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. It is a lovely location with wild roses all around, juniper vines and fabulous unobstructed views of the ocean. The views of the ocean, Chimney Corner Beach, and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want. This building is a perfect getaway for a couple; there's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a multi-level deck, which is stunning- what an incredible panorama stretching out before you! You hear the sounds of the ocean all of the time- really a soothing thing.

What makes this property unique

Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 130 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere, watch whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.

You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (25 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness, which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by Ben Cowan-Dewar and Mike Keiser (who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon). The acclaim for Cabot so far is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.

You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 18 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. Check out renowned crafters in the area; quilting, rug hooking, and folk art can all be found locally.
