The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange. This home is largely original and rustic on the interior. The low price reflects that aspect of the unit interior but the incredible house and great location certainly are impressive. This is for those who want to experience something far different from a polished hotel room during their historic Savannah vacation. Brockington Hall is right next door. The apartment kitchen is stocked with basic utensils (plates, pots and pans, etc) as well as a refrigerator and stove and dishwasher. We do provide sheets and towels at this listing as well.
There are two separate bedrooms in this garden apartment unit, each with a Queen size bed. The bathroom is en suite with one of the bedrooms and the bedrooms have curtains as doors so this is great for parents with a teenager or 2 friends who want to sleep in separate beds but may not be suitable for 2 couples.
We do not have a sleeper sofa so this unit sleeps a max of 4 people.
The gardens and exterior of the home are other worldly, like stepping back in time. All outdoor space is shared with several other apartments in the mansion. Each apartment has its own private entrance. You have a very spacious screened in porch including an outdoor dining table and sofa that is private to this apartment. Parking is free and easy on the street at this location and the main downtown grocery store (Kroger) is less than a block away.

Located by the sea, this apartment is in Historic Downtown Savannah, a neighbourhood in Savannah. River Street and Tanger Outlets are worth checking out if shopping is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Forsyth Park and Savannah River. Looking to enjoy an event or a game while in town? See what's happening at Enmarket Arena or Savannah Civic Center.
The apartment was very clean and was conveniently located with a grocery store across the street. The host should give better instructions on how to use the outside door lock though. It does not work the same as the inside door lock as was stated in the arrival instructions.
Beautiful older home in the heart of Savannah. For its age home was suitable. The apartment we rented was clearly a basement apartment. Some updates would make a hugh difference. The yard is in need of landscaping. The bathroom sink needs replaced. Paint was chipped in places, closet was very dusty with cobwebs. With some paint and an overall deep cleaning the apartment would look lovely! Overall would recommend for a one of a kind, elective experience!
Beautiful, historic building within 2 blocks of Forsyth Park. Far enough away from the high tourist areas to be nice and quiet but close enough for it to be an easy walk to those areas. Also, super comfy beds and a lovely outside area!
Everything was just quite nice. Parking was perfect, which is a VERY good thing in Savannah. In better (warmer) weather, the porch and yard would have been delightful. Did get to sit on the porch for a bit one of the days and it was delightful.
It was such a perfect getaway for a girls trip. We thought the apartment was so cute. It was a gorgeous part of town very close to the Kroger, which was a plus. The neighborhood was beautiful. We really enjoyed reading in the outdoor area.
We stayed 2 nights and everything was good. Close to everything and we used the patio for playing cards when we came home. All in all the stay was very good. We were out most of the day.
Being a single mother for the majority of my son’s life, I’m very aware of my surroundings and safety. I felt extremely safe in the apartment that we stayed at. Kroger and Goodwill were within sight of the apartment. The apartment itself was adorable and was spot on with the description on the site. We were within walking distance of a lot of the major tourist attractions but far away from any noise from attractions. If we happen to stay in Savannah again, it will be at this location.
This was a great location with street parking and walking distance to parks, grocery and eateries. The host was very accommodating and the apartment was clean, quiet and unique. We truly experienced Savannah the way it’s supposed to be experienced, and will definitely stay here again.
Just me and a friend stayed here, but it would be perfect for up to 4 people. The house the unit is in was gorgeous, and the screened in porch was perfect for relaxing. Parking was easy and grocery right next door. Would stay here again!
Place was just as described and perfect for our stay in Savannah. Place is within walking distance to most of the historic district and everything we wanted to see and do.
Perfect location, walkable to parks, squares even river street (a bit of a walk, but doable). Very easy parking on the street. Comfortable beds, nice screened in porch, quiet neighborhood. Walk to grocery. Great stay.
Location was great. Historical house was beautiful on outside but very old and needed some updates inside such as bathroom sink, etc. very noisy upstairs from a toddler I believe, which was not comfortable. Very affordable, though compared to other VRBO.
The place was just as described. It was in a fantastic location, walking distance to everything. The check-in process was a breeze. The place was very clean. Would highly recommend this beautiful mansion.
Visiting Savannah for a wedding. Family staying nearby so the location was great. Convenient to shopping and Forsythe park. Pleasant walk to the river and many restaurants nearby. The apartment was perfect for two adults with access to the garden and yard.
we were here for three nights and had a wonderful stay. the location was only a short walk to Forsyth... we parked our car on Thursday and didn't use it again til we left for home!
