About this property

Escape to Timberwolf Lodge – Modern Comfort, Epic Views, and Endless Games

Perched on a North facing ridge overlooking Strawberry Valley, the house is secluded yet completely accessible to the local restaurants and shops of Strawberry & Pine.

Enjoy star gazing or morning coffee on the wrap around deck. Picture windows maximize your views of hills, pastures, and wildlife from the warmth of a modern home.

Includes 75" smart TV, wood burning stove, pool table, dart board, ping pong table, cornhole, Nintendo, Karaoke, well stocked kitchen, garage, and ample parking.

This unit is pet friendly and the pet fee varies depending on pet size and/or number.

Timberwolf Lodge and our home are surrounded by 2 acres of forest. The rental unit is an entire house with its own entrances, garage, dedicated outdoor space and parking.

There is an abundance of wildlife including many species of birds and squirrels. Elk can be seen grazing the hillside and even come right up to the wrap around deck.

You will have views of trees and Strawberry Valley from the deck and many windows. We have a wood swing on the deck to enjoy some relaxing porch sitting and the gravity chairs are perfect for star gazing.

The house and kitchen are fully stocked with everything from an abundance of towels and shower essentials to baking ware and cooking supplies. We even have a little convenience store in the garage stocked with snacks, bacon, fresh homestead eggs and our homebaked cookies. Let us know a few days before your check-in if you would like to add on smore kits, a fresh loaf of Brioche, your favorite cookies, or local beef. Check the top of the stairs for art and fun merch for sale. Firewood next to the woodstove is also available for purchase.

We (the owners) live in a separate dwelling on-site with our friendly dog, so we're nearby to assist with additional needs, information, or possible emergencies, but you'll have complete privacy during your stay.

You may be greeted by our friendly pup, Bean. :)

The front door is up the stairs to the deck. A door code is required to access (sent on date of arrival).

Check out our social media to learn more about us, Timberwolf Homestead, our friendly pup Bean, and the lodge @timberwolf_homestead and tag us during your stay!

ADVENTURES & LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:

Visit Tonto Natural Bridge (7 miles away) and plenty of other trails close by. Water Wheel Falls (15 miles away) is our favorite easy to access water with gorgeous waterfalls and is great for kids. If your are ready for a big hike, Bob Bear Trailhead (2.2 miles away) takes you to Fossil Springs and rewards you with beautiful cave of bright aqua blue water. It's 4 miles down hill to the water and 4 miles back up the hill to get out. Water and electrolytes are highly recommended.

The Strawberry strip is just 2 miles from the house. We highly reccommend eating at Fossil Creek Farm, Pie Bar and pizza at Momma Joes in Strawberry. Unwind and meet some Strawberry locals at Sportsman Chalet. They have cold beer, a great Bison burger, and the Wineburger also comes highly recommened.

Pine Downtown is 5.5 miles from the house and offers great options like THAT Brewery, Old County Burger, Old County Inn, and definitely check out the Pine-Strawberry Farmers market open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Pine Creek Lavender Farm is a lovely spot to visit as well. Ponderosa Market in Pine has a large selection of basic necessities, alcohol, and groceries.

For an additional adventure, check out Below the Rim Meadery, a bar in the woods. Be sure to approach from Houston Mesa Rd near Payson. Google can take you on a nearly impassable route through the forest roads.

Nice place to spend a few days

We are all in our 70s and really enjoyed our stay. We played cards every evening and corn hole in the afternoon . Nice close location to restaurants and shopping. Enjoyed the elk in the evenings. Very peaceful and relaxing here. Would definitely return.

Great for teens - plenty to entertain! There were a ton of daddy long legs but after some Tictok education, the teen girls calmed down. You leave them alone, they leave you alone (it's a cabin after all!) Comfortable accommodations, spacious kitchen, enjoyed it tremendously! (Elk everyday!)

Quick Weekend Getaway

The hosts were amazing in communication and having the location prepared. A special guest greeted us (Bean) and she was a lovely dog to have come and go - we are a dog family. The location was excellent as you woke up and went to bed with amazing valley views and wildlife on the commute in and out. Will absolutely stay there again if the opportunity presents.

We loved everything about our stay

This was a great place to stay! All 3 of us agreed, this was an awesome place. We had fun talking on the deck, playing pool, dartboard and ping pong. And it was a great base camp for seeing the sights. Wish we could’ve had a campfire, but that was out of everyone’s control. All in all, it was fabulous!! Thanks Josh, and Meghan for the delicious cookies. We hope to come back someday!

Heaven in the pinea

What a gorgeous property, something for everyone. As beautiful as the property is inside it’s equally beautiful day and night on the outside-talk about a star show. We had a great time and it was a much needed break from school and home. Transformational experience

Amazing View and Helpful Hosts!

Where do I start? Amazing views! Beyond comfortable cabin. Lots of room to spread out and enjoy the pines. This cabin sits on it's own street with wildlife freely roaming. Close to Momma Joe's Pizza and Fresh Pies next door. Josh, Megan and Bean were helpful, accommodating and wonderful! We highly recommend these hosts and cabin for your stay. Bring your poochs here! This cabin has it all! Josh and Megan have thought of every detail for your stay from towel warmers to a huge selection of coffee and hot chocolate! They also have a Porch Store for you to purchase homemade goods (Megan is an exceptional baker) or stuff you forgot. Bonus: you are helping support a small and local business! We plan on making this a once a year vacation! Cheers guys! You exceeded our expectations and a thank you to Miss Bean for showing Flower and Flash around!

Great Quiet Getaway

We looked for a place that would be a little out of town and that would accommodate us and our two dogs. This location checked all the boxes. I worked a couple of days remotely and never had any issues with the Internet. This location also had a great view as it was off the side of a hill. We always love seeing wildlife whenever we stay in Pine or Strawberry, so we were excited when we saw the elk on the property. This property has a beautiful wraparound deck that you can enjoy… We played cards and just hung out.. it also has a couple of game rooms in the basement that include ping-pong, a pool table, and darts. We did not utilize the game room this time… We did take note that this would be a great place to bring the rest of our family because of these activities that you can take advantage of. In the game room/garage where the ping-pong table was it was also a little concierge service area that had a refrigerator and a portable freezer. The refrigerator had some homemade goodies, sparkling water, and eggs fresh from their farm. TheseIf you so chose to do so. In the freezer, they had different types of bacon that could also be purchased. I thought this was perfect since it was a little out of town and not as convenient to get to a store. We are frequent visitors to Pine and strawberry as they are close to our home in Apache Junction and we will definitely book this cabin in the future Josh Megan and Lynn were all amazing and very responsive.

We’ll Be Back

My dad, brother, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle and my little dog counted the days until our two-night stay here. And it didn’t disappoint. After several really tough years that included the passing of my mom, this was the first time my family saw me happy. I can attribute much of that to all of the games provided — taking us back to our childhood of competition for me and my brother. We are currently planning for a return in the fall.

About the host

Hosted by Josh

Host profile image
Our family, who manage the property together, are originally from New Jersey, Morris County, about 20 mins from NYC. We moved during peak-pandemic and settled in Northern Arizona. We love the high desert and the magnanimous scenery it brings on a daily basis, as well as the dry weather and calm. What is called Rim Country was an easy choice to land on with its "sea of trees" (Ponderosas) and its sprinkling of lovely small towns like Payson and the charming unincorporated communities like Pine and Strawberry. Strawberry was especially ideal for us in that the elevation and orientation, especially of our particular site, allow for a cooler, more temperate climate and a rather mixed variety of native flora. Wildlife is also a very rich element of the area, there being an impressive concentration of Elk, which seem to dominate the scene, though they share the forest with deer, bobcat, coyotes, bear, and mountain lion, as well as the free range cattle that occasionally veer off from the surrounding ranch land. The neighbors in Strawberry-Pine also bring diversity to the animal scene, maintaining space for horses, alpaca, llama, sheep, etc. We love hosting here because of the joy this property and area brings to the guests, whether they are a family trying to get away from the heat of phoenix or avid hikers or sportsmen craving adventures.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood, the community itself is a lovely microclimate, a valley, that allows for strips of mixed forest in a semi-arid high-desert just below the Mogollon Rim. There are pondo pines, junipers, oaks, walnuts, and willows as well as old fruit trees here. There is also a diversity of bird life, ungulates like Elk and deer, and also the javelina. We also get skunk, racoons, mountain lion, coyotes, and bears, though rarely seen. This doesn't include the Blue Heeler named Bean who has staked her claim to the whole property here (haha). Strawberry has a definitive rural way of life with its roots in logging, giving a small town feel and a slow pace (Pine Time). At the same time, Payson and all of the box stores are only 20-25 minutes away. So, the area is not so remote that a fully stocked supply hub is not too far away. The house is fully updated with wifi, big TV (70"), modern kitchen, a game room sporting a pool table, ping pong table, dart board, and nintendo, but it is also positioned on a property that exudes Nature. You will have the option of indulging in those creature comforts you hold dear while preserving your privacy, as well as to get out, explore, and breathe the fresh air. You can come fully prepared with a week's worth of packed clothes or use the option of the updated washer-dryer in the garage. This home gives you the option of central AC and heating and/or the use of a woodstove for roasting marshmallows and making smores. In the back, under the terraces, there is a firepit not far from the grill, which is on the wrap-around deck. There is a diversity of plant and wildlife on the property itself and good access to more views and hikes via highway or service roads, where many enjoy the off-road and camping experience. It is very common to wake up to Elk browsing outside your window (not in winter). And if you need any assistance at all the host himself is ready and willing in a nearby but completely separated unit.

What makes this property unique

Quiet, clean and off the beaten path, but still very close to Strawberry & Pine, offering a country experience in a modern and comfortable home. Quick service. Various stocking options. Pet Friendly. Reasonable pricing.
