About this property
Oceanfront Secluded Fire Island Home, a hidden gem
Beautiful Oceanfront home on Fire Island surrounded by National Seashore on either side. Located a short distance from the town of Water Island, this house offers a true escape. Accessible by Water Island ferry, water taxi or private charter. We provide one free round trip with H20 Limo to the Water Island dock where you are dropped off with your luggage and two wagons. Parking is available for a fee at the H20 Limo marina This house is situated in the 4 house community of Spatengaville, just a 15-20 minute leisurely walk from Water Island Central. You can bring your groceries or have them shipped to the Water Island dock. You can also walk or take one of the fat tire electric bikes to the nearby Pines Pantry. The center of the Pines is about 2 miles West of the the house which is an easy fat tire bike ride. All bikes come with a lock and we ask that you do lock the bikes up when not at the house. We currently have at least 3 fat tire electric bikes and 3 non-electric fat tire bikes. The number of working bikes can vary with the season, as the salt water and sand will periodically make a bike or two unusable. Davis Park is about a 2 mile walk East.
You can also take water taxis from the Water Island or Pines to other neighboring towns for a night out. Information included in our welcome packet.
Mostly, the charm of this place is its seclusion. Meditate on our large outside circular lounge chair. Do Yoga or Tai Chi on the beach. There are plenty of beach towel and beach chairs, books, board games, wifi, kadima, frisbee, kite. Boogie boards etc.
Reviews can be helpful and while most of ours have been very positive we always try to take any negative ones constructively. We therefore now have an extra Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic wide chair to go along with the couch (See added pictures) and a completely new AC unit as one of the three last years was acting up. We also now have shades that can completely cover the East and West Side of the Main living room for privacy (We originally relied up on the house's seclusion). We also purchased two new boogie boards which will arrive June of this year.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

This house was great for our family vacation. We had fun riding the bikes to The Pines and walking to Davis Beach! The view was amazing and the beach peaceful! I definitely recommend this property. J Gibert
This house was such a special location for our family beach trip. It has an unbeatable beach-front view and given the sparseness of houses around it offers practically a private beach. It was a very unique beach trip for us who are used to very crowded beaches in the NY area. Would highly recommend for those looking for an experience and peaceful surroundings.
We absolutely loved staying at Eben and Judy’s gorgeous beach house. The location felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. Highly recommend if you’re looking to unplug and relax. It’s very remote, so come prepared with your groceries and necessities. That said, Eben and Judy thought everything to make it special—from the electric beach cart read at the dock to the locker stocked with spices and coffee.
This is a beautiful home with everything we needed in it. We're a family of four (with a 15 and 12 year old boys) and we had plenty of room to inhabit the space comfortably. Even if the house wasn't spectacular, you're surrounded by a pristine beach with incredible views from both inside and outside. It's a postcard coming to life.In the mornings, we could drink coffee on the front deck and watch deer wander through the brush. At night we'd BBQ on the deck and the stars were spectacular. Our children enjoyed spending time on the private beach, riding the e-bikes, and trying to identify birds. We also took walks along the beach to both Davis Beach and the Pines. (We also brought our dog who, while afraid of the ocean waves, also had a great time.) Eben and Judy were also incredibly responsive leading up to the trip and once we were there. We'd 100% stay here again.
This bungalow is a lovely private oasis suited to re-charge and get away from the hustle and bustle. As other reviews state, "this is remote" and a very beautiful spot in the world. I can concur it is a decent trek from the ferry to the house, so I would recommend to pack as light as possible (we had no electric cart for the haul, not in listing but in another review, my fault for not double checking where I saw it ), but that is also the charm and adventure of Fire Island! I will also pass along there is just one couch and not all the furniture shown in the pictures...we are a family of four with 17 and 19 year olds, we had a few 1/2 days of rain and with one couch it was cozy watching a movie, though as a plus, there are a lot of streaming options which is great. All in all, a perfect little spot for stunning views and the sound of the ocean, with nothing to get in your way of either!
Beautiful location and helpful hosts, but property is lacking
We recently completed a 5 night stay at this "top of the line" house. The house is beautifully situated on the beach, and for those who love privacy, the location is idyllic.
The property is short of our "top of the line" expectations. First, the main living room has no window shades. The result of this lack of shades is that through most of the day you are wearing sunglasses in the house.
Second, during our stay, the living room air conditioner was not working. A floor air conditioner was available and we used it, but temperatures in the main room of the house were 90+ during the day. As much as we went to Fire Island to enjoy the outdoors (and we did!), we also avoided all houses without AC.
On the final day of our stay, the AC repairman came. He shared that they have replaced multiple components of the AC unit over a period of many weeks. The latest replacement failed yet again. An alternative approach would be to recognize that a "top of the line" house needs AC, and to replace it immediately.
The best hosts prioritize hospitality above all else, and in so doing they know that they will be profitable. This house is not "top of the line", and the details I have not mentioned (kitchenware, damaged boogie boards, etc.) further illustrate my point.

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay! We were surprised to see your review as you never communicated any issues to us during your stay. That is of course your prerogative, but it makes it hard to fix anything in real time.
As the house sits on the Ocean with sliding glass doors on all sides , there is always, even on hot days, an incredible cross breeze and we ourselves never use the air conditioners. It is also not a very big house with three still working units. More importantly we were completely taken by surprise by the AC repairman's inability to fix this issue in a more timely manner. Had he simply told us of the difficulty up front we would have immediately purchased a new unit but I think he too was surprised. We received multiple promises which he believed that the fix and needed part was just around the corner. We did mention the issue in our welcome packet and did give one renter who objected on the day he was supposed to take the house a full refund.
As one essentially has a private beach, and as you pointed out, privacy, we did only put up shades in the bedrooms.
We do take these reviews to heart. And while I am sure it is Irrelevant to you, we will have a new unit or a working unit with multiple back up parts next season. We will also very seriously consider shades for the living room.
A previous review complained about not having a shabby chic chair to go with the couch. We considered this complaint and that chair is now there.
Beautiful and remote, this home is a one-of-a-kind stay when it comes to truly getting away without having to go to the airport or change time zones. Eben and Judy are lovely and considerate and think of everything you might need. A true delight.
It is impossible to state how wonderful the setting of this house is. It looks directly out onto the beach with nothing around. The house is lovely with three good bedrooms and a fantastic great room kitchen. It is fully stocked with everything you need for a wonderfully relaxing vacation. Plus they responded quickly to any questions. The only thing to point out is that this is a fairly remote location with no markets, restaurants or other amenities nearby. We were able to get everything we need via instacart and the ferry but it requires some planning. We would rent this place again in a heart beat.
The house, location and views are absolutely spectacular. The main room is essentially a glass box sitting out on the beach with breezes and the sound of waves breaking.
The outdoor dining table has great bay views and sitting outside for meals with an umbrella and gas grill are delightful. We were there during the 95 degree+ heat wave and were comfortable with no AC and in fact were chilly at night.
The place is heaven! Detailed and designed skillfully the house is a dream and the owners accessibility and attitude is just as wonderful. We walked to The Pines and Davis Park. You have to bring everything with you but they have an electric wagon and you feel as though you are on a far away secluded beach.

Why they chose this property
A true escape. Basically a private beach with just 4 houses surrounded by National Seashore. Yet everything is easily accessible with a water taxi ride. Lifeguards also nearby.
What makes this property unique
This place is totally serene and beautiful. If you want privacy and seclusion where you rest and yet still want to have the opportunity to eat out or shop at nearby towns after a beautiful and romantic water taxi ride, this is the house for you.
