About this property
Spacious Cabin on Cedar Creek, Shenandoah Forest Immersion!
Spacious Cabin on Cedar Creek - Make memories at Shenandoah's best hidden getaway! Enjoy the quiet tranquility of our 30 acre forest, take out the kayaks, do a little fishing, or visit our egg laying chickens. Perfect for forest bathing (shinrin-roku), wild edible foraging, bird watching, and nature immersion.
Ideas for your Cabin Experience...
Some come for the forest immersion (aka "forest bathing") where we have stations set up to experience the forest: at the creek, by a meadow, or deep in the woods (5-6 locations in all) accessed by easy trails. Forest immersion emphasizes slowing down and being present in the moment rather than reaching a destination or achieving physical exertion. Observe, touch, smell and listen to the forest and the animals. Take only memories, leave only footprints.
Other ideas - Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea before breakfast, taking in stunning views overlooking Cedar Creek from this two-level cabin, deep in the Virginia countryside.
Cool off in the creek at the local "Swimmin' hole", which ranges from 2 to 4 feet deep, or cast your line in the hopes of catching a brook trout, or other native fish. Bring your PFD, fishing rod, and water shoes. Two Kayaks and a canoe are available to paddle about - or you can coordinate with your hosts for a 2+ hour kayaking trip on the creek. Extended trips may be dependent on rainfall. Additional charge will apply for a guided trip.
Relax in one of two hammocks in the front yard or lounge down by the Creek. Spend the cool mountain evenings roasting marshmallows by our natural rock fire pit - firewood is provided for guests. Watch fireflies dance among the trees, while you sip a glass of local wine from our two-tiered deck.
Virginia wildlife abounds - walk the trails along the creek, woodlands, and meadows of the Cabin's 30 acres. Sit quietly and you may just see a doe and her fawn, wild turkeys, or a fox or mink. Don't sit quietly and you might see a squirrel. ;) Enjoy wild edibles when in season: Wineberries, Hickory Nuts, Walnuts, and Pawpaws. Yum! Consider this your private forest nature retreat filled!
We also have chickens on the property. We don't have a rooster, so you won't be woken by "cockel-doodle-do" in the morning. You can sleep in.

Beautiful, relaxing weekend. Enjoyed the space, the well-placed pairs of chairs to catch all the different sun angles, the beautiful sound of the water and wind. Lovely time. BBQ rec was spot on. Enjoyed fires both inside and out. Wonderful getaway, thanks!

Thank you so much. We appreciated you choosing the cabin on Cedar Creek. Feel free to share photos with all your friends on the other side of the pond.
The cabin felt remote like we desired but was also convenient to small communities for restaurants and such. The property was beautiful, and the hosts were especially great.

Thank you so much. We hope you come and stay again.
We booked the Cabin on Cedar Creek for a post-Thanksgiving family getaway, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. Rich and Mary were wonderful hosts; friendly, responsive, and thoughtful from start to finish. The cabin was clean, cozy, and had plenty of room for our family of three. The views of the water from the cabin were beautiful, and we awoke on our first morning to a light snowfall that made the whole property feel magical. Even with the chilly weather, we still enjoyed exploring the area, and the sound of the creek running nearby added a peaceful ambiance throughout our stay.We enjoyed our time so much that we decided to extend our trip an extra day. Overall, it was a perfect little escape for our family, and we’d gladly return.
I cant say enough what a magnificent time we had here! The house was well stocked, clean and very comfortable. The property grounds were incredibly beautiful. Rich and Mary are wonderful hosts! We will be back! Enjoy your stay!
A perfect stay. Would be perfect for kids and adults of all ages. We brought our 2 year old daughter and our 3 month old son and it was perfect. Not only was the property perfect and well set up and the grounds beautiful for playing in the creek or hiking around, but Rich and Mary are the kindest and most accommodating hosts. We cannot recommend this place more highly We hope to come back ourselves!
If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful country setting, this is your place! We had a wonderful long weekend hiking, and visiting some of the local spots, but mostly just relaxing at the cabin. I really appreciated the comfortable beds and high-quality linens and towels. The soaking tub is fabulous! The deck overlooking the river was a favorite spot of ours. Highly recommend!
Cabin is perfectly situated for a full immersion into nature! Delightful sound of the creek running nearby with incredible views of trees, rocks and water. It was spacious and rustic, quiet and comfortable. A great place to fully disconnect and relax. Rich met us upon arrival. Gave quick tour and went over highlights and set us up for a perfect stay. We plan to return. Thanks so much for sharing your space. Delightful!
Rich and Mary's gorgeous cabin was exactly what my partner and I were looking for in an October getaway: peaceful seclusion, waterfront access, and close proximity to Shenandoah National Park. We were able to spend two full days exploring, hiking, and fishing the north and central regions of Shenandoah as well as Cedar Creek and Seven Bends State Park. We absolutely loved getting to light a fire in the indoor stove each night to warm up and relax after our adventures. Rich and Mary's recommendations for our stay, Old Dominion Doggery & Burger Shoppe for dinner and taking the climb to Woodstock Tower for unbelievably stunning views, were added highlights to an already amazing trip. In sum, Rich and Mary were fantastic and responsive hosts, and we truly appreciated their wonderful accommodations.

We had a wonderful time in the Shenandoah Valley. The cabin was beautiful, and well maintained. The owners were very nice and helpful. I would recommend this place.
The hosts were wonderful. Met me at the cabin when I arrived. Scenery was beautiful and I was able to relax and enjoy the beautiful area. I would recommend staying here.
This place was everything we had hoped for and more. I was there for 3 nights with my kids (ages 6, 5, and 3) and we hardly left the property. They had so much fun playing in the creek and on the deck, but the highlights of the trip were the hammocks and roasting marshmallows. Rich and Mary thought of everything and truly provide a wonderful place for a family vacation.

About the host
Hosted by Rich
My wife and I are semi-retired, and love country living. We raised 3 children (now adults) in Northern Virginia, and moved to the Shenandoah Valley once we were "empty nesters". We fell in love with the natural beauty that is here, including the animals that live in the forest, and the birds that come to visit. Ask me about all the animals we've seen. You may be surprised!
Why they chose this property
The Cabin on Cedar Creek has its own unique beauty - where you feel like you're in another world. It's secluded ... but it's also close to Shenandoah National Park, the Shenandoah River, and other attractions such as Shenandoah Caverns!
We also love the history of this land, which dates back to 1760 - prior to the founding of our country. When you're here, ask me about the settlers who once lived here.
What makes this property unique
You will love the tranquility of the cabin and its location next to Cedar Creek, where you can hear the water flowing and the birds singing among mature Shagbark Hickory, Oaks, and Sycamores trees.
