The cabin was wonderful! Everything was very clean, had all the amenities we needed for a great Thanksgiving, and had plenty of room for the whole family!

Beautiful piece of wooded property. Fire pit was great. Lots of space for sleeping. Main kitchen was a bit cramped for our group. Additional bedding materials would have been appreciated.
Close to the State Park and right in the middle of the little town of Story, this cabin is beautiful on the inside and out. We really enjoyed our stay! Also, it is only 20 minutes from Nashville which was nice so we could go to restaurants and shops. We definitely recommend!
The stay was a wonderful time, very clean and comfortable. The property is hidden in the hills and secluded, which made for a very nice and quiet stay! I would recommend this property to my friends and family looking for a nice and relaxing long weekend trip!

We think that the brown couch in the upper suite has bed bugs. My son slept there and he really got ate up. No one else did.
Exactly what we were looking for! Very nice cabin just on the edge of the small town but enough away for privacy, up on the hill. Property manager was very responsive, and I really appreciated the attention to detail, comfort, and cleanliness. I would definitely recommend and likely come again myself.
This wonderful property is located in the historic district of Story Indiana! The house was clean and stocked with a few items to make your stay easier! The balcony was amazing! Very quite place to relax. The owners were flexible and easy to work with. We really appreciate that they are pet friendly as is is hard to find places that are and we love traveling with our 2 dogs!
This was my second time staying at this property, this time I traveled with my in laws and booked the adjoining room as well this time. Area had a lot of snow the evening of checkin, but we had 2 meals at the Story Inn and one in the kitchenette. Got a little shopping done in Nashville once the roads were cleared. And of course enjoyed the sauna! A slightly snowbound trip but beautiful and low key and enjoyable. Would book again if I’m in the area, maybe a different season since I’ve done winter twice now…
Loved the sauna “the smudge” we throughly enjoyed visiting the cabins and will definitely come back when it’s warmer…and maybe try and rent out all the cabins with family and friends so we can get the most out of family time together. Brown county never disappoints 🤩
Creepiest place I've ever stayed. Nasty pond unmowed grass poison ivy everywhere. We left 1 day early.

Brian. I'm sorry you feel that way. Considering you didn't know how to use a numbered keypad, I was concerned myself about your booking. Perhaps next time, read the name of the property "Rustic Retreat." We have MANY MANY five star reviews. Our property is beautiful, rustic, surrounded by woods, and sits on a hill (there really isn't much to mow?) and a pond. I would recommend you consider further researching before your next booking.
Great place to Stay in Story IN. We will come back!
We were in the Treehouse and it does not have a kitchen. It does have more than most hotels.
We brought what we needed for meal prep and clean up.
My husband said he missed having a kitchen but i am not sure why since he never really uses one ;)
We came to visit a close friend and share the experience of the total eclipse. There is hiking close by and the Story Inn and tavern walking distance.
The accommodations, the eclipse, the weather were all PERFECT
We didn't have any hot water on sunday, so couldn't take a shower, saturday was fine, lots of hot water, don't know what happened on sunday. Kinda disappointed it didn't have a full size frig and no microwave or sink in kitchen. It was clean and nice
Overall good. Although cabin appeared clean, after walking in cabin in stocking feet,we noticed bottom of socks covered with pet hair. Snowed 5 inches before arrival, the driveway was cover and slick, it ws hard to determine where parking area began and ended. We had to move snow in order to get cabin door to open.

Rustic Retreat
Loved all the extras with this property i.e. robes, snacks, and rustic decor and it was clean. Secluded and relaxing stay. We however could not get the code to work on the keypad (Luckly the siding door was left unlocked). We called the owners but never got a response and had to leave the unit unlocked whenever we left. We tried the keypad ten times a day. It was a simple keypad and instructions; we could lock it from the outside but could not unlock it. We did end up leaving a day early. For the most part we were there only ones staying there.
We went for the scenery and the scenery and the solitude did not disappoint! This location is serene and just what we needed. However, it was disappointing that when we got there, the unit had not been cleaned from the previous person. When we got ahold of the owner, she told us to go to the bottom unit and we could stay there instead. We went to that one and it wasn’t cleaned either. Not a good start☹️. When we let them know this, they said they would have someone there to clean within the hour and they did! They even gave us a small refund for the inconvenience.
Cooking in the unit was a bit of a challenge because there isn’t a kitchen, just a Ninja oven and no kitchen sink to wash anything, except the bathroom sink. But we were only there for the weekend, so we made it work. But the owner was helpful and the location is great is you want to get away from the crazy, so knowing these things, I would still recommend.
First off, we enjoyed our stay. The area is nice and quiet. The other guests that were staying in the other cabins were quiet. We loved that we got to bring our dogs! The cabin was clean and the host was quick to fix a bedding issue that we ran in to. However, there are things you need to be aware of before booking. There is no kitchen in this cabin. I know the picture shows a small kitchen area which is a bit misleading. There is no kitchen sink, no oven, and they did not even provide water for us to drink. We had to go out and get water bottles, plates and silverware. If you were planning on cooking any meals while staying here, you will not be able to. It was also frustrating because the picture shows that there is a coffee pot in the cabin but they have since replaced it with a one cup Keurig. If I had know this, I would have prepared differently because I drink A LOT of coffee.

Not disappointed, but didn’t meet expectations
Everything was clean, just not as expected. Not sure how this is listed to sleep 4 people. With one bed, one small couch and a seat. There is no stove or griddle. There are two mini refrigerators, which were useless after the electric was out for 10 hours. We assume this host is used to power outages due to the solar paneled security cameras and flash lights left in the cabin. This is a completely shared area among 3 other neighboring cabins. In which one of our neighbors seemed to be filming a reality TV with the amount of fighting we heard from the air vents. As well as the slamming car doors and arguments outside. Which brings me to the parking arrangements… if all 4 rooms are sleeping 4 people that is potentially 16 vehicles in a very compact “parking lot” located up a narrow and winding driveway with only enough room for one car to pass at a time.
I understand some of these things could be out of the hostesses control, however there is room for improvement. My suggestions would be: invest in a generator, add a trash can to the bathroom, add a stove or griddle, limit the amount of people allowed to stay at one time, better parking arrangements, include activities for power outages.

Good morning. I’m sorry you are disappointed. I do feel however your review is slightly unfair. There is a rollaway bed in the closet. Maybe you didn’t see it. I unfortunately cannot control strong storms that cause the power to go out. The solar lights are because we didn’t want to drill new holes in the building so chose solar (not as you mentioned that we are used to power outages). The flash light is also something we leave as a courtesy in case someone takes a walk down to story or walks their dog. The description of the property also clearly explains that this is one suite in a cabin of four suites. It is also clear from the pictures what is available, showing that there is an oven/microwave/toaster combo. We also recently invested several thousand dollars into extending the parking. I’m addition to the parking directly behind the cabin, there are spots along the driveway and next to the pond. I can’t imagine that if 16 people were in the cabin that they would each be driving their own vehicle. I’m sorry that the neighboring unit caused issues. If I had been made aware I would have happily asked them to change their behavior or leave, as that is in our policies. I also apologize there was no trash can in the restroom. There always has been so someone has moved it or taken it. I’ll make sure a new one is place.
In the future, I would recommend that you carefully read the description of the property before booking. As well as look at all pictures. This will help you have a better stay. We have always had wonderful reviews and I’m sorry that you could not leave a better one. But I feel that could have been avoided by more attention to detail on your end and notifying me the neighbors were an issue. Thank you for staying and we wish you the best of luck in your future travels.
Such a gem! Needed a place to stay near Brown County State Park before/after Hilly Half Marathon this weekend. This was the only location with king size beds I was able to find, which was just about my only requirement. The location was easy to find, well stocked, and SUPER clean. Enjoyed the wood fire sauna after the race. Walked the short distance to a delicious meal at Story Inn. Would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.
We were down to enjoy the State Park. Nice and close, yet very secluded! Will definitely be back!
Thanks!

About the host
Hosted by Cara Huffman
Hello, we are Matt and Cara. We are real estate brokers by day and live two hours away from the cabin. We live on a small farm with our beloved animals and we enjoy horseback riding, boating, camping, and outdoor life.
Why they chose this property
We were married in Story in the summer of 2020 and fell in love with the town and people. When the log cabin sitting up on the hill overlooking Story became for sale, we decided to purchase it as a place to stay during our frequent visits, and as an investment property so others could enjoy it as much as we did. We've added many amenities since the purchase and continue to improve the property as we are able. We hope you love it!
What makes this property unique
The cabin is located next to several trail heads connecting to Hoosier National Forest and Brown County State Park. We are a short walk down the driveway from Story Inn.
