Full Property Details:
Caragh Lake is in the heart of Kerry's Reeks District - an area of outstanding beauty with the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil, and the majestic Mcgillicuddy Reeks mountain range. This is THE perfect place to experience the beauty of the outdoors with climbing, hill walking, fishing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, cycling and surfing, all on your doorstep.
The Irish term for 'horizon' is bun na spéire, and so it is fitting, then, that the house going by the name of Bun na Spéire, near Killorglin in Co Kerry, is a poetic, magical sort of spot. It is on the shores of Caragh Lake, with private lake frontage and long views of an apparently bottomless sky as it's reflected to infinity in the water.
Bun Na Speire is only 30 minutes from Kerry International Airport, 20 minutes from Killarney's wonderful lakes, an hour from the famous fishing town of Dingle, a mere 10 minutes from the Blue Flag Beach of Rossbeigh and Killorglin.
As you arrive at the gates of Bun Na Speire and drive down the long sweeping driveway, you'll imagine you've arrived in another world. At the foot of the driveway is the Garage Apartment, newly renovated to accommodate extra members of your party. The architecturally striking main home is orientated towards the lake and exudes exclusivity and personality. Whether you relax whilst reading book in full view of the lake, watch the wild goats amble through the landscape, or glide through the lake on your kayak you’ll be transported away from the stresses of daily life.
The Killarney-based architect designed four-bedroom house (Harry Wallace) stretches up over three floors and 3,000 sq ft designed around a striking central atrium. The living room, office, and dining room all with lake views. There are five bedrooms in total all with views over the woodlands.
The home is entered at the ground floor via large entrance door and hall.
There is a guest bathroom to the left and two bedrooms (one of which is en suite) to the right.
Up on the first floor there is a cosy living area with wood-burning stove and outdoor covered balcony to take in the views of the Lake Caragh. Encompassed on the same floor are the fully equipped kitchen and dining area for the hub of activity for you and your guests.
Overlooking the living area is an office and reading nook.
Above this floor is a bedroom with a dome roof made of glass, which is just perfect for an Irish home because it feels like you're outside, while fully covered. There is a walk-in wardrobe and full bathroom, as well.
The master bedroom is on the lower ground floor and has full-length windows overlooking the lake. It has an en-suite and a dressing room.
The Garage Apartment has a kitchen, dining area, living room with a fold-out couch, bathroom, a bedroom, and a balcony from which you can take your morning cup of tea or coffee.
A pathway at the end of the garden leads to the lake shore itself, where you'll find a private dock should you fancy a spot of fishing, an icy bathe or a picnic. Along the pathway is a sauna, as well, for your hot-cold therapy.
There are woodland and parkland as part of the grounds also to enjoy.
