About this property

Comfortable home with breathtaking sea and mountain views

Pairc na Realta is high in a valley away from traffic with superb views of mountains and the Atlantic. Rossbeigh beach (5km of sand with swimming and surfing) is at 2 km. The house was built by the present owners 40 years ago for their own occupation and has been upgraded and remodelled over the years. It has two wings, separated by a central living area. The principal bedroom with four-poster bed and its own bathroom and separate shower room is in one wing. In the other there are three bedrooms a bathroom, separate shower room and a games room with table tennis and library housing part of our varied 500 book collection. The main living area - 45 ft x 20 ft (13.8m x 6.1m) - comprises a state of the art kitchen diner separated from the sitting room by a cosy sunken central stone fireplace, with bench seating set round it and a sun room with dining and sitting areas. There is an adjacent covered area. There is wifi broadband for guests' use. The landscaped garden extends to 3/4 acre (0.3 hectare). There is parking for three cars by the house and for a further three by the front gate. Overall the house is very homely because we spend many weeks a year there ourselves.

Trips from the house: You'll see some of the highlights in the photo gallery.

We'd recommend the following day trips:

1. Driving the Ring of Kerry, which passes right round the Iveragh Peninsula. Kenmare is a delightful town and a good stopping point for lunch.
2. Spending a day in the Killarney National park, maybe taking a jaunting car (horse drawn trap) or hiring cycles locally.
3. Driving round the Dingle Peninsula, in summer months including a boat trip to the Blasket Islands. Dingle is a pretty town where you can stop for lunch.

Ways to spend half a day include:

1. A visit by boat to Skellig Michael climbing 700 steps to the top to see the 6th Century monastery (perfectly preserved) and in summer watching the puffins which nest there until early August.
2. Taking the short car ferry crossing (about 5 minutes) to Valentia Island, which has many attractions including the oldest Tetrapod (amphibian) fossilised footprints in the world, and the site and memorial of the first transatlantic cable.

Walking: The Kerry way runs past the front gate. This is a waymarked walking way running for 215 km round the Iveragh Peninsular. It takes you through glorious scenery, without being too strenuous or difficult. For walkers looking for a greater challenge, the house looks out towards the western end of the Glenbeigh horseshoe, and walking up the incline behind the house you eventually get to the summit of Drung Hill. From there you take in a wonderful Atlantic view and then walk along a ridge at around 2,000 feet for the 25 km hike to end up in the village of Glenbeigh. There are countless other local walks, one of the favourites being to the end of Rossbeigh Strand and back, the circuit taking roughly two hours. The owners' library contains books and other details of walks.

Fishing: Local waters abound with skate, shark (many species, from little frilled sharks to potentially man-eating blues), ling, cod, conger, pollock, monkfish, coalfish, dogfish, mackerel and many more. Even tuna is brought to Kerry waters by the Gulf Stream. Local fishing grounds hold many Irish Sea Fishing Records.
Local skippers take fishermen out for an hour or two, or day-long trips, maybe to the Skelligs or Blaskets.
For shore fishermen Rossbeigh strand, is famous for bass fishing, particularly in early spring. Many places along the coast are suitable for rock fishing. The owners' library contains details of local sea fishing.
For freshwater game fishermen the area abounds with lakes and rivers for salmon and brown trout. The salmon season runs from 9th February to 30th September, and trout from 15th March to 12th October. Caragh lake, set in unparalleled scenery is a 15 minute drive away. Salmon are caught here, as they are on the Upper Caragh River. The river has 9 beats.

Wonderful holiday in a great house. Older property recently painted. Secluded, serene location with magical views of Dingle peninsula. Excellent location which allowed easy access to Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas. Extremely well equipped house (games room, books and kitchen utensils). Ample room for 2 families and great support from owners. Highly recommended for families of all ages.

Field of stars
We spent a truly amazing week staying in this warm and welcoming house in a beautiful part of Kerry. Sea views from several windows, mountains nearby, a sandy beach 2km away, we could not ask for more. The owners have stocked this house with books and games (and table tennis table) so if you get bad weather it is tempting to just stay in and light a fire. But there is so much to do in the local area - we enjoyed horse riding on the beach, walks and the excellent restaurant recommendations. Many thanks to Dymphna, the housekeeper who was able to deal with any queries. A beautiful family home in a great area - we will be back!

A KERRY
My wife and I spent a wonderful fortnight at this scenic location. The house is substantial and perched atop a ridge, affording magnificent views of sea and countryside. The house is well equipped and the kitchen provides a welcoming space in which to spend time. Unfortunately the weather was poor during our stay so we were unable to take advantage of the beautiful sunroom. The open fire was a centre point during our stay and provided excellent warmth. Dympna greeted us on our arrival and made contact during our stay to check that all was OK. Nick, the owner, provided excellent information on the location and was prompt and helpful during all prior communications. We hope to return in better weather to enjoy the sunroom.

A second home
I can only imagine what Pairc Na Realta is like in the sunshine; it must be utter, utter bliss. We had hilariously dreadful weather, with gales screeching down the chimney and hail pounding the windows - and we still loved the place! Family down the road in Cahirsiveen had a gleaming white, stark pad and we quite felt sorry for them. This is a real home, filled with wonderful books and games, and - more than anything - a sense of a home. It was big enough for all 7 of us to spread out and have our own space, yet the open plan kitchen/living/sun room was cosy. Everything was really clean, the kitchen was brilliantly well-stocked, and the views from the terrace (when the sun finally came out! ) were sublime. Kerry is unbelievably beautiful, and anyone staying here will get a sense of peacefulness taking over them almost immediately (and this house is a place '...where peace comes dropping slow' as Yeats would say!). You will love it here. We want to give it 4 and 7 eighth stars (but that option isn't available): the missing eighth would be the tiny moan that the hot water needs putting on so often - and if you forget, you have to wait for your shower! Which, with 5 kids, we are used to anyway, but it would have been great to have had constant hot water. That's the only gripe though. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay here and no-one wanted to leave. I'm not even going to mention the weather (I didn't, did I? The force 8 gales??! The 'see if you can see this hand I'm holding up in front of me, through the torrential rain/mist'?? ) as it didn't matter - we were very, very happy here!

Excellent location for Kerry and Dingle
Danach alles hinauf so weit man will, durch diverse Schafgehege.

EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS
I always look at photographs and reviews with some cynicism these days; people are so clever with cameras. However, I was very excited about our forthcoming stay at Pairc na Realta, having read all the excellent comments, and was not disappointed. The oohs and aahs from my travelling companions on our arrival said it all (and I got lots of praise for being clever enough to find such a lovely home for our week's holiday!). The house is super with a light, modern and well equipped kitchen. It was just great to find sharp knives for once, and lots of very useful miscellaneous herbs and spices (so unusual in a rented property). Lashings of kitchen roll, foil, cling film, hand wash, washing up liquid - all very useful and welcome. The house was spotlessly clean and very well maintained with a lovely outlook from each and every bedroom - the beds very comfortable with lots of spare blankets and hot water bottles if required. The table tennis was great, especially since the weather was rather mixed, to say the least. But the house was really snug (we did light a fire) and it was lovely watching the storms come and go, to be followed by bright sunshine to complement really fabulous views from the living areas. There are plenty of TV channels to choose from, should you find the time to watch! When the sun shone we enjoyed the delightful, clean beach at Rossbeigh and the walks from the house, which are lovely, with the Kerry Way right on the doorstep. We would have liked the use of a barbecue to make the most of the fantastic terrace, but I can't think of anything else which could have improved our stay. Nick and Oonagh were very responsive to all questions prior to and after our visit and ensured we had everything we needed (sorry we did not get to meet you). Dympna was charming. She gave us a very warm welcome and even offered to come back half way through our visit to help with something - thank you Dympna. Should we come back to the area this would be our chosen place to stay, if it is not booked up! I am sure this lovely holiday home is extremely popular. In a nutshell, I highly recommend Pairc na Realta.

Thanks for a wonderful week!
Dear Nick and Oonagh Thanks for a fantastic week in your lovely home. The weather was a bit mixed, but we had anticipated that it might be in early May and that was one of the reasons we wanted to book your house since it looked as though it would be a warm and comfortable place to which to retreat. And so it was - we were very happy sitting in the sun room watching the weather outside, or by the fireplace. Although we would love to come back in warmer weather and enjoy the views from the terrace too - the house must have the best view in Kerry! There didn't seem to be a thing you hadn't thought of to make your guests comfortable and we are already planning a return visit. We found your guide to the area really helpful and took up many of your recommendations, as the house is so well placed as a base for exploring the area. In a week we were only really able to scratch the surface and look forward to seeing more next time we visit. Thanks for making us feel so welcome and at home in your home!

ARTIST’S PARADISE - VIEWS TO DELIGHT THE SENSES!
My husband is a professional artist and the sunroom with nearly 180* views was the perfect room/studio to capture the ever changing moods of the sky, landscape and seas when the weather outside was not hospitable. We have stayed in many “holiday lets” and this is the nicest by far! With comfy furniture in the living spaces (no slippery dark leather sofas and chairs here - real upholstery!) and plenty of good lighting to curl up with a book from their extensive library. The bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds, bedside tables with lamps, lots of closet space and all have big windows with expansive views. The bathrooms are large and airy and nicely fitted out with places to put one’s toiletries and other personal items and all have heated towel racks. The kitchen (I love to cook!) is perfectly laid out with room to prepare meals, a wide range of pot and pans, baking dishes, utensils and electric appliances to choose from. There are more than enough dishes, cutlery and glasses, including wine glasses and a wine rack! Nick and Oonagh are most caring and accommodating, truly lovely people we feel very blessed to have met and stayed in their beautiful Irish home. The people they employ to caretake the property are also exceptionally helpful and nice! There is an excellent store in Glenbeigh (with a gas station) that has a terrific meat market (and an ever so nice young man who is the butcher). This market carries almost anything one might need. The hardware store just out on the highway from the house, Riordan’s, is the place to purchase your eggs - from Clara. Her hen eggs are nearly as large as her duck eggs! She told me she has tried various breeds but the Rhode Island Reds seem to produce best for her and to use the duck eggs in baking as they whip up extra light! We will return to this property as often as possible! Enjoy!! M L and Sheri D Coleman, Sedona, Arizona

A wonderful stay.
Pairc na Realta lived up to its description and more—photos cannot capture to gorgeous views. Nick, Oonagh and Dymphna were very attentive and welcoming, making sure our time at the house was enjoyable. The house is ideally situated in a lovely spot, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, and convenient to hiking, swimming, and touring the Ring of Kerry. Our family (2 parents and 2 young adult children) enjoyed the mix of outdoor activities and relaxing over quiet dinners on the patio and long, long evenings watching the sunset. The house and property are well cared for, clean and comfortable. Any and all questions were promptly answered. We so appreciated all aspects of our stay and hope to return again. Thank you to Nick, Oonagh, Dympna and Chris.

Wonderful vacation home!
The pictures and descriptions of the home were very accurate. The veiws from all rooms in the house are breath taking. The location is quiet and serene. The house was very clean and welcoming. It is very well equiped. The housekeeper met us at the house to be sure we knew where everything was located and how to operated all the necessary equipment. The owners went above and beyond with regard to providing infromation about the house and the places to eat, see and visit around the home; even to the extent of providing emergency contanct information. The golfers enjoyed the challenge of Dooks, we enjoyed eating at the Towers Hotel, the drive around Kerry and Dingle are equally beautiful, and Muckross was gorgeous. I would most certainly recommend this house to others and would love to stay here again, if I have the opportunity to return to Ireland.

Glenbeigh Rental Property Pairc na Realta
This lovely, spacious home is nestled in the hills just west of Glenbeigh. It met or exceeded every expectation. We have rented several private properties in Europe, but this was far and away the best. We made much use of a very well-stocked kitchen. The laundry facilities were easy to use and functioned well. We used the fireplace every night of our stay. The sunroom is very spacious and has a stunning view of the mountains and ocean. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were, like the rest of the home, very clean. The information provided by the owner was very detailed, reasonable, and straightforward. We found this to be a very convenient home base for exploring the Ring of Kerry. It is close to some great links golf and excellent restaurants. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and would gladly stay here again if I were to return to visit this area.

A..PERFECT GET-A-WAY
70th Birthday is a big event and we were lucky enough to celebrate at Pairc Na Realta in Glenbeigh. Our stay exceeded our expectation. The cozy home, the view ,the full moon over the Atlantic, the people. It was obvious that the owners Onough and Nick wanted our stay to be special for us. There were so many nice touches to welcome us. What a perfect location where we took day trips and walks. It was one of our best vacations and we will be back.!!! With aloha, the McGrath's.

A piece of heaven
This is truly a little piece of heaven - a place that provides scenery that you only dream of and a clean, beautifully furnished home with comfortable atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. The owners have covered every possible list to ensure that the guest is in need of nothing other than their own peace and quiet, friendly people, cosy atmosphere and avenues of interest in history, art, entertainment and excellent dining. Its an experience we'll never forget and miss already. If we ever have the pleasure again, we would never go past Pairc na Realta and the kindness of its owners, to organise a stay in this glorious place in a magic little part of Ireland.

Great time in a wonderful house
Nick, Thank you for 2 weeks in your house with that private lovely atmosphere. We stayed there with 4 adults and 4 children and everything did fit to us. It was difficult to get the children away from the house to a trip, because everyone felt so good there. In the evening most time we were sitting around the fire or enjoyed the great view during the sunset. When there was a day with rain, it was not a problem to find comfortable places in the house to read a book. To reach the attractions of the Ring of Kerry it was not far to drive. The best place to start a walk on the way of Kerry is directly in front of the house. Clara is a lovely person and our children lost their shyness and spoke a little bit English to her. She has a nice place to have a breakfast or a coffee added to their store. The contact to you Nick was easy and helpful in every case. We did follow your proposals for trips and it was successful. We found the house by Home Away in the internet. Everything what is promised on that page is correct and even better.

Glenbeigh Retreat
Our group of seven ranged in age from 10 to 80 and this house suited all our needs in every way. There was plenty of room and more importantly with 4 adults and 2 teenage girls ample bathrooms. The location could not be more perfect, the views are stunning, we got many beautiful photographs without much effort. Loved that we could walk down to the corner shop and cafe, everyone we met was very friendly. Took a different day trip every day, never had to travel for more than an hour, highlight for everyone was probably Dingle and the boat trip to see Fungi the dolphin, pretty amazing! We coulld have stayed for a month and still not have seen everything. The walks from the house were great, you could go for miles without meeting any traffic except maybe a tractor. We made the most of the long light evenings and then would come back to watch the sunset with an evening tipple in hand, perfect! We would definitely reccomend this house to anyone, Kerry is a beautiful county and this house is in the perfect location to enjoy it all.

Fantastic week in the dramatic landscape of Kerry
My partner and I spent a very relaxing week in this lovely house with a 'home from home' feel. We stayed there in October when things were fairly quite, but great for walking and it's extremely easy to travel around by car. Even the weather was kind to us! It is a very well appointed house which made is a pleasure to cater for ourselves, there are supermarkets in nearby villages and towns. The landscape is really very beautiful - mountains, lakes and beaches all at your finger tips. The location is ideal for a weeks utter relaxation of simply enjoying the views from the gorgeous sun room or getting out there and taking advantage of the Kerry Way right at the end of the drive.

My impressions of the cottage PAIRC NA REALTA
What a fantastic place to spend a holiday and to fill up your batteries again. The view from the house is spectacular and the house-owners most helpful in any way. The inside of the cottage is warm, friendly and well equipped with all you need to feel comfortable. I returned home with G-R-A-C-E (G for grounded, R for rested, A for aware, C for centered and E for energized.) The latter had surely to do with a refreshing swim in the Atlantic, which is possible at the beach nearby even in September. I was very happy here!

Two wonderful stays!
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful house on two occasions. The first stay was at Christmas time when the weather was crisp and dry and the views were stunning despite the time of year. We really appreciated the open fireplace which was a great focal point and kept the house warm and snug whatever the weather. There was plenty of room for us and our four children ranging from 14 down to 7. They were happy to amuse themselves playing table tennis and exploring the house and garden. Not once did we hear "We are bored" which says a lot about the location. The modern kitchen is state-of-the art and the house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Our second stay was during the month of August and it was great to sit at the outdoor table and admire the beautiful sunsets over a glass of wine. Again idyllic with breath-taking scenery and plenty of walks nearby. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful house again!

Wonderful home, superb location, helpful owners
We rented Pairc Na Realta for a first time trip to Ireland in June 2009, and we could not have asked for a better experience. The house was beautiful, spacious, and clean. It is located in a spectacular mountain setting along the Ring of Kerry overlooking Dingle Bay. The views from every side are amazing. Our family of 7 ranged in age from 6 to 74. The large master bedroom at one end of the house was an ideal spot for the grandparents while the other 3 bedrooms at the opposite end of the house served my husband and I and our three children perfectly. The play room with ping pong table was a huge hit with the kids, and the spacious sunroom was spectacular. It was hard to decide each day whether to take a day trip or to simply relax and enjoy this beautiful home and setting. On our day trips, we explored Valentia Island, the Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, Muckross House and Ross Castle. When we wanted to stay “home” we visited nearby Rossbeigh beach which was absolutely beautiful. The water was a bit cold for the adults, but the kids jumped right in! All 7 of us even enjoyed a horseback ride along the beach. It was the first time my two boys had been on a horse, and it was perfect. Our holiday was wonderful as was this holiday rental, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that perhaps the best part of our experience was our interaction with the owners. From the minute that I made an on-line inquiry, Nick was helpful, informative and efficient. The booking and financial transactions were handled flawlessly, and Nick was instrumental in helping us to plan our many day trips. He even called during our holiday to make sure that everything was well. Also of note is the friendly welcome and advice given by Clara who showed us around the house upon our arrival. She too was willing to help us with any needs and even set up the horseback ride on Rossbeigh Strand when we inquired. I highly recommend this rental. We are already planning our return trip! Thanks so much to Nick and Oonagh for their lovely home and for the ease in which they handled the rental process. This has truly been a positive experience.

We have been married for 48 years and have three children and (so far) five grandchildren. Nick is a UK citizen and still works part time as a lawyer and corporate adviser; Oonagh, from Ireland, retired as an inner-city teacher a few years back. We spend eight months of the year in London and the rest of the year split between Kerry and other parts of Ireland and Europe.

Why they chose this property

We spent our honeymoon in Glenbeigh and fell in love with the area and its people. We bought the land on which the house stands a few years in to our marriage and put up the house quite soon after. Over the years we have improved and extended the original house to make the comfortable and much-loved home we are fortunate to own today. We were a little nervous about letting originally, but have been incredibly fortunate with Homeaway guests, all of whom have shown the greatest respect for our home and its contents over the last five years.

What makes this property unique

Guests are all amazed when they have got up the drive and into the house. They are drawn to the sunroom and almost without exception just gaze at the views and mutter 'incredible'. In all directions there are mountains and sea to take in, with maybe the movement of livestock in the farming landscape. The house is spacious, comfortable, warm and well equipped, being our own home for some weeks during the year. We don't bother to put much away, so guests enjoy the use of music, books and good kitchen equipment.
