Grandpa's Cabin: Rustic authenticity one block from downtown.
Pet Friendly!
First things first: If you are looking for square corners, and sterile luxury, we recommend you look at other options in Lake City. That said, if your idea of the mountains is to percolate coffee, fry some fish on cast iron, and relax dad-style in an old-school easy chair in front of an honest fire, this is the place for you. If you're thinking about Lake City in the winter, we list this on "the other site" from NOV-APR. It's a long story :)
Constructed in 1948, this home is full of memories. We kept the soul—you’ll find imperfect floors and history on the walls—but we have upgraded the actual living experience a good deal. We kept the old school character and added a bit of Scandinavian alpine inspiration. The house comes with robust Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, and a Smart TV as well, in case you need to plug in for a minute or two.
You are blocks from Gold Medal fly fishing on the Lake Fork and minutes from Lake San Cristobal for paddle boarding or casting from the shore. Trailheads in town will get you up to 12,000' before you know it, and you're a short drive to the five 14ers.
Downtown's dining, town park and ice cream(!) is one block away. No driving required after a long day on the trail. Enjoy your meal and a leisurely stroll home, or cook dinner in the vintage kitchen.
Sleeping Arrangements
- Main Bedroom: Queen size bed for two.
- The Viking Bunk Room: Handmade Norwegian bunk beds. Kids young and old are going to want to arm wrestle for these.
- The Loft: A cozy double bed for overflow or private sleeping (hint: it's the coziest spot in the cabin).

We so enjoyed our stay in the is adorable, nostalgic cabin. We loved the old, rustic decor and was so much fun staying here than in a hotel. Having our host, Svetlana across the street was great and she was so helpful and friendly and it was great meeting her.

We arrange an annual ice climbing trip to Lake City every winter and this was our third year. We loved staying at this property. It is right in the middle of town and only a short 15 min walk from the ice park. The place has so much quirky character and we all felt like we were going back in time. Thanks so much for a great stay !
Communicative host and excellent and very unique property in the heart of Lake City and definitely would stay here again. Stayed here with my girlfriend and some friends last minute to go climb Uncompaghre peak.
Property is homey nice yard frount porch. Part of family stayed somewhere else in town but our homey place turned into where everyone wanted to gather. We had a great time and several cookouts. Great host!!!!

We had a great stay here! The description is accurate...It does have some rough edges, but we found it comfy. We arrived to find a fire already stoked up and plenty of firewood for our stay. The wifi worked great and the water was hot. Beyond that, Svetlana and her husband were great to communicate, responsive and very nice. Highly recommended...As long and you read the description and know that it is a bit rustic.
This property was undersold! We expected to rough it here, but we were delighted with the cabin's size, decor, and amenities. I could have sat on the porch swing all day long. We love Lake City, and we hope Grandpa's Fishing Cabin will be available again when we return.

Thank you, Eva!
We will be happy to see you again!
First, understand we were looking for a place to land between high mountain hiking excursions, nothing extravagant or luxurious. For what we required, this was perfect! Quaint, good basic accommodations; clean comfortable beds, quiet location in town with plenty of space! The bathroom sink and tub were a bit of a size challenge, but other than that, we really enjoyed this property and the flexibility and helpfulness of the owner. We'd stay here again if we return to the area!
Has everything you need for a few days stay. Very rustic and roomy with a comfortable bed. The bathroom could use upgrading, the shower was hard to use. In a great spot to walk to downtown. The yard could have been mowed or weedeated. I would bring a fan! Overall an ok place to stay.
The host lives across the street and came over to ensure everything was great, but the replies to my messages were slower than usual and some messages were never replied to. Great cabin with amazing location.
