Roby's Retreat is a beautiful property on Grand Traverse Bay with a private beach, breathtaking views, and multiple spacious living and dining areas with comfortable furnishings both inside and outside. This well-appointed home comfortably accommodates 18-20 guests and is roomy enough for family reunions or large extended family. We welcome children. We discovered the property when our children were young and recognized that it was the perfect beach and setting for kids. We provide 3 full-size cribs and child gates on all interior stairways.
Large windows offer unobstructed views of the bay. Experience not only stunning sunrises over Grand Traverse Bay but also shimmering reflected sunsets from Lake Michigan. The Great Room, Lower-Level Living Room and Screened Porch provide indoor areas for food and conversation. New gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances appointed with small appliances, pots, pans, plates, glasses and cutlery for preparing and serving large feasts. Two tables seat 16-20 total and counter seating for 4. Enjoy the spectacular views from the deck and covered patio. Cook for your crew on your choice of two large grills, one charcoal and one gas.
The Master Bedroom Suite with king sized bed includes a private bath with whirlpool tub. The private Family Suite has 2 bedrooms and a bath. There are nine bedrooms total and four tile baths. Each of the bedrooms has its own unique character and has a cozy corner for reading or contemplation. The Great Room has a queen and a twin sofa bed and the Lower-Level Living Room has a full futon and queen sofa bed. Two bedrooms have cribs.
Roby’s Retreat is tucked into a private wooded setting. Out the back doors, it is a short walk across the lawn to the sandy beach and the water. Two stately maple trees provide some shade over the sandy beach. The water is crystal clear and warmer than Lake Michigan. It very gradually deepens, making it wonderful for floats, tubes and snorkeling Search for Petoskey stones along the textured bay bottom where the gentle waves have polished the coveted smooth stones. The bottom is rocky and sandy, changing each year as the waves bring more or less sand over the winter. We recommend water shoes in case the winter has brought less sand. Enjoy the kayaks for adults and for children. Contemplate the universe at a bonfire by the beach. Incredible views of the Milky Way, shooting stars and, if you are lucky, the Northern Lights are also included at no extra charge. Dock or launch your boat at the small marina conveniently located next door.

We had a reunion with college friends exploring the area and local wineries in Northern Michigan and could not recommend this property enough. It had plenty of space for 16 adults and would be great for families with young children as well. We would love to come back!
Our group has rented homes in Leelanau for 5 falls. The was by far the very best home and property we have rented. It is better than advertised. Living, dining and outdoor space more than accommodated our group of 10. The most equipped kitchen, best beach amenities, kayaks, water shoes, beach towels, beach toys, games, hot tub, and extra bathroom accessories. Great screen porch, beachfront, yard, picnic tables and beach chairs. We were greeted with a very clean home, a welcome basket and helpful notes. We simply loved the place.
This place is great for families. Spacious and well divided. Lots of amenities. The beach area is awesome for all ages. Star gazing is just epic.
Location is great close to towns shops.
Highly recommended.
Overall FANTASTIC. There were a couple of issues, but the host was very helpful and quick to respond. The house is fabulous and in a great area. We’ll definitely book again.

What a great stay!
This house was great. Nice private location. The communal space on the main floor is larger than it appears in the pictures.
We had 6 adult couples for a wine tasting weekend. Easy access to several wineries, leeland, and even the Sands casino.
The beach area is perfect and the firepit is great! We would definitley like to stay again!
Home was stocked with anything you could need, bathroom baskets in all bathrooms with travel size toiletries, and welcomed us with a gift basket. Many wineries and downtown for shopping and restaurants all within a short drive. But if you don’t want to leave, there is so much to do at the house: private backyard beach, kayaks, bonfire, hot tub, fireplace, games, etc. Thank you for a very memorable stay!
Robey's Retreat was by far the most family friendly place we have stayed. There were ski vests, sand toys, beach towels, beach chairs, water shoes, and kayaks. The kitchen was well organized and well stocked. The bedrooms were comfortable. The screened porched was great!
Something for everyone. Beach/ kayaks, picnic tables and bonfire at the beach.
Morning coffee for
8 on upp
We deck/ hot tub after swimming in the Kane/ dinner for 15 at the two dining tables/ after dinner on screened in porch/ watched football games on two levels!
Our large family (20 total) gathered and had the most amazing week! The house was clean, spacious, and provided so many amenities that we wanted for nothing. We created lifelong memories at this picturesque spot and were so grateful to all be together. Thank you!
The house was everything we could have wanted. It was well-equipped with all of the kitchen appliances and utensils we needed. The view was spectacular. We had a group of 10 adults (2 couples) and we each had our own bedroom. We hiked to Lake Michigan from the Densmore Rd. location and drove to Sleeping Bear Dunes. One of our group found Petosky stones at Christmas Cove. All in all, it was a perfect stay.
Our book club decided to spend a weekend together in Northport. From the moment we arrived to the moment we sadly said goodbye to this wonderful escape…we had a great time.
The location is spectacular. The property manager was extremely accommodating and pleasant. The home is above and beyond what was expected. Everyone said it is some thing we would like to do annually because it was full of such special moments. thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home.

A great place! The location, of course, is a great start, but only the start. We slept all 18 of us very comfortably. Everything necessary was supplied.A very comfy and nice place. The screened porch was great and the hot tub a wonderful addition. We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. The fire pit was enjoyed two out of our three nights at your place and we hope our singing wasn't too loud, but we were having fun. The kids loved the paddle boat too.

We had a great time, the weather was perfect and the house had everything we needed, especially the kitchen! They certainly cater to children; the beach toys, kayaks & life jackets. Everyone had a blast with the kayaks; our 3 oldest grandchildren were on them constantly. Everyone had a bed to sleep in and the bathrooms were well stocked. There was plenty of tables for everyone to eat at the same time. The air conditioner happened to quit while we were there but we had fans to use and everyone loved the screened-in porch; we just loved that room with the lake breezes coming through.

We were unhappy that the air conditioner quit for this lovely family during a very hot weekend. We were able to get a repair person to come on a Saturday but he pronounced it beyond repair. We had a new air conditioner and furnace installed before our next guests arrived.
Do you love my property and enjoy all of the amenities. There is everything you need in the house and we truly appreciate it. The only thing we would suggest is that there are batteries for the remote controls better instructions for the TV and more toilet paper in the bathrooms. We stayed downstairs five of us and we ran out of toilet paper.
Robys Resort exceeded our expectations! It has an up north feel with all the needed amenities. We had a group of 17- my husband and I , our 3 children and their spouses, and their children ranging in age from 10 months to 8 years old. The house accommodated us perfectly and PV provides everything you need for indoor use and outdoor fun - beach towels, a huge bin of sand toys, water shoes, life jackets, child and adult kayaks etc...There was plenty of room on the main floor for us to gather together for meals and games and the beach area couldn't have been nicer. The water was shallow for a good way out, sand was perfect for hours of relaxing and play, and the kayaks were a huge hit with everyone! Everyone said it was our best rental yet as a family. We would love to return to continue the memories:)! Thank you Roby family for sharing your special getaway.
The place was absolutely amazing and was a great destination for our friends reunion. 17 adults and 7 children (all under the age of four) and yet the place was spacious and accommodating for all. The water is a bit rockier than expected, however was great to utilize the provided kayaks. The private beach access was incredible including the on-beach fire pit for relaxing after the kiddos were down.
The only real con of our entire stay was the surplus of fruit flies. We read after our arrival that they were more of a nuisance this season. We didn't know that going in and it was impossible to keep them away from the entry doors and bathrooms. So just had to deal with the extra guests for the weekend.
Lovely place overall. Would definitely return.
This house is perfect for large groups. The host had just about everything you could think of, even down to having all light/fan/etc switches clearly labeled! It is spacious and clean, and has lots of seating available and many different sleeping configurations. Loved that there was a second fridge downstairs. Her contract does state that she has a little RV she stays in to oversee the home and that she will be "nearby". I should clarify for you that "nearby" means literally in the driveway. That was a little awkward as she was seen counting cars and watching the group more than once. It was a large group (20) of a wedding party and she knew that beforehand but clearly had some trust issues with what they were doing in her rental.I will say that PV was very kind in allowing us early checkin in order to get some things settled before the rest of the group arrived. But we goofed on the checkout time and she was not quite as understanding on that. Messaged me at 10:20 to ask if the "young people" were aware of the 10:00 checkout. This was a group of 27-29 year olds. And then accused them of not even being the people who had reserved the home when she knocked on the door to tell them to leave. She knew I reserved the home and would not be staying there. The bride & groom who were the hosts, and she met at checkin, were indeed there. Overall I actually do highly recommend this location. Just be aware of a host who will be right there along with you.

I regret that there was a misunderstanding about the ages and numbers of the guests staying with us. I generally stay in my RV for two nights so that I can oversee preparations to ensure that Roby’s Retreat meets the high standards we have set. I enjoy greeting and orienting guests. The RV is next door to Roby’s Retreat and shares the driveway. I strive to have our home exceed our guests’ expectations. I’m sorry that this was not the case for you.
While looking for a rental that would fit all 19 members/3 generations of my husband’s family, we found this spot and it couldn’t have worked better for us. Even with as many people as we had, there always seemed to be plenty of room (including the couple of rainy days we had where we really couldn’t get outside much).
Being right on the water was such a huge draw for us as we had 10 kids with us. They spent tons of time playing in the sand, kayaking, and rock hunting. We made good use of the spacious screened in porch. We could put a show on the downstairs tv where the kids could cool off and the adults could have some quiet upstairs. The hot tub was a huge draw for all of us on the chillier days. And we were within a short distance from a lot of northern Michigan attractions.
The kitchen was also well stocked with everything you need to cook for a big group. Nice sharp knives, large pans, an electric griddle, and a brand new grill - we all enjoy cooking and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of cooking ware. The second refrigerator in the basement was very helpful as we brought enough food with us to cook 20 meals for our large group.
Overall we had a great experience at this spacious and comfortable rental on a beautiful property and hope to be able to make this magical vacation happen again some day!
All 14 women had lots of space to play and rest for our 5 day weekend. Many nice touches like welcome basket, soft throws for cold evenings, spices and incidental s, flexible check /out were much appreciated.
Down side the hot tub only got up ţo 95°, the beach was not good for walking or rock hunting(I suggest Christmas Cove for a close alternative) and the tv had no local programming. A small price to pay for a stay in a perfect lodge.
Very well equipped home both indoors and out
Owner has set up more than basics in kitchen
Lake front had plenty of chairs, water equipment in a very peaceful setting
Owner very attentive to questions / concerns
Highly recommended

About the host
Hosted by P V Roby
My family lives in Ann Arbor Michigan. We have three adult children and 5 grandchildren.
Why they chose this property
We began vacationing in Northern Michigan in the 1980's. It was always a 'shot in the dark' renting cottages sight unseen. Our daughter has a developmental disability and some cottages and beaches were very difficult for her to navigate. When we discovered our property in the early 1990's we knew we had found somewhere we could return to every summer. Our three children could swim in the bay which is shallow for quite a ways. We loved tubing and snorkeling in the crystal clear water. There were plenty of 'critters' for the kids to study and catch. The Leelanau peninsula is absolutely beautiful and there are many activities close by.
In 1999, when the owner of the property who lives next door offered to sell it to us, we couldn't refuse. We purchased the property in 1999, removed the old cottage and built the new house in 2000. We enjoy getting together with our extended families for reunions so we built Roby's Retreat with family reunions in mind.
What makes this property unique
When our children were young, my extended family rented several cottages close together for family reunions. These cottages had small living rooms & porches so there was never a large indoor space for the entire group to share a meal or to gather. We built Roby's Retreat with this problem in mind.
Roby's Retreat provides comfortable living for large groups. The common areas (great room, lower level living room, screened porch, upper deck and covered patio) all provide ample seating and allow guests to spread out. The new kitchen is designed so that several folks can cook together. Two dining tables can accommodate 20 guests.
