About this property

Lakeside Family Home on Cranberry Farm!

On the peaceful back road at the southern end of the Long Beach Peninsula, this home sits right beside Black Lake and a 60 acre cranberry farm. It is a mile north of the river-port city of Ilwaco, and a mile east of the Pacific Ocean. Starting here you can follow the back road for 26 miles along Willapa Bay to the northern tip of the Peninsula at Leadbetter Point.

This is a NON-SMOKING house. The kitchen is bright, and fully-equipped. The dining room table seats up to 10. There are three bedrooms, each with queen bed. One room has a TV. The master bedroom has a private bathroom with step-in shower. A tub/shower is in the bathroom near the other two bedrooms. The living room with cathedral ceiling is spacious and airy, with a small game room at one end opening onto a lanai. The private back yard and patio is ideal for a picnic or BBQ as you sit surrounded by giant spruce trees beside the 33 acre lake.

Walk along the dikes by the cranberry bogs and check out the crop. If you’re quiet, you might see an occasional bear or deer passing through. Go for a short 2-mile walk around the lake, or just walk one-half mile to the public boat launch. Spot an osprey in its nest, a bald eagle soaring overhead, a beaver, a great blue heron, or a momma deer with her newborn fawn. Explore the lake by kayak, canoe or small electric-motorized craft. Come in the summer and enjoy this outdoor oasis or come in the winter and watch the winter storms blow across the lake. Anytime it's a cozy place to curl up with a good book and get away from it all.

About five miles north of the house is the Cranberry Museum on Pioneer Rd. There you can learn about the history of the cranberry industry on the West Coast and shop for many exciting cranberry food items and unique gifts.
The Peninsula's three rural cities boast fine art galleries, shops, restaurants, four museums, pubs, hiking trails, lots of antique stores, and charter fishing. Visit two historic lighthouses at Cape Disappointment State Park, or the wonderful 8.5 mile Discovery Trail, the perfect place for biking or walking. The trail starts at the Port of Ilwaco and follows the path Lewis and Clark walked along the Washington Coast. Go beach combing, horseback riding from the Long Beach approach, or take a walk on the 3/4 mile boardwalk over the dune grass. The area offers many great photo opportunities all within a 5 mile radius of the lake house.

Whether you're hanging out with family or a group of friends, or planning a quiet getaway, this little home on Black Lake is perfect as a headquarters from which to explore. Come have a relaxed, fun time on the coast!

About the host

I live across the street from this house on a cranberry farm with my husband and our two cats. We are the only two residences on the north end of Black Lake. My husband and I have had rental property for many years. We've been farming cranberries for 30 years after careers as educators. We'd love to share my folk's home with you, and help acquaint you with our wonderful area.

Why they chose this property

This house belonged to my folks for 20 years. The property is on our cranberry farm. With a vacation rental, we can still block out times for family and relatives to come visit and stay in the house. We know you'll enjoy the house and the area!

What makes this property unique

The house is cozy and bright. It's fun to sit on the patio and watch the geese and other birds on the lake in the spring and summer. In winter, the wind and rain whips the lake water into waves. It's nice to be inside looking out. There is always some kind of activity on the cranberry farm year around. Watch the sprinklers during spring frost season or irrigating in the summer. Cranberry harvest in October is a particularly picturesque time.
