Come spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. This charming and romantic 2 story cottage has hand hewn post and peg construction dating to the 1890's. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom with ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is a restored icehouse used to store vegetables and dairy with blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The waterfront is a short stroll down our private oyster shell drive and has a pier with a floating dock, table, chairs and fishing gear. This is a perfect spot for watching our beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing, or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 1 hr from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown, and 20 minutes to the Arts and waterman community of Mathews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

What an amazing VRBO retreat! This cottage is loaded with character, charm, and history. We truly enjoyed our visit. We talked to John, the owner, he was so kind and welcoming. Try it out and enjoy your stay as well!
John and Sherri were gracious hosts, and meticulously historically accurate in restoring the cottage. The dock, river, ability to launch our kayaks from the floating dock combined with the well stocked cottage made our stay a true respite from our care giving roles. A true Gem!
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage- it was so quaint and cozy and our dog loved it too! The setting is so lovely and peaceful. We hope to come back again when it's warmer to enjoy the water more fully.
We enjoyed our brief, restful stay at this historic cottage. Located on a secluded estate, it feels like stepping back in time. With a brief walk down to the river dock, we were delighted to observe a pair of ospreys nesting on the nearby platform.
Sherri was very easy to communicate with. John was very personable and welcoming. The cottage was exactly as advertised. Very quiet and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Great location for visiting cute small towns, Gloucester and Matthews. Beach and fishing at Gloucester Point. Yorktown right across the bridge with its beautiful historic homes, shops, restaurants and beach.
This was an awesome place to stay. It was just as described, if possible even better. Great location and scenery. Close to all we wanted to visit. Will definitely be back. Thank you.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here very much. The property was beautiful, and the dock fishing area was really cool. The town was cute and the restaurants we went to were delicious. We recommend staying here.
I have used many air B&Bs and this one is by far my all-time favorite. The cottage was adorable and fully stocked with everything you could have asked for. The property was beautiful and so peaceful. This made a wonderful "home away from home" during my visit with my daughter and best friend. I will defiantly rent this home again!
This is our second time staying and we had a wonderful time. Sherri is a great host and very communicative. The Cottage is very clean and comfortable and has all the amenities one would need or expect. A great location for crabbing or fishing enthusiasts.
This is a lovely historical cottage on a peaceful and large property. Spring was a beautiful time to be there. Great home base for side trips to Yorktown. Highly recommend Olivia’s in the Village in Gloucester.
This cottage was quaint, peaceful, and beautifully appointed. Everything you need for a quiet getaway. We absolutely loved it, and Sherri and John are the best hosts ever – extremely helpful and responsive. We will definitely look to come back!
We did a short stay over a weekend - the weather was bad so we weren't able to do much in the area, but the host answered all our questions and was very pleasant to work with. We enjoyed our stay!
We had an amazing time staying at this property. The place was extremely clean and well-maintained, and the house and grounds are so gorgeous and charming. We would look forward to returning again some day.
Such a well appointed cozy cottage on a beautiful estate. Hosts were super friendly. Great location for checking out that part of Virginia. Hope to come back.
