About this property

Welcome to The Fine Pine, your Upstate Place! A bright and contemporary getaway just 90 minutes from New York City. The house is beautifully located on the hill near multiple famous hiking trails, i.e., Sam’s Point, Gertrud’s Nose. Guests can take an early morning or sunset stroll to Bear Hill Nature Reserve, and 10 minutes further to Cragsmoor’s Stone Church overlooking the mountains. You can also just enjoy a peaceful and secluded time with your family and friends at the property with a fully equipped kitchen, outside grill, expansive deck and fireplace with adirondack chairs surrounded by 4 acres of forest.

Restaurants, shops, and the Minnewaska State Park are all a short under 10-minute drive away.

The house itself is on two levels and is “flipped” around. The main level is the upper level, offering a fully stocked kitchen with built in seating. Adjacent is the large, vaulted living and dining room with floor to ceiling stone fireplace and access to the full wrap around expansive deck with multiple places for dining and lounging. Also on this level is the principal (king) bedroom with an ensuite bathroom with a deep tub and separate spacious shower.

The lower level has another den, used as a bright, private office with large screen television. Patio doors in this room also give access to the 4-acre garden. This floor has a further two bedrooms; one has a queen bed and its own ensuite bathroom with shower, the other has twin beds and uses the hallway bathroom which has a bath / shower combo. On this level is the laundry, fully available for guest use.

Outside is the wooded and private lot, offering an immersive experience in the nature of the area. There is also a lovely fire pit with plenty of seating.

Sam’s Point Preserve, famous for its never-ending views, Lake Maratanza, the Ellenville Fault Ice Caves, and the bustling little town of Ellenville are all nearby and offer great options for exploring.

Nice house in the mountains!

We really enjoyed our stay at this sunny cottage. We traveled to the area to visit a Bible tour in Tuxedo Park, NY. This home was clean with a nice open concept and plenty of space. We are a family of 4 but the house could have easily accommodated 4 adults and 2 children. We appreciated having 3 full bathrooms adjacent to each of the bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped. The minimal decor makes for a cleaner environment and I'm always thankful when beds have zippered pillow and mattress encasements. The masonry fireplace was nice for the cold winter evenings too!

Great spot

House was very clean and comfortable with modern furnishings and amenities. Unbeatable location if you are looking to go hiking. Host friendly and very quick in responding to messages. Would definitely stay here again.

Five inch thick mattress

This property could have been great. The house itself is well designed and very clean. It has a huge deck which provided exercise away from ticks for our small dogs. The problem is with comfort. The queen bed on the lower level had a 5" topper as a "mattress."The whole downstairs smelled damp and musty even with the AC running. The lovely bathrooms were spoiled by the horrible sulphur smell of the water when taking a shower. Furniture and lighting was minimal. There were no reading lights in the living room - just three lights 15 feet up on the high side of the cathedral ceiling. The TV was downstairs in the so-called media room which had one chair and one office chair. It is a mystery why the TV was not in the living room which had places for people to sit. The kitchen was well supplied with everything you possibly need. But, again, the sulphur smell destroyed the ambiance. I have stayed in many rental properties and this is the first time I have posted a negative review. I wrote to the property manager after we checked out outlining my complaints, but received only a form letter thanking me for my stay in response. It is strange that apparently little thought was put into providing the usual comforts. Who doesn't want a place to sit watching TV? Who wants to shower in sulfurous water? And strangest of all, who wants to sleep on a 5" thick mattress? I did not notify the manager of these problems while we were there because none of them could have been fixed quickly.
