The Historic Austin House in Downtown Manteo

Have fun with family, friends, or co-workers at this beautifully restored, stylish, craftsman home in Manteo! Located within the historic district of Manteo, the Austin House is newly remodeled within walking distance to the waterfront, festival park, shopping and eating. Bead-board walls, tile and marble bathrooms, to the handsomely designed trim work...everything has been restored in the likeness of a true 1940s Outer Banks design!
The space
This home adopted a Capuchin Monkey - Travel with Purpose when you stay with us and assist in global efforts to help save this beautiful endangered species!
Guests will have access to the entire two floor home which includes 3 bedrooms, 3 ½ baths, a fully stocked kitchen, living room with TV, laundry room, and wet bar. Relax on one of the 3 decks or enjoy a good book in the reading room. WIFI, satellite TV, and a blue-tooth stereo are available throughout the home. The house is also centrally located with easy access to Roanoke Island Aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, Nags Head Beaches and Cape Hatteras National Seashore entrance. You’ll love this home because of the coziness, the location, and the views. The Historic Austin House is great for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). The second story of the home provides an additional bed/bath/kitchenette!
Other things to note
One bath towel and one wash cloth provided per guest during their stay. The Austin House is made up of two separate and unique spaces: The Historic Austin House (accommodates 6), and Virginia Dare Cottage (accommodates 2). Please inquire with your host if you are interested in renting more then one space!
As our guest you are a member at The Village Beach Club in Nags Head! Opens around Memorial Day until approximately Labor Day.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Leave in a pile in hamper or bathroom. Leave beds alone - do not strip!
Remove all trash from house (kitchen, bathroom, etc) place in dumpster outside of house. Make sure all dishes are clean, dry and put away. 
Turn all lights off. Set AC to to 74 in summer and Heat to 68 in the winter at departure. Lock all doors & windows at your departure. If a key was used please put it back in lockbox.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Detailed house rules will be sent to you via message once your reservation is confirmed. If you have questions prior to booking please ask your host!

Beautiful cottage

We stayed for one night of our fall tour of NC. The house was really quite cozy . The style and decoration of this house did not disappoint. It was cleaned and very well maintained with all the things that we needed for our stay. It is an easy walk to the lighthouse and shops nearby. We enjoyed being able to see some of the historical sites on the island

Beautiful and convenient to everything!

This house was gorgeous and historic! We had a great stay. Walked downtown, drove to the beach, got ice cream from across the street. (The house is on a busy street but the yard is fenced.)We did need w&d use which the listing said was available but was not; however when I spoke with the host and explained why we needed it she was quick to understand and make it available. Just a heads-up to double check on this feature if needed! The host was kind, good at responding, and really seems to care that you feel at home. We really enjoyed staying here!

The Austin House is well maintained from the yard to the interior. We only had access to two bedrooms, so no comment on the one upstairs with decks. It was a little too chilly to take advantage of the pool. The kitchen was well equipped; liked the reading room off kitchen; spacious and nicely decorated living room and bedrooms. It was nice to enjoy "happy hour" on the front gallery. The ONLY drawback: The house is located on the corner by a traffic light. On Friday and Saturday nights it was impossible to get any sleep before 1 a.m. due to the noisy traffic - especially the loud trucks that would blast off when the light changed! One of us resorted to sleeping in the living room and I would read in the library til 1 a.m. when the traffic noise would subside. If you are a light sleeper, this is not the weekend retreat for you. Thanks.
