Great location, downtown Manteo is at your doorstep! We did a lot of exploring of surrounding areas, but it was nice to return to a peaceful street. Took the puppy and he enjoyed the fenced yard and walking trails. We will definitely visit again!
Beautiful home! We loved our stay at the historic Croatan Cottage on Roanoke Island. Dee was so welcoming. We liked knowing she was nearby if anything came up and appreciated her prompt response to a couple of questions we had about our stay. It was fun to learn about the history of the home. We would definitely stay there again!
The house was beautiful and the location was ideal. We could walk to everything in town. Our little puppy enjoyed the fenced in yard. Excellent all around!
We loved our stay at the Croatan Cottage. The house is very well kept. It was clean and comfortable. The location is terrific. The house is right in downtown Manteo. We will be returning.
This delightful cottage, filled with beautiful decor, is right in the heart of downtown Manteo and just steps away from the shops and activities! Dee is excellent at communicating and had everything ready for us upon our arrival, including freshly baked cookies. She even ordered perfect weather! Ha ha. We would definitely stay here again in the future!
This was by far the best experience we have had not only working with The property manager (Dee) but the house and village of Manteo was just incredible. I would recommend this place to anyone and challenge you to find any place nicer. We can’t wait to come back.
The house was unique and beautiful and in the perfect location, which was walking distance to all of downtown Manteo. We loved the intricacies of the home and the fresh baked cookies were a special touch. Thank you!
As a returning guest, we knew that our stay at the Croatan House would be wonderful in all ways. Dee’s attention to the details that make guests feel welcome, are always present and appreciated. This year our visit was planned to coincide with the wonderful Island Bluegrass Festival in Manteo, and our visit was memorable in all ways. Thank you Dee for everything!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very clean and comfortable. Knowing we were coming with two dogs, there was a full bowl of water in the kitchen along with treats for us when we arrived. We really enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. The house had all of the amenities we expected.
This place was amazing! They left homemade cookies and had some unexpected lovely, thoughtful touches! They clearly think about the details and the guests and what they might need. The owner communicated beforehand about getting in and access. It was clean and cute. We all really enjoyed our stay.
We just returned from a stay at this property. We brought our two dogs with us and we all had a terrific time. The house dates back to the 1920's/30's and is beautiful. 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps six comfortably. It has all the amenities you would need plus more. A nice fenced yard was terrific. Truly outstanding experience. It's located a short walking distance to the downtown business area with lots of fun shops. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. The only "complaint" we would have is that the furniture is not the most comfortable. The couch and chairs in the living room are not comfy nor are the two rocking chairs on the front porch. But that is the only complaint I can muster. This is a wonderful place to stay. You will love it.
Positives: This house is really in a great location! Lots of little shops within walking distance. Right next door to a boat ramp, lots of walking trails, within 10 minutes of the oceanfront and other activities.
It is very clean & nicely decorated with special touches you would find in a highly rated hotel, such as fresh flowers, a welcoming plate of cookies, & embroidered towels. Water bowl filled for the dog. The hostess stocked the kitchen with a lot of extras, such as paper products, coffee, creamer & water in the refrigerator, garbage bags, dishwasher detergent etc. Speaking of the kitchen, it was nicely equipped…better than most other VRBO’s I have rented.
Communication is great. The hostess lives nearby & is extremely responsive to any issues.
Downsides? I took off a star on cleanliness mainly because of the yard. The grass was nicely cut, but the bushes were overgrown - and grass trimming was needed. In fairness, I don’t know if weather played a part, as it was so hot. (FYI - A/C worked great!)
If you have an aversion to dragon flies, be warned that they are everywhere - at least in July. They did not bother us.
The kitchen is small (it is a 1920’s house) and so too is the refrigerator. It is fairly tall, just not deep. It met our needs. Also, I had to keep fighting ants on countertops, but again, it was hot and rainy.
Overall, a great stay and we would stay again!
Staying in Manteo was a delight in all ways. The beauty and convenience of the cottage matched the wonderful nature and uniqueness of this historic district .
Our host was very helpful and we are already looking forward to returning. Thank you for everything! Myra & Jim
We had a great time at this cottage that we had stayed at before. Perfect location to downtown.
This cottage is so quaint and historical. Very, very clean and so comfortable. The manager was so friendly and responsive. This was our second time renting this property and we just love it. We especially love the front porch swing and rockers and the proximity to the Manteo waterfront and downtown shops and restaurants!
Beautiful home for a relaxing vacation. Clean, well-stocked kitchen and bath. Beach towels and chairs were appreciated. Very quiet neighborhood and a minute drive all to restaurants, ice cream, boutiques. Would recommend to all! Cookies upon arrival were welcome after a long drive…such a nice touch.
We had a great time at Croatan Cottage in beautiful downtown, Monteo, NC! The house and property are beautiful and very well maintained. Dee is an exceptional hostess for any vacation because she is very responsive & friendly, made our stay at the cottage stress-free, and she provided personal touches throughout our trip (from fresh flowers at the cottage, homemade cookies in the kitchen, a handwritten welcome note, answering our many questions about the area, to dropping off delicious watermelon after a long day at the beach). The location itself is accessible to so many places in the Outer Banks (Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Cape Hatteras, etc.) as well as walkable sites in Monteo! In five days, we visited the Elizabethan Gardens, Jennette's Pier, Bodie Island Lighthouse, the Wright Brothers Memorial and Visitor Center, enjoyed many beaches, daily walks to the Charis Coffee Company and the Monteo Boardwalk, etc. We will definitely return!
The house is absolutely beautiful with special period touches and super spacious. Centrally located to restaurants, shops, marina and drinking establishments. We parked our car for the weekend and walked everywhere. The host was very friendly and attention to detailed. We took our 2 fury babies and they love the fenced it yard and sitting on the porch in the mornings. Friendly town.
The house was just as advertised! It was clean, beautiful and comfortable! Dee was so helpful and kind! We enjoyed our stay in the quaint little town of Manteo and would definitely stay at Croatan Cottage again! The cookies were also delicious!
My family and I enjoyed a week here in July 2022. Even though the house was built in the 1920s, it is updated, comfortable and immaculate. It is steps away from historic downtown Manteo. It’s close to the water. Dee is by far the best host you could ask for. Fresh flowers in every room, warm cookies, and a filled water bowl for our dog greeted us on our check in day. She checked in with us upon arrival to ensure we were all set for the week. Truly, she was the best and we will be back!
The most charming house we have stayed in. Spent a lot of time on the front porch. It is also right next to downtown Manteo, so we walked a lot. We hope to be back next year.
