Easy Breezy—on the Beach! Aug 7-14 now open!

If you like the beach, cooking, reading or vinyl, this is the place. Our classic beach house is between a tidal pond and the most beautiful beach on the island. Recreated from a former surf shop, an open kitchen/living area opens out onto covered porch and decks, with water views all around. Comfortably fits four adults and two kids.

A master bedroom and en suite bath look out to sea. Two cozy bedrooms, one with a full-sized bed and the other with two bunks, share a separate bath. NO TV! Laze in hammocks and rediscover peace and love. Sleep to the sound of the waves.

The best location on the entire island. Five minute walk into town and feet to the beach. Our family had an amazing time. The ocean breeze at night with the double barn doors opened cannot be beat. Will be staying again!

Best Spot on Block!

Total relaxation

We loved our stay at Claudia's, second visit and the cottage gets better and better. If you love to swing in a hammock, have no tv and listen to the ocean, this is the place for you. We will be back again.

The perfect beach getaway!

This house was exactly what I was looking for in a Block Island rental - unique and charming with a beautiful porch, outdoor shower, and stunning views of the ocean just across the street. It's set back from the road and quiet, while being perfectly situated close to town and just steps away from the beach! I'm already dreaming of next summer.

My family and friends have been to Block many times and I have been searching for the perfect place. It’s been found. The fun casual atmosphere of the home relaxed us immeadiatly. The location is perfect.

Grateful for this house❤️

We had the most relaxing, fun and rejuvenating vacation at Claudia’s Surf City. The house is in a great location to walk to restaurants or across the street to swim at the beach. Laying on a hammock or drinking coffee on the porch with an ocean breeze is the best. We loved the records and eclectic nature of the house. The host is immediately responsive and kind. We can’t wait to return.

Wonderful location

We had a most enjoyable week at Claudia's Surf City. The location is ideal: walk to town, walk across street to Crescent Beach. We had beautiful weather and were able to hike through Rodman's Hollow to Snake Hole and also along Clayhead. The house is casual and uniquely funky with the most outrageous views from every window and a porch that wraps around the house & is gateable to keep children and dogs in. Had a marvelous dinner at Winfield's and also at The Surf.Claudia was very helpful and accomodating!

Block Island vacation

Our family stayed at Claudia's Surf City and it was awesome! Claudia was a fantastic host and was always available and communicative to answer questions and offer advice on things to do while on the island. The house is situated directly across from the island's main beach and you can watch the sunrise from the master bedroom every morning. The house is centrally located and you can easily walk to Old Harbor (5-10 minutes) for shopping or groceries or to New Harbor (~15 minutes) to check out the Oar, Paynes donuts or dead eye dicks. The property (and the whole island frankly) is super pet friendly. We loved the house, but understand it's a cottage and is rustic - there is a great library at the top of the stairs and NO TV, which we greatly appreciated. We would highly recommend this property to anyone and I'm sure we'll be back. Many thanks to Claudia for her hospitality and for sharing her amazing home with us!

6th year staying at Claudia's Surf City.

It took us 12 years to find the perfect rental on BI, but wow! was it worth the wait. This was our 18th summer vacation on Block Island and 6th straight year at Claudia's. Love absolutely everything about this Block Island property: location (walk to beach, walk to town and restaurants, walk to salt pond), ocean views and beach cottage charm. Wrap around porch with closing gates are perfect for keeping your tots or pups from heading to the beach without you. Outdoor shower is awesome and doesn't impact the island's fragile septic system. Claudia is a thoughtful property owner who is always ready to help with any issue that may arise. I've never had any problems with HomeAway (VRBO) - easy booking, important reminders, easy payment. Looking forward to next year already.

Amazing!

I (we) LOVED our stay at Claudia's Surf City. This is our second time staying and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The house is adorable and the views are breathtaking. It has something to offer everyone. Truly - heaps of books, a great record collection, hammocks, bocce, insane views, best outdoor shower ever - what more could we want? The wrap around porch was perfect for eating, relaxing, and sorting whatever rocks/shells the kids collected that day. I cannot say enough about the outdoor shower. Loved it so much I showered during a rain storm. The location of the house is close to perfect. Our family (twins-4, daughter-5 and a big super mutt) spent most of our time walking to town and to the beach. Claudia was so great with us and was more than accommodating. Thank you for providing a such a wonderful getaway home!

Amazing!

We were so relaxed and happy at this quintessential beach house located directly across from the beach. There are french doors at the front of the house that we kept open all week long. The breeze from the ocean literally swirls in and around the house, and straight out the back. The house has two hammocks and a porch swing (my fav place to sit in the mornings with coffee and watch the world wake up). There are gates on the porch that when closed, allowed our dogs to be outside with us at all times...huge bonus for us personally! Views from the upstairs bedroom are silly beautiful...keep the curtains open to watch the sunrise from your bed:) The record player and extensive album collection really made our stay special. This house is funky and fun, there are items of interest wherever you look. Super house, location and owner, cant wait to return!

The Absolute, Most-Awesome, Quintessential Beach House!!!

Our 15th consecutive year spending a week on Block Island and we finally got it right! Perfect location, perfect amount of space and absolutely beyond perfect ambiance! Thank you, Claudia, for creating this enchanting place - books, music, hammocks, views, killer kitchen... Couldn't ask for anything more! Oh.. Our two teenaged boys didn't even miss TV... What a blessing! Owner, Claudia, was very helpful with questions prior to our trip and was available throughout the week via email and possible phone (though that's not my thing), in case there were any issues (which there were not). If you are able to stay at Claudia's Surf City, please be sure to check out Andy's Way, Mansion Beach and of course the Salt Pond - kayaks and paddle boards for rent by Paynes Killer Donuts. Dinner at The Beachead - just down Corn Neck Road is a must! I would recommend this property to all my relatives, friends, acquaintances (but I may not, because I don't want to lose my week!!). We just hope to meet Claudia someday, because she must be the coolest, hippest, nicest person ever! Thanks for the great memories! :).

Prime location

Awesome week at Claudia’s Surf City! The location can’t be beat and the Island never disappoints. The beach is across the street, kayaking is off the backyard, town and hiking all within walking distance.

Quintessential beach house

Second stay at this awesome house, and cannot say enough about what a special spot Claudia has created. The relaxed vibe, the very comfy indoor/outdoor hang-out spaces, the location (easy walk to the beach and downtown), the incredible ocean and salt pond views, the outdoor shower, everything. One week isn't enough, so we booked two this time. :-) Thank you Claudia!!

Lots to love, unless you expect Clean.

Claudia's Surf City was as described, in terms of location and fun, funky style to the home. Lots of great details, like the indoor hammock, wrap around porch, record player, amazing outdoor shower. Unfortunately, cleanliness was a major issue. Upon arriving, I immediately contacted the owner regarding the layers of dirt, dust, and mold, dirty socks and a blood stained mattress cover in the room where I was making up the beds for my boys to sleep. I was told to send pics (which I did). The next morning, as I tried to unpack (we arrived late, so there was plenty of time for a cleaning to occur) I was not able to unpack anything without first wiping everything down. Everything, everywhere. Black mold in/on the refrigerator, hair in the toaster, silverfish bugs in all the books, layers of dust and dirt on everything in all rooms. It took me many, many hours to clean just to unpack. I asked for the cleaner to come back as this was not at all how I envisioned "vacation", but was told that my expectations of clean were not a good fit for this house, and I should pack up and leave (alone with my 7 and 9 year old boys, an 11 month old puppy, a hurricane hitting the area and mid-pandemic, this was almost laughable). If there were some attention paid to cleaning the house, it would be an awesome place to call home for a week or so. But for over 12 grand, I would think "clean" is not an outrageous expectation.

Amazing location, gorgeous views!

This house has it all - it is our second year coming to Claudia's and we loved it just as much as last year. The location of the house cannot be beat!! It's tucked away enough to feel private, but close to absolutely everything. The beach across the street, town within 5 minutes, and New Harbor within 15 it is a dream! The house is very well kept, the beds are comfy, and the unique craftsmanship of the house really make it feel like a home. I hope we will make it back for another year next summer!!

Great proximity to beach! Comfortable cottage for family of 7. Rustic accommodations that are perfect for vacation/family time. Close to shops/restaurants so older kids can easily walk/have some independence. Well maintained.

A place to relax and enjoy a simpler time

Claudia’s Surf City offers world weary folks a place to disconnect & rediscover the natural rhythm of life. Enjoy the sunrise from the lovely wrap around porch (or from the comfort of your bed in the master bedroom). While away the day at the beach just across the street or with a good book in the hammock on the porch. Take a jaunt over to West Beach to enjoy the sunset - likely you’ll be the only ones there. Enjoy A simple supper at home, cooked on the cool Chambers stove or walk into the village for dinner from your choice of multiple restaurants. We didn’t eat at the same place twice.... A nightcap on the porch while listening to the sounds of nature (or tunes spun from the record collection) and enjoying the ocean breeze finshes out the day. If you need a break - this is the place to come. Claudia was a lovely host and checked in just enough to let us know she was available for any need that might arise.

I ran a surf shop in the summer, but renting my houses was a better business. We transformed the surf shop adding lavish bathrooms and driftwood stair railings. Claudia's Surf City is now the sine qua non of a classic beach house.

What makes this property unique

Unlike most houses on Block Island, we are on the beach. The house is also walking distance from town, but set back far enough from the road for privacy.
