Place was great. Plenty of room for our family and a unique spot that spans the peninsula so you can float from side to side. Short trip to Sebago State Park or all the fun in Naples.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
The property and location are fantastic, with river access on both sides of the house. Crooked River is a slower and quieter pace than Sebago Lake, which we enjoyed very much. Proximity to Sebago Lake State Park is also a plus. Be aware that the 3rd "bedroom" actually contains a sofabed and washer/dryer, and access to the only full bathroom is quite difficult unless in sofa position.
Crooked Cottage is adorable and rustic. The home was clean, with most of the necessities. i loved having a washer/dryer and a grill. No AC in the upstairs bedrooms but we ended up with cool July weather so it wasn't missed. Easy shopping nearby. The property is great, plenty of space and alot of river frontage. We enjoyed our week in Maine.

Great secluded location, as though you are camping.
- Ample towels, kitchen supplies etc.
- comfortable bedding
The lazy river is probably a 10-15 minute float, which is a good amount of time.

We had such a wonderful time it's hard where to start. We traveled here with our 2 granddaughters and 2 of their friends. They all had a great time tubing and fishing and swimming in the river and in the lake. We brought our bass boat and used the boat ramp at the park to launch it.( free for military btw). The kids played board games and cards every night and made smores by the fire. A very peaceful location for sure. We saw deer here, a very friendly chipmunk, and cool turtles too.We were sad it was time to head back to reality
The cottage was in a nice quiet and secluded area. Unfortunately, we were probably there during the hottest days/nights of the summer and the upstairs had no A/C but there were plenty of fans though. Need to change the bed description for third room. Was expecting an actual bed but it was a pull out sofa.
This property was peaceful and exactly what we were looking for! The inside was described exactly as the listing and so much more. Having 2 bathrooms was convenient for a group of 4 and did I mention the outdoor shower my favorite with plenty of hot water. Plenty of seating indoors and out with a cafe table on a covered porch. If floating on the river isn’t your thing, Sebago Lake State park is just a short drive away(Beautiful beach, bathrooms, picnic tables etc.) This beach allows floats a bonus. We had a couple of minor issues (our fault) but Clayton returned call immediately and problem was solved! Would I recommend this property absolutely

This is a great property! It is private and quiet yet you can be in downtown Naples in a few minutes. Very clean with lots of natural light. Plenty of room inside when it is raining but also lots of space outside when it is nice out…and the river passes on both sides of the property because it is on a bit of a peninsula! Also, some older reviews mentioned issues with high mineral content in the water…the house has a filter now and no issues at all with my sensitive skin!

We enjoyed the country location on the Crooked River. The river was quite low and we did ot try to swim there. We loved the rustic interior and decor. It was a perfect size for our family of 4 adults.

Highly recommend this property! Great place to rent. Few houses in area have AC, so that was a great amenity as our family’s first day was quite warm, The place is clean and well kept. Loved the yard! 2 docks on Crooked River, and fishing was good as well. We plan on coming back soon!

This spot was the perfect location for a quiet, kid free girls weekend. The property is absolutely beautiful and has easy access to the water for some swimming or fishing. The camp itself was cozy but also spacious enough. We had 5 adults and we had plenty of space for activities, plus we all had our own bed! All in all we had an amazing weekend and made great memories that we will never forget.

Great quiet spot to kickback and relax. Perfect for what we were looking for. River access to the lake (about 50 min in the kayak) but the lake is a driving distance away, which is the only drawback having to load up little kids. The beds were a little firm is my only complaint. We had a blast and the kids lived in the river. Thanks for wonderful memories!

We had the most magical time at the crooked river cottage. We dropped our boat in the Sebago Lake park boat launch and drove it down the river to the cottage and left it on the dock. It was about a 20 minute ride down the river and the kids loved it. The next day we took the boat to the sand bar at sebago and to captain jacks for lunch. The cottage was clean, sweet, and so much fun. We can’t wait to plan our next visit!

The house was right on the river, and it was very quiet and peaceful. The kitchen was adequately stocked, and the house was a charming cottage. It is small. The third 'bedroom' has no bed, but a couch in a tiny room. A single bed would have been much better. Not to mention, that the only full bathroom with a shower requires you to go through that room. Also, no A/C upstairs, wish it had A/C in bedrooms. During the day, the wood walls upstairs tend to hold heat in, but after sunset in the summer putting fans in the windows and an industrial fan on high helps with the heat. Cute cottage, family loved it.

Hi Chris,
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Perhaps you knew this, and it's just not clear in your review, but the couch in the third room is a pull-out that reverts to a full size bed. I hope that was clear in the listing, but I'll go back and check to see if I could make that clearer.
I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay!

We had a multi generational family stay at Angie's house, ranging in ages from 1-70. The set up of the house was perfect for all of us and accessible for my mother.
Everyone was comfortable and happy. The lazy river was so fun, relaxing and beautiful.
One thing to note is that the water is heavy on minerals, so we'd recommend bringing jugs of water for cooking and brushing teeth, but that was easy for us to pick up.
We will be back for sure!

Thank you, so much! We are so pleased that you had a wonderful time with us and will be back. You're correct, living on the water does bring the minerals with it. We have a brand new well and water filter system. It is safe for drinking and brushing, but I too bring my drinking water, as I'm picky about my water flavor. :) I'm very thankful, again that you enjoyed your stay, and apologize for any inconvenience about the water. We look forward to having you back!

Poor experience:Couldn’t get door to lockWasher didn’t workOutside shower didn’t workNo a/c upstairs, super hot. Box fans ineffective. Tried to use the pullouts downstairs, but the one in the living room had an unusable mattress on it and the floor underneath was filthy. No railing on part of the stairs to the ‘attic’ bedrooms.‘Docks’ unsafe, One side you have to ‘walk a plank’ literally or walk through mud.

Hi Sarah,
It's unfortunate that your experience changed so drastically after the $40 charge for gluing the bed sheets together resulting in tears when either you or your grandchildren tried to separate them. Prior to that when you checked out, your message was very thankful and that you "had a GREAT time!" I would have been extremely understanding if you had simply mentioned the damage to me with an apology.
I would address each of your items in this review, but it seems a little silly. You lock the door by pushing the big button on the lock. The power button on the washing machine works etc. The upstairs rooms are clearly not in an attic. But, you know those things. The outdoor shower WAS broken however, as a piece had fallen off. The next renter let me know and it was fixed the next day. The other correct comment surrounded the couch in the living room. It is not an advertised bed.. because the mattress is indeed uncomfortable.
Rustic and updated cottage. During our visit the water level for the river was pretty low. It would seem to be quite a challenge to get a boat into one of the lakes via the river. During our six day stay, I saw one motorized boat on the river. If you are looking for relatively easy lake Access this is not the best property. The river was very peaceful and great for kayaking. The location is convenient to restaurants and Sebago/Long Lakes. The bathroom situation is a little odd in the house. There is a half bath upstairs between two bedrooms. This bathroom is literally half of a bathroom. The ceiling slants dramatically from the door to the sink at a 45 angle. Every time I used the bathroom, I felt like I was in an airplane lavatory. The full bathroom on the first floor requires one to enter through a bedroom to access. Overall, a positive experience, but I felt a little misled with the description of the lake access.

Hi Brandon,
Apologies that you were unhappy with the lake access from the river. We are at a nearly unprecedented drought here in Maine right now, and all of our water levels are extremely low. In fact, most of our natural springs are dry. Typically, on the river, you will see many motorized boats, since the river owners have them to get to the lakes. Fortunately, with the local marinas, you can keep your boat there.
Thank you for staying with us, and pray for rain for us all!
Aside from that, I'm thankful you enjoyed your stay.
Thank you so much for offering a peaceful escape hatch to our family! While college touring in Maine, we decided to give ourselves a rest. The “Crooked Cottage” appears like an oasis as you drive through the trees down the dirt road. Once you park, you begin breathing easier and are charmed by the lake on both sides of the home. All modern amenities greet you including air conditioning, a washer and dryer and internet access. However, being here feels like a pitstop in Narnia. The 5 of us all had space, and enjoyed badminton, reading outside and the fire pit. There’s an Umbrella Shopping Center with everything you need 5 minutes down the road. I highly recommend this clean, safe and peace-giving property!

About the host
Hosted by Angie Brown
Although we are experienced renters, this is our first VRBO and we are excited to share our cottage with you and your family. Our kids love it here, and we know you and yours will love it as much as we do. As lifelong campers, hikers and all around out door people, we can't resist sharing our unique getaway with you.
Why they chose this property
Being on the river is magical. It can only be understood once you've seen the stars on the water at night, and had your coffee outside in the morning. The serenity is exceptional.
What makes this property unique
Most lakeside homes are incredibly close to each other, making it difficult to have privacy. Being on the river is a unique experience that is difficult to match, but most importantly to us, is that we feel like we've got a campground all to ourselves. You have to experience it to understand it's magic. This property is on a peninsula, with one side overlooking the water and unbuildable land on the other side. Making you feel entirely alone with the water and stars. The other side of the peninsula looks across the water to homes and camps of our "neighbors," where their camp lights make me feel like I did as a child camping with my grandparents. Their lights just make me smile. You'll understand when you see it.
