This cozy cottage was the perfect weekend get away for my husband and I. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. Located so close to amazing hiking trails. The host was excellent in communication. The property was clean and had all the necessities. We will absolutely be booking this cottage again!
This cabin was exactly what I wanted! The creek was beautiful and fun. It was wonderful to sit on the deck and listen to the falls. It was a perfect get away.
Cozy and clean property! My husband and I came here for a getaway and greatly enjoyed our time. It was quiet and peaceful with great amenities and a beautiful view. The creek was just outside and there were walking trails in the woods around us. There is a larger lodge next to it (on the other side of some trees) but not so close that we were hearing them all the time.We did have some trouble finding the place (Google Maps takes you to entirely the wrong place but Apple Maps works fine) but the host gave us clear instructions for check in. Overall, a lovely little place we would recommend to couples or small families and groups!
We absolutely loved this little cabin. It was so peaceful just enjoying the woods and the sound of the creek. We did get lucky and there was no one in the lodge next door. I don't know if we would have enjoyed it as much with a wedding or large group that close by. We both wished there was a ceiling fan in the bedroom and thought the bath towels were ready for an upgrade. Overall we had a wonderful time.
Awesome place to stay! No TV, no problem....we brought a laptop, but who needs a TV when you have thay much beauty around you! We can't wait to visit again!
Quaint setting. The bed was not that comfortable, starting to roll in the middle, it needs replaced. We did kill 3 large black ants inside the cottage.
If you're looking for an off the grid getaway this is your place. I'm a tv-holic so while it was a bit of a disappointment for 3 days it was also nice to disconnect and reconnect with nature. As a kid I was always fishing, hunting and spending time just exploring the woods around our house and this place brought back memories of walking through creeks looking for crayfish and just being out in nature. It's less than 10 mins from downtown Chimney Rock, and gas, groceries and restaurants are less than 30 mins in Morgantown. We did see 2 adult black bears during daylight hours while driving through Chimney Rock and a mama bear with 3 cubs the next night in almost the same location, not far from where the flowering bridge was before Helene destroyed it. All in all we enjoyed our stay, the wifi worked great and the creek is literally 20' from the back deck of the cottage.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the cabin. The cabin was clean. The location and outside environment were spectacular. We were close to activities that interested us. We would consider a second stay at the property.
Such an amazing stay! We loved the peaceful quiet and privacy. Such lovely views. We can’t wait to come back. The host was very responsive and helpful too!
I absolutely loved it. We loved it so much we extended our stay an extra day. The host was very nice and answered all of our questions. The only thing that would’ve been better is a hot tub. But i highly recommend. We even took a dip in the creek by the waterfront.
We live nearby and wanted a get away that made us feel like we were away from it all. This cozy place was perfect. How it is situated on the creek is amazing! We went for a hike, made a delicious meal then slept with the window open to hear the rushing water. We managed to make calls on our cell phones even on the hike. Couldn't get the wifi to work but it could have been our error. We had books and great scenery so didn't miss being 'connected'. We hope to go back soon!!
Beautiful, clean, and cozy cottage for two nestled in a secluded pocket of forest next to a soothing stream with little waterfalls. Although still recovering from damage done by hurricane Helene, it still displayed God’s power to restore, and it was a blessing to support the people, shops, and parks in that area! Julia, the host, was so friendly and responded quickly when I texted her! She is an awesome host! There were plenty of activities, restaurants, parks, and shops nearby. My sister and I enjoyed our 3 night stay, and we would definitely stay there again!!!
I absolutely loved my stay at the cottage it was so private and peaceful . The property is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of room to roam outdoors. So many things to do and explore in the area. The creek in the back of the cottage is stunning and the sound so soothing. I am hoping to visit again. Wonderful place to stay !

Why they chose this property
We don’t feel we 'own' this land. Rather, we feel more aligned as stewards, here to protect it. We are full of wonder and awe at nature’s intricate beauty. Living here is about discovering mysteries and miracles: the springtime sprouting shoots on the forest floor, the blooming of delicate wildflowers, the soaring trees spreading green leaves in a summer canopy, the magical transformation into vibrant fall colors, and the reappearance of the distant mountain vistas in winter.
We have kept the most special places wild for all to enjoy: the cascading streams, tumbling waterfalls, sheer cliffs, and distant vistas. Residents and visitors can enjoy miles of hiking trails on our land, in the adjoining 600 acres of the Florence Nature Preserve, and down the gorge in Chimney Rock State Park.
If you love the outdoors, this is magical place!
What makes this property unique
We are deep in the heart of the Hickory Nut Gorge, a steep valley carved out of the mountains starting at the continental divide dropping down to Chimney Rock State Park and Lake Lure. From your cottage overlooking two beautiful waterfalls, you can hike up to the top of Little Bearwallow Mountain through 200 acres of natural forest with amazing views. The cottage is part of the Laughing Waters Retreat Center in Hickory Nut Forest. There are three rentals on this property. This sustainable eco-community includes organic gardens and an apple orchard, conserved lands, renewable energy, and solar-green homes. Guests are welcome to hike bird watch, enjoy the gardens, go mountain biking, or just relax on the deck and listen to the sound of the rushing water. Enjoy dining in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, or make your own feast in the cottage kitchen. And we are only 17 miles from all the music, restaurants and culture in Asheville.
Come experience a special place for a peaceful, quiet retreat in these beautiful sacred mountains!
