About this property

The Great Indoors Mountain Retreat

Enjoy a cozy, upscale cabin retreat in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Minutes from everything but away from it all. Located in a gated mountain community just outside of Boone, The Great Indoors Mountain Retreat all the amenities to entertain without leaving the mountain, or gets you one step closer to your outdoor adventure vacation in the mountains. Property features include: • Mountain top view • Main floor bedroom (king bed + smart TV) • Loft open bedroom (queen bed) • Downstairs bedroom (full size bunk bed + futon) • Fully equipped kitchen • Washer/Dryer • Downstairs game room (pool table + shuffleboard table + arcade machine + smart TV) • Hot tub • Charcoal grill • Patio w/fire pit • High-speed internet w/designated work space • Streaming services on all TVs (Netflix and Hulu is on us!) • 2 Acres w/stream on the property • 360 Degree privacy • 32 miles of biking/hiking trails at your disposal within the community If adventure is on the itinerary, Buck Wild Mountain Retreat puts you close to it all. If rest and relaxation is what you seek, then let the cabin do the work! Attraction destinations: • Wilkesboro – 17 Miles • Boone – 21 Miles • West Jefferson – 26 Miles • Blowing Rock – 27 Miles • Banner Elk – 39 Miles Summer activities include hiking, fishing (stocked pond down the road), mountain biking, ATV/off-roading, kayaking, river tubing, paragliding, rock climbing, shopping, and dining Winter attractions include skiing/snowboarding/tubing at nearby resorts such as Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Hawks Nest and Appalachian Ski Resort. Guests will have access to the entire house (excluding two locked owners closets). Buck Mountain is a private, gated community located off of Pumpkin Run Road in Purlear, NC. The roads necessary to get to the cabin are paved all the way up until the final 1/4 mile, which is gravel. They are maintained by the community and are plowed regularly when snow is present. Our private driveway can accommodate at least 6 standard size vehicles. The community offers many hiking and ATV trails, as well as a small fishing pond. Additionally, the beautiful Staghorn Falls is located just 1/2 mile from the cabin. Buck Mountain is centrally located between Boone and Wilkesboro, about a 25-30 minute drive to each. The Cabin is positioned Mountain side, among the trees, with beautiful scenic views from the covered deck. We highly recommend picking up or bringing any food/essentials that you will need for (at least) the first night with you, as it is a bit of a drive to get to a large grocery store or restaurant. The closest store for essentials is Dollar General (8.4 miles away, about 16 minutes), the closest gas station is Wyke's Food Mart (9.9 miles away, about 17 minutes), the closest restaurant is Fast Lane (12 miles away, about 19 minutes), and the closest grocery stores are Lowes Food (15 miles away, about 23 minutes) or Food Lion (16 miles away, about 24 minutes). The cabin is located on top of a mountain so the road is steep. It's paved almost the entire way to the cabin (last 1/4 mile is relatively flat and gravel) and is well maintained year round. AWD is recommended for winter months. The downstairs has driveway access but the rest of the cabin will require the use of stairs. The loft bedroom has a narrow spiral staircase. Cell phone reception on the mountain is sporadic. However, major cell phone provider service is great at the cabin. No smoking Bear in mind that the entire area experiences seasonal bug activity (especially the summer). Despite our regular pest control service, you may encounter moths, stink bugs, ladybugs, etc.

Very nice family escape
Our family of 5 (w 3 kids ages 8-13) really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, the hot tub was one of the best we have used at a rental, the kitchen had what we needed, comfy furniture, plenty of games for the family. The house was as described and made for an easy family getaway. Just plan ahead for food / firewood give remote location.
