We took our family here for a winter getaway and snow play. The cabin was nicely situated near Kyburz, with a short drive to a good sledding spot, Echo Lake, etc. The hosts were very responsive to communication and helpful.
This cabin has it all. It is rustic and charming. I love all of the wood paneling and the special touches that just made the cabin feel like a cabin in the woods should feel like. It has a lovely fireplace, well stocked kitchen, beautiful deck, and it is in close proximity to various snow play areas. We really enjoyed our stay and it was a perfect isolated getaway.
We had fresh snow, sledded, hiked, cooked, plated games, and rested at Sam’s cabin. It is a perfect distance from Lake Tahoe to get away from it all. Thanks for flexibility in these crazy Covid times. Grateful for this vrbo & gracious owner!

Great Cabin near Desolation Wilderness
Spacious and well appointed, dog friendly Cabin on the edge of Desolation Wilderness. It’s right off of a main highway, so very convenient & accessible, but road noise and traffic can be bothersome. A local welcoming cafe is just a few minutes walk away making a perfect spot to enjoy a quick bite or coffee. There are numerous world class hiking options literally surrounding the cabin in the Desolation Wilderness.
Myself and just one other friend stayed in this two bedroom cabin and really enjoyed ourselves. The owner was helpful and gave us a beautiful swim spot. She had to deal with a emergency during our stay, but even with that she was graceful and accommodating. My friend said she would definitely return. We both sort of felt like we were staying with family, and that made us feel very welcome!
We really enjoyed our stay here, its a good location to ski at Sierra-at-Tahoe (20 mins drive) and to visit Lake Tahoe for the day (45 mins drive). The cabin definitely had some quirks - doors that didn't close all the way, could do with some more lights, but no real complaints, especially since the price was very fair. There was some noise from the highway but not bad at all in my opinion - bring some earplugs if you are a very light sleeper. There is a little trail at the end of the street that you can hike up to a small waterfall. I think this property would benefit from a hot tub on the deck :)
Would stay again!

No where near Echo Lake
The furniture needs replacing. Bathroom door can trap you inside. Upstairs bathroom doesn't flush well and runs. Ants. No TV or internet. Priced right.

I hope you enjoyed the deck and open space. We have great internet. The WiFi works fantastic and bummed you didn’t reach out if you didn’t see the code to get WiFi.
Never heard of ants up there but we will check it out for sure as we have a service that comes every month to take care of issues like that. Also we are approximately 15 minutes to Echo Lake. In our welcome packet which we send out right away shows we are in Kyburz.
Hope you have a good summer.

It was a great day, but it rained the whole time. We're there so we didn't get the venture out. The only thing I would suggest is a map in the home showing the different points of interest on a map with a red marker distance, walking distance driving would be helpful.
And more lighting, it was kind of dim trying to cook in the kitchen. It was like mood lighting nice but more lights.
listen to the rain, but would have loved to got out for the ventures. Next time
Overall the cabin is a decent place to stay. The host was quite responsive except for the weekend when she was busy with family emergencies. A few things to point out would be that the heater did take >10 hours to take effect, and the upstairs never adequately heated up. It’s possible it was due to adverse weather. We did visit Tahoe during the weekend of the blizzard. The power had also went out one of the nights. In addition, the firewood provided did not burn due to high moisture content, I would suggest bringing your own firewood. The snow was very nice around the cabin though. We had a good time. Depending on how thick the snow is at the cabin, I also recommend checking chain/road conditions prior to travel.
This was our first experience booking and staying at someone’s home. Had no idea what to expect. This house was older than expected and some things could have been better (sofas, outside grill, bathroom door etc). There was no a/c so it was impossible to cool down the upstairs. Our fault for booking before winter. These things might not matter to younger people but for us it was not comfortable. That being said, we did enjoy many of the trails and lakes in the area. Home was clean and hosts were responsive and that gave it the higher review.
It was a charming property, just with some inconveniences. The views are stunning and the amenities and equipment are plenty. My only gripes: no air conditioning, the main level bathroom door offered much challenge, and the upstairs bathroom flush got a little stuck. Further, there wasn’t anywhere convenient where we could dispose of our trash.
It was a very enjoyable location overall!

We made it work
The area is beautiful, we are RIGHT off the highway so during heavy travel times you got road noise. It didnt bother me but other guests in the group didn't love it. The main bathroom has a pocket door that locked in EVERYONE that closed it more than 50% of the way. At one point I thought we might have to leave my sister behind because we couldn't get it open. We set up a system using the cupboard door in the hallway so no one would come around the corner if it was occupied. The couches on the main level have got to go, they are all broken and at least in need of a serious cleaning. This was where we spent most of our time when we were at the house because the upper level was too hot during the early evening.
We stayed 3 nights and had a great stay! The place was clean and comfy. We really liked that there were a few things stocked like spices and aluminum foil, not sure if from previous guest or if it’s all the time. We liked that they were washing machine and dryer a huge plus. It did get pretty hot but the fans helped a lot. The grill outside is a bit unsafe a lot of fat/oil causing flames and my husband got some hairs burnt off his arm. The carpets/ rugs bit old and dirty but no harm. Lots of board games but missing a classic the kids really wanted to play monopoly. Definitely needs a good cleaning. The out door deck is huge and nice place to have morning coffee. The owners responded quick to our questions which is a big plus. The lake is actually about 45mins away which I did nothing know when I booked my fault I guess but I really didn’t like that. Other than then that the cabin was nice and cozy and clean and we would come back.
I had an AMAZING time at this beautiful cabin! Loved it!!
Staying here was incredible! So comfortable and perfect. My family and I enjoyed being there very much and look forward to returning one day. Thanks for all you did putting this wonderful place together. A slice of heaven!!
Our stay at the cabin was our first family trip in nearly two years, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The check in process was easy-to-use and the cabin was clean. The deck was a standout, though, and we enjoyed eating meals, drinking coffee, and viewing the stars. Sam was a champion host who shared a delightful swimming hole location. In addition, Tahoe is so close that we ended up with two beach days instead of the planned one. The only downside is the hear, but fans help. We hope to stay again!
This property was dirty. Carpets, rugs, and tiles were not vacuumed or mopped. There were spider webs in every corner and rat/rodent poop. Terribly lit indoors- must add indoor light upstairs! During the summer months ceiling or floor fan is definitely needed in the bedrooms and loft area upstairs. This must be added! Some furniture was dented with holes and refrigerator drawer had crack.
The deck was large and beautiful with adequate seating and bbq grill. There were plenty of towels, extra bedding, and pillows. The location was excellent - 20 minutes drive to Echo Lake and 40 minutes drive to S. Lake Tahoe.

Our home is a rustic cabin in the woods with all the modern day amenities creating the perfect balance of outstanding authentic cabin experience. We take pride in providing a well cleaned establishment for all our guests COVID safe. We tried to work with this customer although they had more than registered guests. The cabin now has 3 fans to help cool these warmer than normal summer evenings.

Attic (and half of the beds) unusable when hot.
Due to the heat we weren't able to use most of this house and communication with the host was terrible. We emailed them immediately moments after arriving in the home. The downstairs thermostat read 85 degrees and upstairs was so hot it felt like an actual sauna (not an exaggeration). It was mid-afternoon. No response and hours later it was still 85 downstairs and so hot it didn't even feel safe to let our two kids go upstairs. We called VRBO and spent hours on the phone with them - the homeowners did not answer when VRBO called twice (we were on the line when they made attempts - it's a married couple and neither answered). Still no response via the VRBO site/email from homeowners. VRBO ended up giving us their cell phones (since it doesn't come in the long packet, which is it's own mess - see below) - still no answer. Finally Mr. XXX (Goldman?) called us back.
At first he was defensive, but admittedly my wife was quite upset. He maintained that there was no issue and blamed the pending heat wave. If he was aware of a heat wave, why are there no fans? We are used to not having an AC and the property doesn't advertise AC, but not even 1 fan and no way to cool down the property at all? Ridiculous. We begged to receive a refund for the following two nights (willing to pay the first night since it that point it was almost 10pm when we finally got them on the phone) - they refused. At best they were willing to refund us getting fans (in Tahoe, 45min away - because that's the nearest town/place to do so).
So in the end we paid a lot of money for a big house that we couldn't use most of. There's an old ceiling fan in the living room so that's where we were almost the entire time and that's where our children had to sleep! Not on pullout couches, but regular couches (one even has a midsection for cup holders so was especially awkward for our younger child). The owner told us the house cooled down at night, but it didn't even begin to cool down until maybe 10pm - by then our children were long asleep and it was still too hot for anyone to sleep upstairs.
We kept all shades closed at all daylight times - opened every possible window and/or door to create cross breezes (left windows open overnight, etc.) and still the home was too hot. Beautiful yard and deck, but terrible experience - would never go back in the summer. Also note the checkout instructions that you receive after you book state that you must take all trash or pay $30 per bag.

The weekend was one of the hottest weekends ever on record in CA. 35 year records broken in Lake Tahoe. See link of documentation regarding this heat wave. https://www.sacbee.com/news/weather-news/article252646563.html
