Overall a good property and place to stay. Had a little issue with door codes, but the owners worked with us amazingly to get access to everything. Air vents a parts of the ceiling could use a deeper cleaning, but over all we enjoyed our stay!

Not too happy

Annex house heater on first floor wasn’t working. Outlets kept tripping and we hadn't had nothing plugged. Water smelled like rotten eggs. Called maintenance guy, he came and didn’t fix nothing, just rooled up his eyes

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

We only booked this property for the pool. We learned after booking the property was not privately owned but managed by Bear Camp Cabin Rentals. We arrived to the most deceiving home. My gut dropped when we arrived and saw the pool. I immediately called when we arrived to report the uncleanliness of the pool. Figures, no one could come out until the next day. They come out around 2pm, cleaned the pool, and shocked it, and we couldn’t swim for 24 hours after shocking. The “hike” to the lake front; STEEP up hill which half the family were unable to access. The ladder to the dock completely broke off the rotting dock causing one of my family members to fall into the lake. Areas of the property were completely blocked off with caution tape, and completely grown over with weeds. Also toilet paper and insulation were eaten by mice! When I called the property management company, they would not relocate us, and offered to refund us a whole 50 a day for the pool we were unable to use. They weren’t a bit concerned about the liability that came with the ladder breaking off the dock with someone on it. The property management company was the absolute worst to work with and they should be ashamed of their customer service, and the owners should be appalled that their home looks like this for vacationers. Shame on you.

Dear Danielle, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re truly sorry that your experience did not meet expectations and that you encountered so many issues during your stay. Please know this is not the level of quality or service we aim to provide, and we sincerely regret the disappointment and frustration it caused your family. We apologize for the condition of the pool and the delay in addressing it, as well as the maintenance concerns with the dock and the steep access to the lake. Your comments regarding safety and cleanliness are being taken very seriously, and our team has already escalated these concerns to ensure proper repairs, upkeep, and pest control measures are addressed immediately. We also regret that our resolution at the time did not feel adequate to you. We value your feedback, as it highlights areas where we need to improve both our communication and the guest experience. We hope you will consider giving us the chance to make things right in the future and show you the kind of stay we strive to provide every guest. Please feel free to reach out to our office if you would like to discuss this further. Thank you again for your honest review.

Amenities not what’s advertised

Awesome location, house and cottage are well maintained but there were a few issues. Let me start with saying we have a pretty antisocial group that was planning on staying at the cabin all weekend. After reading reviews of multiple places, we picked Haleywood because it gave us the most options to stay and hang around the cabin all weekend. Other people had mentioned how their families would rather stay at the cabin than go out. This was the complete opposite for our trip. The pool was green and filled with algae. Standing water at all drains, seemingly backed up. Could not hang out in pool or around pool area. They did call a pool company to come out and it was shocked but was told to not get in for 24-48 hours (the duration of our stay). We were not the first guests to have the pool issue but I give Bearcamp Rentals props for addressing this quickly. Some smaller issues - Grill would not heat past 280 degrees (trust me, we tried everything). Had to move our grill out night to the oven and stove. No WiFi in cottage, was told a new modem was added after we left. Random little things like pool table part falling off and a few outlets not working. For just staying in a nice, quiet cabin in the woods this isn’t a bad option. If you’re looking to spend time at the cabin itself and use the amenities. I would look elsewhere. I really hate to rate 3 stars overall but the pictures and amenities did not tell the proper story of this place.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your stay at Haleywood. We’re glad you found the house and cottage well maintained and enjoyed the quiet, wooded setting. We truly appreciate you recognizing our team’s quick response to the pool issue, though we regret it impacted your plans to spend the weekend enjoying the property. We understand how important it is for all the amenities to be fully functional — especially when your goal was to relax and stay in for the entire weekend. We’re sorry the pool, grill, WiFi in the cottage, and other small maintenance issues fell short of expectations. We’ve already addressed the WiFi with a new modem, and the rest of your notes have been shared with our maintenance team for prompt attention. Thank you for pointing out where we can improve and for acknowledging the effort our team made during your stay. We hope you’ll give us another opportunity in the future to provide you with the full experience you were looking forward to.

Do NOT book this property!!! It is terrible!!! I had read the reviews after I booked and was concerned. I contacted Bear Camp Cabin Rentals because they manage this property, I emailed them and expressed my concerns about the pool and internet services. They responded to my email and even sent a picture of the pool that showed the pool was clean and in working order. What a LIE!!!! I had to send pictures via email that showed the pool was green and had algae in it. We couldn’t use it throughout our stay. The pool company came the day we were checking out… a little late for that. All of the lounge chairs by the pool were ripped so those couldn’t be used either. Then there’s puddles that are forming around the pool that appear to look like sinkholes full of water. It’s terrible!!! The outside door handle by the kitchen was broken. This home has not been properly kept up Now for the garbage… If you have more garbage then the small outside garbage bin then you have to take it Bear Camp Cabin Rentals office and dispose of it. Who wants to drive with garbage in their car? What if someone doesn’t have a truck? Now for the “walk” to the dock… If you are not in tip top shape and I mean like if you aren’t running 5k’s then you will struggle walking to and from the lake. This walk to the lake/dock is STEEP and certainly not for the elderly or small children. The pictures are very deceptive. I will NEVER book this place or with this management company ever again! Shame on them all!!!!

We are truly sorry to hear about your experience and the frustrations you encountered during your stay. This is not the standard we strive to uphold for our guests. We regret that the pool and surrounding area were not in proper condition and understand how disappointing that must have been. We also apologize for the maintenance issues you noted and for any inconvenience caused by our trash disposal policy and the steep walk to the dock. Your concerns have been reviewed with our housekeeping, maintenance, and pool service teams so these issues can be properly addressed. While our properties in the mountains and on the water do sometimes present challenges, it is our responsibility to ensure they are well maintained and accurately represented, and we take your feedback very seriously. We value your honesty and will use your comments to make improvements for future guests. While we regret that we did not meet your expectations, we do appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention.
