Charming, mesmerizing view, everything you want and more, art in every corner. If you have lived someplace for 50 plus years, this is it. Wildlife at your doorstep, gurgling brook, little joe otter.
Great little cottage with fantastic views and well stocked. Note that if you plan to spend a lot of time hiking, etc. in Acadia/Bar Harbor it is a hour or more drive. We enjoyed our stay.
Absolutely loved our 2 week stay at Brookhouse!
The view was breathtaking! The sweet little cottage was so cozy with inviting views and sounds of nature. A must for a real coastal Maine experience!
This was our fourth visit to this property. It’s a lovely house with a gorgeous view, close to Schoodic Point. We saw so much wildlife as we looked out a picture window at the changing tides and babbling brook. Not too far from Mount Desert Island. A lovely and quiet setting. We’re looking forward to our reservation for next year!
We’ve stayed here now three times and have loved every minute. The site is so beautiful. The house is wonderful. Schoodic Point is 10 minutes away. We’re looking forward to another stay.
The house was great inside and out. The view was amazing and the location made it easy to get to the places we love to visit. Hated to leave but plan on coming back.
We loved our stay at the Brook house! The views are amazing and the area is absolutely beautiful. The house has everything you need and being dog friendly made it even better. Janet was awesome! Always responsive and helpful when you had a question. We hope to return again in the near future!
Our kids especially loved this cottage - sleeping loft and plenty of rocks to climb! It was an authentic coastal Maine experience. The view of the harbor was lovely and changed all day. Janet was an excellent communicator. Loved getting to see the home’s history through photographs!
This was a return visit to Brookhouse for us, and we continue to be wowed by the incredible view just out the front door. We saw the resident eagle, foxes, and deer during our stay. Janet is a wonderful host and responded quickly when we ran into a small maintenance issue. Highly recommended!
Everything was perfect. We booked a 9 night stay at the last minute. Communication was excellent and timely. The house was exactly what we wanted. The bed and living room furniture were comfortable. The bathroom was well-laid out with good hot water and water pressure. Well furnished kitchen. Tap water tasted great. Everything was spotlessly clean. The view is wonderful. We turned out the lights and watched full moon over the cove through the picture window.
We would happily stay again!
Brookhouse is well-priced, comfortable and nicely outfitted for our family of four, with the bonus of a waterfront yard offering a view that should be in a magazine. It offers easy access to a bunch of harbor towns and is minutes from the less busy section of ANP. It was also perfect to be a short drive or ferry ride to Bar Harbor, but then to return to such a peaceful, private house. Next time we come, we plan to spend more days just sitting in the yard on the waterfront - reading, monitoring the tides, watching the wildlife, exploring the rocks, and listening to the brook water rolling into the cove. Janet is a great communicator and provided us with marked maps with recommended places to visit that were right on! Thanks!
Our second stay here was a repeat of 2023…everything was perfect. Cottage is beautiful and comfortable with everything we needed to have a great stay. The harbor is beautiful and peaceful. Watching the rising and falling tides accompanied by visits from gulls, an eagle and cormorants is a method of attaining temporary peace that can’t be duplicated. The Schoodic peninsula is a quiet alternative to MDI which has become an area overrun by folks seeking solitude which can’t be found there any longer. This one in prospect harbor is a gem worth a long look!!
I cannot say enough good about this property. I don’t even know where to start. The location is literally perfect honestly! We knew when we pulled up and walked around we were in for a treat! This was further confirmed when we walked inside. What a delight! The house is perfect and you can feel the love that has been brook house for many years. The energy was so good. The house is stocked perfectly we didn't want for anything except groceries for the week. This is honestly the best VRBO property we have stayed in! I could go on and on. You will have to see for yourself! We feel blessed to have experienced this little slice of heaven. The host is amazing as well very accommodating and helpful. Thank you Janet for sharing your brook house with us.
This cottage is in a perfect location to enjoy the Schoodic Peninsula and areas nearby - easy access to lots of trails, the town of winter harbor, and areas further east. Many places were closed because we were there after the long October weekend, but we were happy with how quiet things were.
The entire home is well-equipped, the beds are comfortable (a must for our aging bodies), and the host was super easy to communicate with. The living room also has comfortable furniture and the view is gorgeous! It was a great spot to enjoy morning coffee and to just sit and read later in the day. Although we didn't use the outdoor space because of the cold weather, it would be another peaceful and beautiful place to hang out.
On the Schoodic peninsula, we particularly enjoyed the Schoodic Mountain and the Schoodic Head trails for hiking, and Raven's point for the sunset. A little further east, we liked the Petit Manan Wild Life Refuge trails - beautiful woodland and coastal views, and easier hiking than the steeper Schoodic trails. Many of the things we enjoyed most came as recommendations from the friendly locals we met - it is a great place!
I was needing some quiet and slow paced time and I certainly got that at Brook House. I didn’t get in my car for the first four days of my two week stay. I had the gorgeous view of the harbor to watch with the the tides coming and going, each day a different scene. Brook House is as lovely as the views. I was there right after a hurricane. The brook along the side of the cottage was raging for days. Very exciting! One day a bald eagle swooped down and grabbed something from out of the brook, just a few feet from the picture window.
My dog and I went for walks right from the cottage along the roads with few or no cars. Walking to the lighthouse was a favorite. This is a “get away from it all” place. No crowds, no shopping malls, just a few small villages, shops, and the Schoodic Peninsula for rocky shoreline views, hiking, birdwatching, biking, and more.
Thanks Janet, for providing such a comfortable and clean cottage. Everything I needed was right there. Loved my stay at Brook House. I’m already booked for two weeks next year.
The setting of this house is incredible. Staying there with its big picture window looking out on the cove was enchanting. The location was perfect with excellent restaurants within a few miles and extraordinary hiking.
Words could never describe the beauty of this cottage. The setting is stunning, tides rise and fall right in your backyard, there are visits from gulls and an eagle and the sound of the brook will induce a sense of calm and tranquility.
Janet (the owner) was exceptional to work with. She kept us informed prior to the trip and was available during the stay if any issues came us (no issues came up) We like the Schoodic peninsula for its beauty, rugged coastline, crashing waves and relatively easy trails to walk. We are already looking into a stay here next year. Thank you for a wonderful week!
I consider myself so lucky to have landed with this home. The house is cute, decorated as you would expect by the ocean’s edge, warm, stocked, and has excellent energy.
But, the land is the star. From the small stream running along the edge of the property to the magic of watching the tides come in and out every day, the land is the star.
This is a very safe, homey place that shares its magic with its guests.
I cannot wait to return.
If you are looking for a quiet place to relax then this is the place for you. The cottage is cozy and charming and the views are amazing! The locals were all very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of things to see and do in the surrounding areas and Acadia Schoodic area is close by with plenty of beautiful places to hike and explore. We enjoyed our stay and cant wait to go back again.Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation. Steve and Doris Anderson
This was our second visit and we have already reserved a third one. We love this place. It has a tremendous view of the water and is close to the Schoodic part of Acadia National Park. We especially like that it is pet friendly.
