About this property
Authentic Generational Lobster Fishing Home with Light House Views
Step into authentic Downeast Maine living at this charming Cape-style waterfront home, once owned by Walter, a lifelong commercial lobster fisherman. Today, his son continues the tradition of welcoming guests to experience the beauty, culture, and rhythm of a working fishing harbor.
Set directly on the water at Petit Manan Point, the home offers sweeping panoramic views of the open bay, distant islands, and an active lobster fleet. From the deck, watch colorful buoys drift across sparkling waters as boats travel in and out of the harbor throughout the day. The setting captures the essence of coastal Maine—evergreen-lined shores, open ocean, and a harbor that remains very much alive.
Guests can relax to the natural sounds of the shoreline, seabirds, and working boats. In the evening, the distant flash of Petit Manan Lighthouse adds a memorable touch to the horizon.
The home features three bedrooms (two upstairs and one downstairs) and two full bathrooms, with one on each level. Inside, you’ll find ash wood floors throughout and a full kitchen designed for comfort and function, complete with custom ash cabinetry, granite countertops, and high-end appliances. A spacious porch provides the perfect place to take in the ocean air and experience the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of the coast.
This is more than a place to stay—it’s a front-row seat to a way of life that has been part of this harbor for generations. The surrounding waterfront continues to reflect the traditions, stories, and daily rhythms of a working fishing community.
Located just outside the front door are scenic coastal lands, including Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge and Pigeon Hill Preserve, offering opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the rugged shoreline. The nearby All Souls by the Sea Chapel is open to visitors during the summer months.
A short 15-minute drive brings you to Milbridge, a historic shipbuilding town with local shops, restaurants, a full grocery store, pharmacy, library, and a museum highlighting the area’s maritime heritage.
The home includes Wi-Fi and essential modern conveniences while maintaining its connection to the surrounding landscape and traditions. It is well suited for families, couples, and anyone seeking a quiet, authentic coastal Maine experience.

About the host
Hosted by Daniel Strout
Walter was a third-generation fisherman, born and raised in this very community. His life was deeply connected to the water and the traditions passed down through his family. He began fishing alongside his father at just four years old, learning the craft that would shape his entire life.
Walter was known for sharing stories of the area—both personal and historical—often told while preparing for another day on the water doing what he loved most: making a living from the sea.
Walter passed away in August 2017 after a brief illness. Today, his legacy continues through his family. His middle son operates the working fishing wharf just across from the home, while his youngest son carries on the tradition of welcoming guests and sharing this special place with those who come to experience the beauty and heritage of Downeast Maine.
Why they chose this property
This property has been in the family for generations, passed down from Walter’s grandfather to his father, and then to Walter himself and now to Walter's sons. With its strong, time-tested wharf and decades of fishing gear and boats, it remains a true working waterfront rooted in tradition.
Today, that legacy continues through Walter’s son, Brian, who owns and operates the wharf. Guests will often see his lobster boat, the Sunshine Chalet, coming and going throughout the day, offering a firsthand glimpse into the daily rhythm of life on the water.
What makes this property unique
With the scent of the sea, sweeping ocean views, and generations of livelihood tied to this harbor, Walter could not imagine calling anywhere else home. He often said, “Paradise exists, and I’ve found it right here in my quiet little village.”
That feeling is what makes this property so special. Guests have the rare opportunity to experience the same sense of place—where natural beauty, tradition, and a working waterfront come together in a way that is both peaceful and deeply authentic.
