Golden Gate Bridge View from Light, Bright Oakland Hills/Montclair Home
Our sunny, secluded Oakland Hills home is perched high in the hills of Piedmont Pines with a front deck providing wonderful views of Marin County, San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are outside tables and chairs for outside dining, plus a gas barbecue. We also have a private back patio with a ping pong table.
The front deck and entry of the house is reached by 18 stairs with two landings. The house has hardwood floors, a dining room (seats 6) and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of San Francisco, Marin, Golden Gate Bridge, Lake Merritt, and Alcatraz. There is also a modern, open-plan kitchen with granite countertops.
The two main floor bedrooms each have queen-sized beds, the child's room off of the master bedroom has a twin bed in the shape of a race car, and the downstairs bedroom has both a queen-sized bed and a twin bed. The main bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The master bedroom with the adjoining child's room both have French doors opening to the back patio. The master bedroom has its own bathroom with stall shower. The house is approximately 1500 square feet.
There are many books and original paintings throughout the house.
You can reach San Francisco in 20-30 minutes by car or public transportation, and the village of Montclair, with its cafes, shops and a Sunday farmers' market, is only a 2-minute drive or a 20-minute (hilly) walk from our house. Berkeley, with its great university and wonderful restaurants, is only a 10-minute drive. Our house is very popular for hosting families of UC Berkeley students for events such as graduation.
This neighborhood of Oakland is called Montclair. It's in the hills, and although close to city life in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco, it's quite green and natural here, with many trees, deer, birds (and bird and hummingbird feeders), and hiking trails. We are only a five minute drive up the hill to the vast redwood parks including Redwood Regional Park, Joaquin Miller Park, and Sibly Park. We are well-stocked with brochures detailing the various nearby Oakland and Berkeley parks.

It took me a little while to get used to being in the house that they live in. They moved out for our stay. Once I did I found it comfortable. Lots of books and kid friendly.Very friendly and responsive host.
We very much enjoyed our stay in Montclair. The view was incredible and the home was well appointed. Our 2 and 5 year old appreciated the doll house and other small toys. The neighborhood was safe and in a wonderful location close to amenities and freeway access. We would love to stay again for return visits!

Thanks so much! It was great having you as return guests!
Our family of five had an amazing week in the area and were so impressed with this house. It was incredibly well appointed with everything we needed during our stay. We cooked several meals and enjoyed the outdoor areas. The neighborhood was very quiet, and we enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. The hosts were able to provide some gluten free dining recommendations, and both the bakery and Italian restaurant we tried were stellar. After our days of adventuring, this house truly felt like a home to return to. We’d come back in a heartbeat.
Spent a week and rental was as advertised and then some. Great view and plenty of space for our family of 5. Owners where great in communicating all the way through too. Would recommend.
Our family of four (kids ages 5 and 8) really enjoyed our stay in this neat house in the Oakland hills. We loved the view of the bay and loved that the home had everything we needed, from kitchenware to kids toys and more. The hosts were super easy to communicate with and very generous with helping to make our stay easy and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Exceeded expectations. House was clean and comfortable exactly what we were looking for. The views were incredible. Neighbor was safe and close to everything. Hot tub was a plus! Would recommend to anyone going to the area.
A comfy house with windows across the front of the house giving you a panoramic view of San Francisco Bay. A five-minute drive to all Montclair Village has to offer, and very close to the East Bay’s best parks and trails. The private back deck is a retreat.

We’re so happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed staying at our Oakland Hills house, Dipak. We would love to have you as guests again if your travels take you to the Bay Area in the future.
The house has a spectacular view of the bay and we spent many happy mornings and evenings on the deck. It is well stocked with anything you might need. They have a lot of fans for the hot days and evenings in August and the air conditioning did cool down things in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our time!!

Thank you for being such good guests. We’d be glad to host you and your family for any future visits to Oakland.
The view from this house is spectacular!
The owners were a pleasure to deal with- they even “gifted” us their 2 newspaper subscriptions for our 6 week stay. There is an extensive book collection along with lots of lovely paintings by the artist owner. The kitchen is very well stocked.
This is a great house if you love nature, reading, art, and cooking!

We’re so happy you enjoyed your six-week stay! We were happy having you and your husband stay at our house. Thank you for being such great guests!
My husband and I stayed in this wonderful home from home on the last leg of our Honeymoon. The home had everything we needed and it was so refreshing to find a holiday home that had herbs and spices and all the little things you might need to cook with. The view across the bay was stunning we were far enough to have spectacular views but also close enough to be able to drive and be parked up at Pier 39 in about 25 minutes ( traffic depending!). We spent many of our evenings on the front deck admiring the view and watching the wildlife. We also had a couple of evenings in the hot tub and using the ping pong table! We had a fabulous time and were so comfortable. Thank you for your quick communication and allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.

Warm, inviting home with stunning views and even greater hosts!
This home was absolutely wonderful! My family came to visit my husband and I for the holidays and we all stayed in this house for the week. Everything was just like the photos..especially that view!! On top of that, the kitchen was fully stocked with necessities that were meant for us to use. I loved perusing the bookshelves and paintings throughout the entire place - there's so many to enjoy!
From even before checking in, Janet and Kees were so responsive to messages and so kindly even set up a mini crib for our baby. And during our stay they were very easy to reach in case we didn't know how to use something or had any other questions. Their house was the perfect place for my family to spend our first Christmas with our daughter. It truly felt like home away from home :).

About the host
Hosted by Janet and Kees den Breejen
We are Kees and Janet. We've lived in the beautiful Bay Area for over 30 years. We've been dividing our time between our Montclair home and our cabin in Yuba County, California, for the past 15 years. We have two grown sons, one living in New York and one nearby in Oakland, and a 12 year old granddaughter and 9 year old grandson. Kees is Dutch, born in Delft in the Netherlands, who moved to Canada as a child and then to California. He is fluent in Dutch. He is retired from the San Francisco Chronicle, having worked as a graphic artist, and is now a painter. Janet is a 5th generation California native. She is retired, having worked for many years as an index editor for a legal publishing company in San Francisco. Both Kees and Janet love to travel. They also enjoy having the grandchildren stay overnight once a week.
Why they chose this property
The benefits of this property include the view of San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate and Marin. A secluded setting but is centrally located, 5 minutes from Highway 13 to Berkeley (10 min), San Francisco (30 min) and Downtown Oakland (20 min), Marin County (40 min) Pacific Ocean at SF (1 hr). We are close to many miles of hiking in regional parks nearby. Swimming at nearby Lake Temescal. Near many charming shopping districts with excellent restaurants. Near the University of California at Berkeley (20 min).
What makes this property unique
We love the country atmosphere while being in a city. We like the aroma of the eucalyptus trees and the fog clearing from the valleys. We often encounter deer with fawns, Steller jays and red-tailed hawks and sometimes wild turkeys.
