What a view! I still can’t get over the beautiful location of this property and the stunning view from the wrap-around porch. We spent many hours just relaxing out there and taking it all in. Very comfortable stay for our group of 11 with 3 full bathrooms and 2 large master suites plus smaller bedrooms. Very clean, huge kitchen, lots of table/seating space. Short drive to Cripple Creek and Victor which were neat historic towns, plus a lovely reservoir/rec area just down the hill. (Just be mindful of the super high altitude and take it easy if you’re not used to it!!) Owner very kind and responsive. Very easy check-out procedures too. Loved everything about this stay and property!

Everything about the cabin was great. The only problem that our group had was the 6 mile dirt road going into the cabin and the driveway going up to the cabin after you pass through the gates. The dirt road was all washboard and we felt every bump on our motorcycles. The driveway had a lot of washouts in it and three people in the group to put their bikes over. Total of 6 times. Everyone except for the trikes parked their bikes down by the gate and had to walk up the driveway.

Perfect

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin. We are a family of ten (3 daughters, 2 sons in law, 3 grandsons, plus my wife and I), and the cabin size was perfect. It had everything we needed. We sat on the wraparound porch every day watching the hummingbirds and admiring the beauty of the scenery below. A short drive to the reservoir allowed us to fish or hike the trail along the creek. We are all in agreement that this was the most relaxing vacation taken as a family. I highly recommend this cabin. We are already looking for dates for next year!

My favorite Colorado experience.since I was a child!

Views of Pikes Peak (you can see lights at night) and Cheyenne Mountain. A fantastic home with huge kitchen and massive main level covered deck which probably has more square feet than my house. Excellent fishing at the reservoir just down the road. We also saw a Bald Eagle, Coopers Hawk, Rufous Hummingbird and Stellars Jay. I also saw Big Horn Sheep on my way out. Perfect, Beautiful and Relaxing!..

Amazing view

Our stay at this location started slightly rocky due to our lack of knowledge for the rough roads accessing the property. This was minor and only negative to be found. The property manager was quick to answer all questions and made sure all needs were met. We had issue with washing machine in which the property manager quickly made sure to have the issue looked into and repaired. The views are absolutely stunning and house is very spacious meeting our large parties needs very well. Would highly recommend this property to anyone interested. It is sometimes rough dealing with management of the VRBO properties but I can assure you that was not the case for this listing which made our stay extremely comfortable and left us feeling reassured at all times.

Excellent place for a secluded family getaway

We loved our stay at Aspen Lake House! We just had a discussion and can't think of anything significant we would change about the place. The place was meticulously clean and very well equipped. This isn't a "cabin" by my standards, it's a very nicely appointed home. It has way more room than our family of 4 needed. In fact there's easily room for twice our number or more. The wrap-around porch is an amazing place to have coffee and take in the stunning views. Be prepared for cool mornings. Show up with everything you need for meals as the closest source for groceries is Cripple Creek (with a limited supply), or the Walmart an hour away in Woodland Park. While Victor is a wonderful old mining town, don't expect much. If you're into a lot of structured activities, this place may not suit you. If you like enjoying nature on your own terms, it's perfect. It is also important to know that getting there requires 5-6 miles of well-maintained gravel road, then a few hundred feet of fairly steep private drive to the house. It's nowhere near "Jeep-only" terrain, but it helps if you've driven mountain roads a bit. Also the gate lock can be deceiving, look for the "line" to align the supplied code. If you're up for the "remoteness", I would certainly recommend this place. Enjoy, and safe travels!

Family Vacation

The views and serenity of the Aspen Lakehouse is it's best feature. Our family of 9 enjoyed the wrap around deck, watching the wildlife, fishing at the Resevoir, and the peace and quiet. Check-in was a bit of a struggle as the code for the lockbox was only available on the VRBO website and there is zero cell service, so recommend saving that info ahead of time. The house is a good 20 min drive to the closest town/store, so when there was no ice or trays upon arrival, it was a bit inconvenient to drive and get some. We had some issues with not enough toilet paper, bath towels, paper towels, no cleaning supplies for 9 people for 5 nights, so we had to purchase those items. We had some issues like lights not working and the washing machine draining out on the floor. Our biggest issue was the house was not very clean. Cobwebs throughout, dusty decor/shelves/floral, stained carpet, dirty bedding (just the decorative bedding cover/pillow cases), kitchen towels/potholders stained/dirty, used items in bathroom drawers, trash under beds and behind bedside tables, dirty/fingerprints on walls/doors/light switches, hair in sinks/drawers. As vacation rental owners ourself we were not happy. We reached out to Carolyn & Walter and they were very nice about our concerns, had us send pictures, expressed that they live out of state and were not aware of these issues and would have it corrected for the next guests. Still had a great time and made lots of amazing memories!

Aspen Lakehouse was wonderful for my family get-together. The setting was beautiful with the nearby trout-filled lake and the aspen trees at their peak color while we were there. The cabin was spacious and well-equipped. Lots to do in the area including fishing, hiking, exploring the back roads, and visits to Victor and Cripple Creek. The host was very responsive. We had one minor maintenance issue while we were there, and it was taken care of very quickly after contacting the host. Aspen Lakehouse is highly recommended, and we look forward to staying there again in the future.

Unplugged getaway with plenty to do!

This was our first blended family vacation and it couldn’t have been spent at a more perfect location. The pictures do not do the property justice! The panoramic Mountain, reservoir, and wooded views were nothing short of incredible. The property had nearby amenities that kept us entertained and helped us to bond. Thank you for letting us share your tiny piece of treasure with our family!

You cannot imagine how beautiful the views are!

Photos simply cannot capture the beauty of the property! If you are looking for secluded, peaceful surroundings, & a quiet place to relax, you will not be disappointed! The Aspen Lakehouse was even better than our family imagined! The house itself was comfy & well appointed. We prepared & ate every meal there, enjoying the views. We saw deer & hummingbirds! (we refilled the feeder every day)! Hostess provided information at the house regarding what to see and do in the area, where to go hiking, etc. A few items to note (we had no issues, just sharing info!): 1. There is no cell service; but WiFi works fine. 2. Woodland Park provides convenient options to pick up essentials such as fresh Papa Murphy’s pizza to bake at the house, or groceries (if you plan to prepare meals at the house). 3. The house isn’t near restaurants or tourist attractions, but those things were not a priority for us! 4. The driveway is steep, but our all-wheel drive vehicle made it fine. Our 2 daughters (professional musicians) filmed music videos on the property; by the granite wall, on the boulders, on the covered deck balcony, the aspen grove, and the grassy wildflower meadow! If you would like to get a better feel for the surroundings & see the views at The Aspen Lakehouse, search for “The Finestrung Duo”, on YouTube, Facebook, & Instagram & watch their music videos (the videos recorded on the property are tagged as “Colorado”)! We would be thrilled to stay at The Aspen Lake House again!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this place when we saw the beautiful house tucked away in a valley with over 40 acres of aspen, blue spruce and open meadows. We enjoy the majestic views of the mountains, the serenity of overlooking Skaguay Reservoir and hiking in one of the prettiest valleys along Beaver Creek. The many custom features of the house were another attraction from the gourmet kitchen, to the spacious living areas, the huge windows, and wide wrap around deck for relaxing outdoors.

What makes this property unique

The large wrap around deck affords expansive views of the mountains and lake. At 9,100’ elevation the house is wonderfully comfortable with gentle breezes and low humidity. The house is situated among the aspens with no other houses in view from the front deck which gives the place of sense of calm and serene seclusion. In the mood for a peaceful and quiet place to stay? Then this is the setting. Within walking distance of the house is Skaguay Reservoir and Beaver Creek, which are excellent for fly fishing for trout. There is canoeing and boating on Skaguay Reservoir and hiking, backpacking and camping in one of the prettiest valleys along Beaver Creek. Nearby are lots of activities from gold mine tours, hiking and mountain biking at Mueller State Park (over 5,000 acres of parkland) and horseback riding, exploring scenic byways and historic gold mine towns, white water rafting the Arkansas River, antiquing, shopping and more. The property is only about an hour and fifteen minutes southwest of Colorado Springs.
