Cabin #1 is one of the top picks for those looking to fish or play and spread out in the spacious back yard on the large deck overlooking the river! Sit out on the deck and watch the fish swim and elk walk by! This unit has 3 beds and can sleep up to 6 comfortably. New gas log fireplace and HVAC system along with wifi and YoutubeTV to keep you and your party entertained.
*Up to 2 pets are welcome at this cabin for a fee of $35.
Each of our log cabins has a full front porch and deck with seating just a few feet away from the Oconaluftee River, which offers some of the best trout fishing around. This river is stocked with brown and rainbow trout. Fly fishermen can enjoy the “catch and release” waters with trophy sized fish just minutes away. The cabins line the Oconaluftee River with a view across the river that is forest land with no development. The cabins are separated by full deck areas with privacy fencing in between. This cabin features a small yard with a rock wall to fish from or enjoy the view of the slow moving river. You can see the fish below in these clear waters! A small charcoal grill is located in front of the cabin. This river also provides a great place for rafting, tubing, and swimming. This cabin features an open living/kitchen/dining space downstairs along with a primary king bedroom and ensuite bathroom with a tub/shower. Upstairs, there are 2 separate bedrooms; an open queen bedroom and a full bedroom with a door. These rooms feature ceiling fans and utilize a shared bathroom with a tub/shower between them.
We have 6 total hand-built log cabins that are each stocked with kitchen supplies, new couches and bedding, and basic shower/restroom goods. High-speed internet and streaming televisions in the living room as well as main bedroom make sure you don't miss a beat. New HVAC systems and gas fireplace create comfort for all, with automatic settings so you don't have to worry about how to set up. The back of the cabins are just off of Big Cove Road, which has low to moderate traffic and sidewalks into town, food and shopping. We believe you'll find the setting peaceful and enjoyable. Easy to find and perfect location!

Last family vacation before son goes off to basic for military!
We had a great time perfect location to walk to shops, ice cream, fudge & tubing. Enjoyed swimming & fishing in the river in the backyard. The cabin was lovely & enough space for our family & dog. Will definitely book & stay again. Will let all our friends know about this place. The host was very nice & responsive if you had any questions. Thanks Cheri for allowing us to stay at your amazing cabins.
Was a very quant place. Had enough room, was very clean and in a great location. Host was very nice and I have already recommended to friends. Will most definitely try to rebook again for my next mountain trip!
We enjoyed the cabin & had everything we needed. It is NOT sound proof so be ready to hear every foot step taken. We did have a bit of an issue with ants as well. I thought we would also be able to access the water a bit easier too but the bank is EXTREMELY steep & treacherous. That being said, being on the water was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! We enjoyed watching all the tubers enjoying themselves.
Toaster did not work. People in other cabins kept coming in our area to fly fish from bank. They even unlatched the gate that had signage saying area for Cabin one only. So, they clearly knew. Blocked view of tubers and kayakers coming down river.
Everything about this property was great! And the property manager was awesome from the start of the booking! We told so many friends about this place and definitely would love to book several cabins in the near future
It was great to stay in Cherokee like I did when I was kid. I got to take my kids to the historical sites, the falls, and the park. We aren't very needy so we didn't require any assistance but the host was very nice in her messages and the cabin was great; very clean, had all the comforta of home, and very comfortable beds.
Excellent hosts. Very clean and well stocked cabin. Plenty of room for myself and two teens and the dog. Easy walk to village. Short drive to Main Street stores. Extremely close to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We were there over Thanksgiving and the cabin warmed up quickly. Only negative is the road noise in the evenings. You can’t really hear it from the back deck.
Stayed in Cabin #1. Lovely cozy 3br/2ba. It was clean, well stocked and has a modern responsive climate control system. Within walking distance of several great restaurants, and of course the Great Smokey Mountains Nat Park. The Chrystal clear river in the backyard was nice and peaceful. The owner, Cheri, was very friendly and promptly responded to any questions I had. I’ve made several trips to Cherokee, but this was the first time staying at Bluebird Cabins, and it will be my go-to place from now on.
This property was exactly as described. Property manager was very helpful and prompt when replying to my questions. Location was perfect for us. Close to the national park, Cherokee Indian village and tubing access. Was right beside the oconoluftee river which was so peaceful. Our 10 and 12 year old granddaughters didn't want to leave!
My recent stay at this charming cabin with my young nephews was nothing short of amazing! As a party of four, we found the space to be absolutely perfect for our needs. The nephews were thrilled with their upstairs loft and private room—it felt like their own little adventure hideout. Meanwhile, the downstairs bedroom was spacious and comfortable, complete with a private bathroom that made our stay even more convenient. From the moment we walked in, the cabin felt like home. It was immaculately clean and had a cozy ambiance that made us instantly relax. The rustic charm, combined with modern amenities, struck the perfect balance for a comfortable stay. Whether we were winding down after a day of exploring or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, the cabin provided the ideal escape from the daily hustle and bustle. One of the biggest highlights was the location. If you’re chasing waterfalls, you’re in luck! Several beautiful waterfalls are within a short 10- to 20-minute drive, making it a dream spot for nature lovers. Additionally, the cabin is within close proximity to Gatlinburg, which offers even more activities and attractions. The scenic drive between Cherokee and Gatlinburg is breathtaking, with stunning mountain views along the way. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of majestic elk at the visitor center—something we were fortunate enough to experience! This was my second time staying with BlueBirds, and I can confidently say it won’t be my las

Bluebird Cabins is owned and operated by Chris & Cheri McCoy. As a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Chris was born and raised in these mountains on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Chris grew up swimming and fishing in these rivers and hiking these trails. We have a passion for sharing the local culture, nature and relaxing atmosphere!
We purchased these cabins (formerly known as Ol' Smoky Log Cabins) from the original owners with a goal of bringing modern comfort and amenities while keeping some of the rustic charm. No improvements were needed on the location and views!
Why they chose this property
This property has the best of all worlds! Relaxing views of the flowing river with daily wildlife sightings, while being walking distance to hiking trails, biking trails, disc golf, restaurants, a brewery, shopping and more! You get the feel of seclusion with a convenient proximity to modern amenities. Just a short drive to nearby Sequoyah National Golf Course, historic downtown Bryson City, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, or even hop over the mountain to spend a day in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
