Duluth Press Building History: 1915 W. Superior St. aka The Duluth Press Building was built by architects Radcliffe & Willoughby in the year 1894. Extant Missouri native Hugh Wetmore spent much of the 1880s working as a reporter for the St. Paul dispatch before moving to Superior in 1890 to write for the Superior Evening Telegram. The next year he established a newspaper in Duluth's west end called The Union Workman: The People Press. According to Duluth journalist Paul Lundgren the paper was the official organ of The Duluth Trades and Labor Assembly. The following year Wetmore began courting Helen Cody, sister of "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Hugh and Helen wed in July 1893, the same month Helen took over as the paper's business manager. That September the paper's name was changed to The Duluth Press. By then Buffalo Bill Cody owned half of the business and financed the construction of a building to house it along the upper 1900 block of west superior street. After the building opened in 1894 Helen hired her daughter Mary Jester as its city editor and organized the Zenith Press Club, consisting solely of women. The next year she advertised the publication as "The Women's Paper of the Great Northwest." The periodical didn't last long, they published their final issue on August 29, 1896. Since then the building has housed other publishing companies, apartments, and various other businesses.

Margaret - Thank you so much for your continued support and for choosing to stay with us multiple times. Knowing that you come back time and again is the highest compliment we could receive. We really appreciate your loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back for many more stays in the future!
We enjoyed our stay. It was clean, quiet and in a great location. The only challenge was that one of the bedrooms was really cold. We know with the sub zero temperatures it is hard for the heat to keep up but the larger bedroom was drafty.

Thank you for staying with us. I’m glad the property was clean, quiet, and in a great location. Sorry about the drafty larger bedroom — had we known we would have brought you a space heater. This weekend the cold was excessive and all of Duluth was feeling it. But we do our best to make sure all of our guests are comfortable. In the future, don't hesitate to reach out. We are here to help.
We appreciate the feedback and hope to host you again.
Sincerely,
Amity — Manager, Heirloom Vacations
There are so many great features, but the location has to be at the top. The condo is even better than the photos present. It is just beautiful, comfortable, clean, and well stocked. The private parking space and loading area are certainly a plus.

The condo is just as advertised. Waking distance to many of the great stores, restaurants, and breweries in Duluth. Condo had great finishes and was very comfortable. We had some issues with check in but the property manager was awesome and took care of it right away. We will absolutely stay here again when in the area.
Cute place with high quality amenities. Good location to great restaurants and walkable neighborhood. The welcome gift basket was amazing! Check in and check out very easy. The best property on VRBO we have ever stayed. Loved it!
Super clean, charming and well equipped for the four of us. Very comfortable beds. Responsive property manager, well organized and easy process for check in and out. Conveniently located next door to Dovetail Cafe and Market for great coffees and bkfst! Excellent dinners at Bali Asian Cuisine (down the street) and at OMC Smokehouse right next door. Several fun shops within walking distance as well!

Nice place, good communication, noisy upstairs neighbors
Nice place- has good amenities, as described in listing. Good parking. Fun neighborhood with restaurants and bars nearby. We stayed on the second floor and the upstairs neighbors were loud (could hear them laughing & talking), stomping/walking after 10pm and into the early morning. Stayed 3 nights and all three night were loud. All of that considered, might stay again.

Joshua - It’s great to know that you enjoyed your time at Duluth Press and the vibrant neighborhood. We completely understand how disruptive it can be when your sleep is disturbed so while we aim to create a peaceful atmosphere for all our guests, occasional noise from neighboring units can sometimes occur. We appreciate your understanding and your willingness to consider staying with us again despite this challenge. If you choose to return, I’d be happy to do everything we can to make your next visit more comfortable!

We came from Canada for a girls trip.
We were 5 women. We were able to get ready and not have any issues. Lots of room.
Location was probably the most amazing feature.
The cafe beside was amazing for breakfast, and the restaurant on the other side was delicious.
Will 100% return to this location

Neat historical modernized Duluth Press Building! Quiet and comfortable. Because Duluth has so many amazing restaurants we ate out always while visiting. Inspired by the cookbook in the kitchen we visited Duluth Grill twice. I had to purchase the cookbook myself at the restaurant! The bedrooms required with comfortable beds. Bathrooms had tasteful flooring and subway tile along with glass door showers. I loved the adorable planters in the back entrance filled with assorted herbs and flowers! We came to visit the North Shore parks and take in Alison Krause and Union Station concerts. Thanks for having us!
The place is great, very cool and nicely set up. The neighborhood is undering significant redevelopment and there's a lot of energy. OMC Smokehouse is right next door, so their 5:53 a.m. deliveries mean youre going to be woken up if you have the windows open. On the upside, they start smoking meats about the same time.
Stayed here for three nights with my fiancé, siblings, and our two dogs over the holidays and it was exactly the type of space we needed. The apartment was clean, spacious, well-stocked on essentials, and very cute. Communication with management went smoothly, and parking was ample and conveniently located.
One note to consider if you’re staying here in the winter: one of the rooms gets pretty cold at night, regardless of what the heat is set at (think this is a product of the nice floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed brick detail.) There is a space heater and extra blankets to help remedy this, but something to consider for anyone sensitive to temperature when sleeping.
Carla - Thank you for rating your experience at Duluth Press. I'm so glad we could provide a space for you to relax and enjoy your time away. If your travels bring you back our way, I’d love to host you again! -Michelle
