We stayed at this property for our annual girlfriend weekend away. We loved the house and garden the moment we arrived. It has a boho eclectic vibe and fit our needs perfectly. Also within walking distance to canal. Host was fantastic! We would definitely book again and recommend to others.

Hi Marianne, thank you for your lovely review. You ladies were the perfect guests and that you are gardeners made it that much more fun. Please come back again. Winter is a great time in Frederick when the Rotary has the neon lit boats on the creek. Thanks again. Laurie
Communication with the host was seamless. The location was great for walking around town and parking was very convenient for two cars.

Our second getaway trip here and my go to recommendation for a place to stay in Frederick! Super cozy home in a great location, clean and well-stocked with small amenities. Clear instructions on how things work (TV, heat/AC, record player) and responsive host if there are any questions. Ok forward to visiting again!

Awesome property. Enjoyed the record player and record collection. Home was an easy walk to the canal and downtown. We enjoyed playing games at the dining room table with family. Communication with property owner was great. Will definitely consider property again for our next trip to Frederick.

This home is beyond amazing, as is the host, Laurie. This was our 6th stay, visiting our son at college. The house is warm and welcoming - we love listening to records (great collection!), playing board games and relaxing in the beautiful garden....and the book collection is out of this world. The walls and shelves are full of all kinds of mementoes, artwork and memorabilia - I always find something that makes me smile, giggle or reminisce! Laurie truly anticipates your every need, provides lots of small comforts - fantastic herbal teas and coffees (my daughter learned how to make an awesome French press!), teddy bears, lots of blankets, and everything you could possibly desire in the kitchen! My sons friends come for a lasagna dinner each time we've been there, and we actually fit 12 people comfortably inside! Laurie is always available and very communicative should you need anything. My family has made wonderful memories at the "Zook House"!
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. This place was perfect. The house was clean and very well appointed. It even has an extensive record collection.
A great find.
Thank you Laurie

Thank you for your business. I am glad you had a positive experience here. The records are a combination of my Dad's and others I collected from estate sales I conduct.
Wonderful place to stay to attend a lacrosse tournament. Location was peaceful and within walking distance to downtown. Great place to walk to dinner, ice cream, coffee shops, etc. Also, this location was close to the interstate.
Communication with Ms. Zook was top notch. The home had many amenities to include a great kitchen space to cook meals... Spacious and great beds!

Stay in Frederick MD
The location of property was excellent. Short Easy walk to all downtown points of interest. The photos of property were deceptive, so, I was disappointed in the property as it was not at all spacious. It was crowded with furnishings. There were ants on the kitchen counters, upstairs bathroom and kitchen and entry area. Otherwise, it was clean. The host was very responsive and generous with her home.

Hi Barbara, The photos were wide angle taken with a smart phone. It is an industry standard photo and not meant to be deceptive. I am anything but that. The house is very straight forward. Ant traps were out in a number of places and you made me throw them away because you were afraid your dog ( I allow them only by exception) would eat the ant traps. Furniture is appropriate to the space and the house is not over crowded. I removed decorative items from the bedroom that you did not like. You admitted to not remembering the online listing that you booked. I assumed you read it before commiting and that you knew you were renting a furnished home for a month...It is a clean and well designed space. I am sorry you felt it necessary to complain about your differences in taste on this review. A review is to cover the quality of the accommodations and amenities, not whether you like the design or not. You had a choice where to stay and there are alot of less interesting homes you could have selected in Frederick. I even paid for a mid stay cleaning for you. A VRBO is not a hotel accommodation, it is a vacation rental. You payment for cleaning covered only the post stay cleaning. Regardless of your complaint, I appreciate your business.
Me and my partner wanted an escape from the bustle of city life and had been recommended to visit Frederick, MD. It was such a treat to stay here! It's a short walk into downtown (which was full of interesting stuff to do!) and a cozy place to rest when not out-and-about. Highlights include the 1) the kitchen, which was well organized well and fully stocked with local coffee and tea, 2) the host's kindness/flexibility on check in-out times, which helped make the whole experience so much more relaxing, and 3) the charming details scattered all around the house! If a friend were travelling to Frederick, I'd absolutely recommend this property, and I hope to return next time I'm in town.
I believe this was our 5th stay at this property (?) and certainly not our last. It has become our home away from home while my son attends Hood College in Frederick. SO comfortable, with absolutely everything you could possibly need and more! Laurie is an EXTRAORDINARY host, fantastic communicator and wonderful human being with a house full of remarkable art, trinkets, books...it's like spending the weekend in a museum. Outdoor space is also phenomenally quirky! Every visit I discover something new and beautiful - last visit it was a gorgeous book of Native American photographs from the 1920s, this time it was a set of Kenyan salad servers that I found online when I got home. Can't wait to return in a month or two! It's truly one of my "happy places".

hi. thank you for your business and another lovely review!
We stay at this property whenever we visit my son at college...thisis our 3rd stay and next month will be #4! I can't say enough. The house has everything your heart could desire, comfy beds, a fantastic kitchen with EVERY kitchen tool you could imagine (and some I've never seen)! The decor is absolutely mesmerising. I could wander around for days just looking at all of the treasures, reading from a fascinating book collection, listening to vinyl on the turntable. In warmer months, the garden is magical. The host is more than accommodating and communicative. Can't wait to go back!

Thank you i did not realize I hadnt responded to this.
Once again, we had a wonderful stay at this property! This time it was not only for visiting my son at Hood College and watching lacrosse, but also for celebrating Easter! Not only was it SUCH fun hunting eggs (this house has some remarkable potential for hiding places!!!!), but entertaining my son's friends...lots of Italian food and big breakfasts! The kids love having a home where they can come hang out to get away from dorm life for a little while....the garden is lovely and the perfect place for that. All of the flowers are beginning to bloom and the cats come out to snuggle and be pet. Each time we stay, it seems more like a home-away-from-home. This visit, we were actually enjoying the house SO much, we hardly even explored Frederick! Laurie is the absolute best host, I feel very well taken care of when my family is here. Visit #5 will be in August for move-in day....can't wait!

Ginny, Sylvana and men! Thank you again for choosing us to stay with. See you in August.
We came to Frederick for a weekend away and stayed in this historic and renovated home - 2 parents, 2 kids, and our small dog. As happens in winter, we got a day of snow during our long weekend! The home is cozy, whimsical, and filled with art and antiques that are lived in - very comfortable and clean. Kitchen was as well stocked with essentials & cookware as I would keep at home, and selection of teas was unparalleled. The house is about 2 blocks from the start of town on Market street and so we had a great night out before the snow started. Given the weather, we stayed in close contact with Laurie, our host, and she went over and beyond to make sure we were warm and had salted pathways and sidewalks. We had lots of snow-related fun at a nearby park/playground, and the roads were perfectly plowed overnight, so we had no problem getting home the next day. This was a great option for a stay in Frederick.
Communication was great and check-in was contact-free if you’re concerned about that. The hosts were very kind and prepared an extra inflatable bed for us and had some homemade iced tea in the fridge when we arrived.
The property was very welcoming and perfect for a visit to Frederick. The house and patio is charming; very clean and functional with everything you need to feel at home. The bed in the MB was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever been on. I use a CPAP that tracks my sleep and I spent 10 hours asleep one night which is unheard of for me.
The house is nestled in a great spot away from town traffic; flanked by a few other houses, a small church, and the school for the deaf. Most of the spots you’ll want to visit in downtown are about 0.4-1.0 miles away and perfectly walkable. We looked forward to walking around everyday.
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Thank you!

About the host

Hi. I've lived in this house since 2000. I have transformed it into an innovative, comfortable space to share, and have been renting, with short to mid-term guests since 2006. I am a super-host on Airbnb and recently joined VRBO. I own Estatemax.net one of the DC metro's premiere estate sale companies. We are BBB Accredited, an Angi's Super Service Award Earning company for many years. The house is on a course for a long term transformation to develop into space for affordable housing for senior artists and creatives. Why they chose this property
This side 9f the historic district is set away from hustle and bustle, but not too far away, allowing quiet nights, privacy at the picnic area and garden spaces. On site parking is a rarity downtown, we provide one space in the lot and numerous on street unmetered. The neighborhood flanks Carroll Creek Linear Park, all of the downtown historic and arts district. The Francis Scott Key cemetery is 2 blocks west, MD School of the Deaf is across S. Carroll St from the house, the Revolutionary War Hessian Barracks sits on their campus. My property was a part of the original Frederick Brick Works and before that a tent grounds for soldiers during Revolution and Civil Wars. The new Frederick Book Arts Center is 1 block north, the Delaplaine Center for the Arts 2 blocks and the Frederick Visitor's Bureau and Greyhound station and MARC train station 2 blocks east. It is a central location, albeit on the quieter, south end of the city.
What makes this property unique
It is a shotgun style 1910 building of brick with a front porch swing, standing seam tin roof, with a storage garage on the north side and off street parking, a large vegetable garden in the back yard, herb and flower beds throughout the side and back yards. It is an oasis in the historic district.
