THE HOME We bought the home in 2022 and it had not been tended to for many years. We were smitten by the 200 year old stone home and felt we could bring it back to life. Inside is a carefully curated & professionally designed home filled with unique murals and hand-painted tiles, original art and décor.
LIVING SPACES There are two living room areas with the main dining table for 8. There is a second dining area for 6 if you want a more quiet space.
Adjacent to the main dining area is the fully equipped chef's kitchen with an Induction Stove and brand new appliances. Everything you need to create a dinner is there to support you.
ROOMS Two bedrooms have window seats for cozying up with your favorite book, or to take a cat nap. Every room has luggage racks & bedside charging ports on each nightstand.
Room 1 – 1 Queen size bed (downstairs) Master en suite with a bathroom, with a walk in shower. Has access to the side yard. The Queen mattress is a hybrid mattress of memory foam and coil springs with a pillow top pad. It has a mini-split for both heat and AC, and is very private from the rest of the house. The bathroom has handmade tiles on wall and floor, with a copper vessel sink and a beautifully finished custom wood vanity shelf.
Room 2 - 1 Queen size bed (third floor facing street) The queen mattress is a hybrid inner spring and memory foam. A substantial closet with a dresser, ironing board and iron gives you a place for your clothes. You have a Smart TV for you to relax if you wish. A skylight to see the beautiful night sky and ceiling fan to bring you comfort. A nod to the past with a stain-glass cubby hole that we truthfully have no idea what it was for!!
Room 3 - 1 Queen size bed (third floor facing back of property) Has a window seat with a view of the back yard. A comfortable queen size hybrid inner spring / memory foam mattress.
Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 3 share a full bathroom with brand new amenities: A deluxe rainfall shower head; a glass block wall and a hand-painted mural; LED vanity lighting.
The two bedrooms that share a bathroom (Bedroom 2 and 3) are on the third floor and two flights up from the other bedroom (just something to be aware of if you’re traveling with kids).
Room 4 - 1 Queen size bed (loft bedroom) This room is reached by going up its own staircase and is a loft with a bathroom all to itself. The queen size mattress is a hybrid memory foam/coil spring mattress with a pillow top mattress pad. This room shows the history of the house with a stone wall the entire length of the room. It has a mini-split for both heat and AC, and is very private from the rest of the house.
Guest Access You will receive a code 24 hours prior to the day of check-in for the smart lock on the main yellow door facing road. There is a parking area to the right of the house. Once inside, you will be greeted immediately by a stairway that lights up to beckon you to the main floor.
Other things to note This is an old house, and we have taken great effort to modernize it while retaining its old-world charm. The house does have its quirks, but that is part of its charm.
No fires are permitted in the indoor fireplaces. Please respect this and do not light any fires inside the fireplace at all!!
You will NOT have access to a washer or dryer during your stay, unless you are staying for 4 days or longer.
WILDLIFE & MAINTENANCE Our home is in a rural residential neighborhood with a lot of wildlife. You will often see deer roaming on our property. We have pest control & insect treatments monthly.
We love our 200+ year old home, but what comes with the joys of an old home is, well, tiny crevices, and sometimes there are "unwelcomed guests". We do not want to invite any insects or mice into our home by making it easy for them to eat anything. Please put your food in the cabinets and refrigerator.
You will hear traffic noise because the home is located near a small highway. It is not on the highway, but near it. We provide sound machines for night, and it has not been a problem with any guest. Please be aware that is not completely secluded, especially during the colder months when the tree cover is reduced.
When using the shower there is a slight sulphur smell from the well system. New filters have been added at the beginning of 2024 to handle this. It is not offensive, just something to note.
In the case of forecasted snow, local paved roads are well maintained by the town. We monitor the snow conditions and have it plowed if over 4" of snow.
The house is cleaned according to the Covid-19 sanitization policies of Airbnb.

Wonderful stay! We loved the property- it was beautifully decorated and very cozy on a cold weekend in NY. The attention to detail across the house was amazing. Each room was very thoughtfully decorated and had its own personality. We would love to return.

What a great and fun house to stay in when traveling to the Hudson Valley! Extremely well stocked, (including snacks!!), spotless, and so very comfortable. Communications with Nanci could not have been better - she has the best online guide to the house we have ever seen. My wife, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will book again for our next trip! Thank you again, Nanci for everything!

We had a lovely weekend stay at this stone house with our family. There were a lot of lovely artistic touches throughout the house and it was obvious it was well cared for. The hosts have gone above and beyond making sure we had everything we needed. Kitchens and bathrooms were well stocked and lots of lovely "welcome" items in all the rooms. Would definitely recommend staying here again.
We had a lovely time at the Gemstone House. There was plenty of room for our family of five, and every detail was attended to. We will come back!

Property was just as described and very comfortable for our group of 6 with 3 generations. Definitely one of the more thoughtful places we have stayed at--well stocked kitchen, enough towels, comfortable beds with good amount of blankets. The art and painting was beautiful too. We would return.

We had such a wonderful stay at this charming New Paltz home! The house is beautifully designed and thoughtfully decorated, with every detail taken care of—even down to toiletries in the bathrooms. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we loved cooking meals with fresh ingredients from local farm stands. Evenings around the fire pit in the backyard were so special for family time, and we also enjoyed cozying up to watch movies together at night. The location couldn’t have been more perfect—close to everything yet peaceful and relaxing. We’d highly recommend this home and would love to return!
We had a truly wonderful time at The Gem Stone Home! Our family of eight was able to comfortably stay here, with plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy. Everything was exceptionally clean and well cared for. Check-in and check-out were simple and stress-free. The location was perfect—centrally located to everything we wanted to do. The owners, Nanci and Jim, were fantastic—so easy to work with, responsive, and kind. The home had everything we needed and more. It was the ideal setting for a relaxing and memorable getaway. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to others

We loved staying here because it was spacious and clean. We choose this house because it was within an hour of Legoland. I loved how each room had queen beds because that made it easier on who got what room.
The house was beautifully renovated and they left a lot of the original character and mixed modern touches in perfectly.
We will definitely stay here again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review! Sorry I took so long to respond. We loved having you as guests and if you are ever in Hudson Valley again - please consider staying with us!
The Gem Stone home was a perfect retreat for our party of four. The house was spread out enough so that we each had our own rooms but offered enough common spaces for socializing. The house was well-equipped with modern conveniences, well-decorated to make it cute and inviting and well-stocked with everything needed to be comfortable. Communication with the hosts was easy and seamless. The house is not situated in a neighborhood but was convenient to all that we had planned to visit such as the Culinary Institute and other Hudson Valley attractions. Overall a good experience.

We could not have found a more charming and comfortable home to stay in for our Hudson Valley vacation! Nanci and Jeff did an absolutely amazing job renovating this 200+ year-old stone farmhouse. Each room is exquisitely decorated, possessing its own special charm and vibe. (You won’t believe the several hand-painted walls and stairs!) We quickly discovered the book Nanci wrote about their renovation journey, and read it while walking through the home, room by room, imagining the back-breaking steps it took to achieve such a stunning transformation. We enjoyed spending time in each of the living areas, and slept quite comfortably in the beautifully decorated bedrooms. Nanci took extra steps to add delightful touches, including delicious gourmet coffees, plush linens, lovely soaps and creams, tourist information and advice, and even snack baskets left about. This charming abode gets a 5 plus! Can’t wait to return someday!

My husband and I live in Queens, NY and are enjoying our third act of life these days. We were smitten by the 200 year old home - and wanted it as a vacation place for us - and to share it with others. We love having guests coming to the Hudson Valley and giving them a beautiful place to relax during their stay. Each family or group that stays with us brings a new dimension to the house.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the 200 year old stone home, and enjoy that it is very close to New Paltz. It is semi-rural, but 10 minutes to neighboring towns. Highland is a small town with a cozy feel to it.
What makes this property unique
So many things make it unique!! It is a 200 year old stone home with all the modern amenities and keeping the history alive. A professionally designed home with beautiful, bold colors throughout the house. Nooks and crannies give a nod to the past and bring charm.
