About this property

Rare Find. An Experience. Treetop Deck. Ravines.

A truly rare gem. Tucked into the trees, three sides surrounded by wooded ravines, this inviting retreat features a breathtaking treetop deck—perfect for relaxing, unwinding, and soaking in the beauty of nature. Whether you're looking for a magical retreat to hibernate in total comfort or a cozy home base for outdoor experience, this beautifully renovated A-frame cabin offers the perfect escape.

With 2 bedrooms and accommodations for up to 6 guests, the cabin sits on 2 private acres, surrounded on three sides by wooded ravines and directly bordering 2,700 acres of protected DNR land—offering exceptional privacy, serenity, and endless natural beauty.

Perched 80 feet above Big Walnut Creek, Smith Cabin provides sweeping views and a deep connection to nature. Enjoy quiet mornings on the front porch, gather around the campfire patio in the evening, or relax in the stunning screened-in back deck, suspended in the treetops and even featuring a bed for sleeping outdoors on mild nights.

This warm and welcoming 1,000-sq-ft A-frame is thoughtfully furnished with modern comforts, including:

• Memory foam beds (including the living room sofa sleeper)
• Blackout curtains for restful sleep
• A fully equipped kitchen
• Strong, free high-speed internet and reliable cell service

The cabin intentionally does not include a TV, encouraging guests to fully unwind—just bring your own streaming device if you'd like to watch something during your stay.

When you're ready to explore, you'll find state parks, scenic hiking trails, and nearly 100 of Indiana’s historic covered bridges nearby—including one just half a mile down a quiet gravel road.

Important Note About the Upper Level:
The upper level is an open loft space with no door between Bedroom 1 and Bedroom 2. The stairs to the loft are steeper than standard stairs and are navigated like a ladder, though they are safe and easy for most guests. Those who prefer to avoid the stairs can enjoy the comfortable main-level sleeper sofa.

Whether you're staying in to recharge or heading out to explore, Smith Cabin is the perfect place to slow down and reconnect with nature.

While you’ll have full use of the cabin, the owners keep a few personal items stored discreetly. Thoughtful signage marks any areas or closets to avoid, ensuring your privacy and a smooth, worry-free stay.

Winter Storm Note: In the event of a forecasted, significant, snow accumulation during your stay, owners will advise and accommodate a no-hassle, last-minute change of dates, as entry and exit on the gravel, county roads, and on the 400 ft. driveway will be nearly impossible.

About the host

Hosted by Debbie Smith

Host profile image
We are Curt and Debbie Smith, and it is our sole desire to share with others this special place that is a true gift from God. We hope and pray that others can appreciate what we have come to love about these woods, and these ravines, and this cabin... and experience it as the respite that it has been for us and others,

[Important to Note] While VRBO guests can be assured they will be the only occupants during the entirety of their stay, guests will quickly notice that Smith Cabin is also enjoyed by the owners. Signage has been thoughtfully placed inside the cabin to assist guests regarding "owners" items and closets to avoid.

Why they chose this property

As we said before, God's plan was for us to have this place. That is the only explanation for how we were able to find it.

What makes this property unique

Where do we begin. It's beautiful. It's private. It's safe. Everywhere we look we see uniqueness...from the treetop setting and Walnut Creek, 80 feet down, behind the cabin; to the wooded-ravine-terrain on three sides of where the cabin perches; to the 2700 acres of DNR woods as our neighbor; to the A-frame that we were able to design from the studs; to the Rolling Stone covered bridge 1/2 mile away; to our gravel road traced on maps since 1867, yet drawing very few cars; to the small town of Bainbridge, offering groceries and restaurants only 8 minutes away... these are just some of the reasons Smith Cabin stands out.
