About this property

Ski Cabin | Lake Views + Lounge Seating + Alfresco Dining | 15 Min to Palisades

Tucked along Tahoe's West Shore with the lake just across the way, West Shore Lake House pairs rustic mountain character with the kind of easy modern comfort that makes a group trip actually feel like a vacation. The setup — a main house plus a separate guest house — gives everyone room to spread out without losing the togetherness that makes lake trips memorable.

Step into the main house and the lake announces itself: a wall of windows across the front pulls in light and water views from the moment you walk in. A stone fireplace anchors the living room (a striking visual centerpiece), with deep seating arranged for long board-game nights, lazy afternoons with a book, or that post-ski wind-down when no one wants to move. The kitchen runs sleek and capable — stainless appliances, generous counter space, a barstool counter for quick coffee-and-pastry mornings, and a dining table set up for full family dinners.

Upstairs, three bedrooms keep the sleep arrangements flexible. The primary suite has a queen bed and its own ensuite bath. The second bedroom mirrors it with another queen. The third is built for the kids — two bunk beds plus two twin trundles, which means the cousins can pile in together without anyone drawing the short straw.

The guest house operates as its own quiet retreat. A cozy living area, dining nook, and kitchenette make up the main floor, ideal for in-laws, a couple traveling with the group, or anyone wanting their own coffee setup in the morning. Upstairs, the fourth bedroom sleeps a crowd — two full beds, two twins, and two twin trundles, opening the door to bigger families and multi-generational trips.

Outside, the front patio is the headline. Lake views stretch out in front of you, comfortable lounge seating invites sunset cocktails, and the outdoor dining table under a wide umbrella is built for the kind of long, unhurried alfresco meals you only get on vacation.

For winter trips, Palisades Tahoe is roughly 15 minutes up the road for world-class skiing and riding. The forest just behind the house turns into a playground for sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowman duty for the younger crew. In summer, the lake takes over — paddleboarding, kayaking, beach days, and West Shore's quieter, more pine-shaded stretch of Tahoe shoreline. Tahoe City is a short drive north for restaurants, coffee, and provisions; Homewood and Sunnyside round out the closer-in dining options.

Situated in the snowy Sierra Nevada Mountain range straddling the border between California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe offers stunning panoramic scenery and year-round adventure. Visitors flock here especially to ski and snowboard on dramatic slopes that seem to fall into the abyss of the lake’s blackish blue water, with the Sherwood Lift at Alpine Meadows just a 10-minute drive via Ward Creek Road, making it easy to hit the slopes in no time. Whether you’re looking for a day in the mountains or a cruise on the lake, it’s all here in Tahoe.

Local Attractions: Homewood Ski Resort, Palisades Tahoe, Eagle Falls Trail (hiking), Eagle Rock (hiking and lookout point), Emerald Bay, Sugar Pine Point State Park (Nordic events of 1960 Winter Olympics), Inspiration Point Vista, Chambers Landing Bar & Grill (American), Meeks Bay Marina and Beach, Tahoma Market, and the Rubicon (world-famous 4x4 trail).

Great Family Home in Excellent Neighborhood

This is an old Tahoe cabin that has been updated in all the places that count - the kitchen & bathrooms…leaving all the charm in the millwork and traditional exterior of house. It was so much fun to stay in this house with our big family - lots of space for teenagers to spread out (bunk rooms & guest house) but also congregate all together for meals together and games in the living room. Not bad to be directly across the street from Lake Tahoe either!

Thanks so much, Lori! We're glad you and your family had such a great time at the cabin. It’s wonderful to hear the blend of modern updates and original charm made for a fun and comfortable stay, and being right across from the lake is a bonus! We’d love to have you back anytime.

This lovely Westshore lake home is in the perfect location. We were able to walk across the street with boards to paddle every morning. While there is some street noise, I believe the house has double paned windows as it was perfectly quiet with the windows closed. The house is clean and neat. I would have enjoyed more closet access for hanging clothes but that is a small detail. Kitchen is lovely. Living room super comfortable.

Great Family Trip to Tahoe

Fantastic location right by the water! We were looking forward to paddle boarding right in the morning and the location was perfect. We could easily walk across the road right to the water. Enjoy the beautiful lake right from the porch. Traffic was a little loud but being next to the water allows you to overlook that. Great in-laws quarters above the garage. The house was extremely well situated with everything you could need and close by to lots of great restaurants. Great bunk room for the kids. Loved the additional option of late check out (fee) if available! We’ll definitely be back!

Thank you for the wonderful review, Abby! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the fantastic location by the water and that it was perfect for your paddle-boarding plans. It’s great to know you found the house well-equipped and that the in-law's quarters worked well for your group. We appreciate your understanding about the traffic noise and are glad you loved the bunk room for the kids. We look forward to welcoming you back for another stay!
