Staying at Doug’s Way puts you in the heart of it all, and our interactive guidebook turns your trip into a treasure hunt, leading you to the region’s best-kept secrets.

Arts & Culture
+ The area is best known for creativity & the outdoors. With Penland School of Craft, America’s oldest and largest craft school, and a vibrant creative community or artists located throughout Western North Carolina you can explore small, well-curated galleries, shop directly with artists in their home studios, and browse unique shops featuring gems and minerals of all kinds. Whether your day ends with a mountain sunset, a glass of wine, or the Milky Way overhead, Doug’s Way is the perfect base for your Blue Ridge adventure.

Guests have access to the cabin on the property. An detached artist studio/office/3rd bedroom is located across the driveway and is also available for a small fee. Please ask us for details.

See inspiring, majestic views of Mt Mitchell, the tallest peak East of the Mississippi, from almost every spot at Conley House. This luxury cabin by Stay At Penland is filled with original art, which is only natural with hundreds of artist living in the area. It was designed by artist Bill Brown with one of Doug Sigler’s early kitchens!

The cabin has all the comforts of home: robust gourmet chef’s kitchen, fast internet, 4K HDTV, sound, game system, smart home features, gas log stove, grill, fire pot, and has mostly Christmas trees for neighbors, so it's private!

NOTE: Conley House was part of the elite Airbnb Plus program (meaning we were inspected by Airbnb to ensure quality of stay) and appears on the platform twice with slight differences. The listing you’re viewing does not include access to the detached artist studio/office/third bedroom located above a locked artist studio, which is why the cleaning fee is lower. (Rest assured, the office is never rented separately—you’ll have the entire property to yourselves.)

If you’d like the extra space, feel free to visit our host profile and check out the other listing Dougs Way. While you’re there, you can also explore our other options.

BEDS: 2 King, 1 Full Size Fold Out (in guest suite), Pack ‘n’ Play. Fresh sheets, blankets and pillows are included for every bed.

ABOUT THE CABIN
+ Conley House was originally 2 cabins with a courtyard in between. The owner, Bill Brown Sr., later turn the cabins into 2 suites with an open floor plan living space between for him and his family. Bill Brown was director of Penland School after Lucy Morgan, the founder, retired. Railings and many other details are original to the home. The kitchen was made by well known woodworker, Doug Sigler. The cabin is filled with natural light in every room with each door framing the view. The home was designed to be passive solar, so it is not uncommon to be able to leave the doors open on warmer days in February. The abundance of light makes the home a cheery place that is very relaxing. We have filled the house with commissioned and original artwork that we have collected over the years. We hope it inspires you!

VISITING IN THE OFF-SEASON
+ Views in winter are amazing! Hiking the Roan or to waterfalls can be spectacular with almost no one else on the trail. However, in winter (usually mid-December through February or mid-March) some businesses keep different hours or even close, while others do creative things like popup restaurants and special winter openings. If you are concerned about what might be available please ask us. We'd be happy to assist you in deciding if visiting in the off-season would be a good fit.
_____
CHILDREN:
Children are welcome. The house is a home not a museum, so it can be a great place for families. We ask that parents be attentive, putting objects out of reach that may cause a problem or be damaged, putting delicate items are cords out of reach. A number of kid-friendly items such as a cutlery and plates, sippy cups, pack and play, highchair, etc. are available in the cabin.
_____
Conley House is an exceptional experience. We book in advance but please check with us. We’d love to have you!
