About the host
Hosted by Sharon Jarrett
We are both from Denver, Colorado, but have loved Alaska for many years. We purchased this place, near friends, in anticipation of retirement. When the children are not using their cabins we share them with the fisher people as a way to share our love of Alaska and to meet new friends.
What makes this property unique
LOCATED about a 2 hour drive South of Anchorage on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula, this rustic cabin is close to 2 major fishing rivers. It is 1mi south of the Kasilof River and 15 mi South of the Kenai river. It is also just across the road from Johnson Lake State Park.
The first 30 miles of the drive is along beautiful Turnigan Arm with spectacular views across the water on the west and rock walls smattered with mountain goats on the east.
This woodsy cabin has a small sitting area and efficiency kitchen which is stocked with the basic appliances and dishes need to make simple meals.
About 15 miles south of the cabin is NINICHIK This is a picturesque little Russian community. As you approach town watch for a small sign on the Right marking the turn to the Orthodox Church and cemetery. It is just a couple of blocks up the hill. It is a pretty building and area, with a great view across Cook Inlet of the Alaska Range.
Another 50 miles takes you to the ‘End of the Road” -- HOMER, Alaska Be sure to allow at least 1 full day to visit Homer. It is a busy artist community with a beautiful vies across the bay, so go on a clear day. There is also a nice local museum, a good bakery, and many eagles around the beach. One of my favorite stops is Mrs. Jones hair comb museum. (but she is kind of hard to find and only open by appointment.)
ON the drive to Homer you go through the community of AnchorPoint. Be SURE to stop at the Norman Lowell gallery and see his work. (Watch for ‘flags’ on the tree and turn left). It is a MUST Visit Alaska Homestead and gallery.
