About this property

Cozy Chalet at Goat Sanctuary with Water Views

This charming Aframe is tucked into the Catskill mountains, with spectacular seasonal views of the Rondout Reservoir. This house is cozy with rustic charm and is the perfect getaway nature-lovers. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the many hiking trails and waterfalls just a short drive away. A sanctuary for goats, animal lovers can visit with over 30 rescues during their stay. Art materials and yoga mats are provided to round out a perfect escape for you to unwind, rest, relax and heal.

There's nothing with more rustic charm than an Aframe (at least we think so!) And we certainly pack in a lot of charm to this perfect 600 square foot chalet.

The Aframe is all yours - it is not a shared space. It has its own private entrance, and has a "transition room", which separates the Aframe from the main house.

This completely private guest wing has a living room with wood-burning stove, eat-in kitchen, and a loft with two full-sized beds. The bedroom comfortably sleeps four and a full sized pull out couch in the living room can sleep up to two more.

The loft beds are cozy, and you wake up with a spectacular view out the front window. (Please note that the loft is a semi-private sleeping space with beds on either end of same loft space, with curtain divider) Beds have one feather mattress topper and one foam mattress topper for extra comfort.

There are so many details to mention...the wood-burning stove, wraparound deck, original wide-plank wood floors, slate tilework in bathroom, and skylights in loft, kitchen and bathroom. There is also a playground just down the driveway that guests are free to use with younger kids.

The area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Numerous countless hiking trails within minutes and Catskill Preserve trailheads just a short drive away. You can get to the infamous Blue Hole, among other local watering holes in the summer for a quick dip on a hot summer day. Also a short drive to the beautiful Mohonk and Minnewaska Preserve. You're a 10 minute drive into town for groceries, restaurants and local theater (Shadowland Theatre).

You are guaranteed to see a variety of other wildlife, such as deer, rabbits, chipmunks, hawks, eagles, owls, woodpeckers and the occasional bear. Don't get me started on the birds! So many to see and we have dozens and dozens of yellow finch and hummingbirds in the summer!

The wraparound deck with seasonal water views is great for lounging (during warmer months - we put furniture away in the winter) and outdoor meals. We love the area and we hope you do too!

If you are a fellow animal lover, the Aframe is part of the Frederick Goat Sanctuary. We have 40 (and counting) rescue goats (we'd love to tell you their stories - so please ask!) as well as dogs (also rescues). We would love to have you meet them, hang out, and give them treats if you'd like (treats are provided).

Weather and schedule permitting, ask us for an evening "Goat Happy Hour" where guests can BYOB and relax in hammocks and chairs surrounded by goats to chat about your day and get recommendations for things to do in the area. If we are able, we'd love to!

If you'd like to join us for one of our more formal experiences such as "Hugs and Hike", the "Adventure Hike" or "Art with Heart" - reservations are required in advance, unless you are flexible and can join us the day of when there are open spots.

If you wouldn't like to (it's OK - we get it. Goats aren't for everyone) they are on the far side of the property and very quiet, so they will not affect your stay.

We are 30 minutes from Holiday Mountain (skiing/snowboarding) and 55 minutes from Belleayre. Minnewaska and Mohonk are just 25 minutes away for exceptional hiking, and local trails to beautiful waterfalls are just ten minutes up the road. There are also many local swimming holes to explore in warmer weather and a beautiful natural stream on the back of the property.

We have a long list of local hikes, restaurants, experiences and attractions in a comprehensive binder we leave in the house and we are happy to share our local spots!

What a unique and lovely place for a cozy weekend! The host, Meagan, was a stellar, communicative, and welcoming host. And the goats did not fail to impress! The bedroom is up a ladder to a loft space. One of our guests had a little trouble getting up there due to an ankle injury. Fortunately, there is a sofa on the ground floor so that worked out great. I would recommend this for future trips!

Weekend away with the girls

I chose this property for a long weekend away with some girlfriends. We wanted to rest, unplug and spend quality time with each other. The location is great, far enough to feel connected to nature but close to cute towns with many bars, restaurants, and shops. As animal lovers, what better place to stay than at a goat sanctuary! We even had the opportunity to spend time with them during Art with Heart, an event hosted on site. Meagan was super friendly and responsive. The space itself was clean and well maintained. We spent wonderful, chilly nights in front of the wood stove, sharing stories and drinking wine. The A frame is a very special place, we will be back!

The A-frame is a charming and unique historical property that comes with it's own quirks and creaks. If you have never enjoyed older homes, don't like creaky floorboards or have mobility issues that prevent you from climbing a set of sturdy but narrow and steep metal open step stairs/ladder (see photos in listing), then I would suggest foregoing the A-frame and checking out one of the other lovely properties on this farm. For us, we loved it and found the beds and pillows to be quite comfortable. The best part about this stay was (of course) getting in some quality time with the goats and our hosts Meagan and Warren. We highly recommend the adventure hike and painting with goats -- just watch that Ansel (the goat) doesn't eat your brushes! For the Adventure Hike, we recommend hiking boots or at least sturdy sneakers (and a change of shoes and socks in case you accidentally step in a stream.) The walk is moderately challenging if you're not a regular hiker, but for reference my husband, broke his leg 1.5 years ago, is 51 and thought that the hike moderately challenging due to the uneaven terrain.Meagan and Warren are the best hosts. Their pups, Bella, Remy, and Timber are super friendly but be prepared they make a loud and rambunctious welcome party! They are just excited to welcome you! Highly recommend this stay and can't wait to come back with friends!
