About this property
Gorgeous Central Austin home minutes from UT and Downtown
Beautiful craftsman home in an incredible central Austin location perfect for a getaway with friends or family. Open floor plan includes a chef's kitchen, entertaining wet bar, spacious dining room, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, cabinets full of games, a Wii, ping pong table, bag toss and more.
The home has been lovingly cared for and is full of great, life-loving vibes. Many memories have been made here. It has hosted gatherings for friends and family, weddings, baptisms, birthdays, graduations, bachelorette and bachelor parties, welcomed new babies, recorded and produced albums and has been the central welcoming spot for all.
The artist home is well appointed, beautifully decorated and LEED designed to fill all spaces with TONS of natural light. The home is full of books to entertain you from art through classic literature. The walls are adorned with beautiful paintings from acclaimed local artists Tyler Guinn, Paul Meyer, Jess Engle and Will Johnson.
It comfortably sleeps 12 adults across 4 bedrooms plus 2 flex spaces. The large downstairs space can be used as a secondary living space, office, media room or bedroom with convertible double and single beds. Upstairs offers a game/TV landing space with a convertible double bed. We have additional cots if you'd like to further expand sleeping space.
The primary bedroom is a lovely respite with a private balcony for morning coffee or taking in the sounds of the birds. A huge bathroom and soaking tub invite you to relax. The large walk-in-closet hides everything away. The additional bedrooms are all comfortable, light-filled and spacious.
If work is what you need, there is plenty of desk space, high speed wifi and quiet. If you're after fun, you've chosen the perfect home in the perfect neighborhood.
Hyde Park is the oldest neighborhood in Austin, centrally located, only 1 mile to the University of Texas and 2 miles to downtown. Not only are you close to everything, the neighborhood itself is extremely walkable with gems to explore throughout:
- The Duval Center is an 8-minute walk featuring Julio's Mexican Cafe (a personal favorite for their Chicken Caldo, Chilaquiles and Margaritas), Curra's Tex Mex (an old Austin staple and home of the famous Avocado Margarita), Uncle Nicky's Italian Specialities and Cocktails for laid back bites and a variety of spritzes), Quack's Bakery and Cafe (the fanciest cookies, most delicious pies and pastries and coffees), Antonelli's Cheese Shop (featured in Capital One ads, get your charcutiere cravings and tastings here), Hyde Park Bar and Grill (40+ year old icon), Fresh Plus Grocery and Fortress Shoes (handmade leather gems that you won't be able to resist not taking home).
- Hancock Golf Course the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi and about 5 minutes walk. The municipal 9-hole walking course offers non-golfers a lovely 1-mile path around the perimeter and for those more sporty, you can drop in any time.
- Lutie's is special treat. An incredible 4.5-star restaurant in the Commodore Perry Estate; it's just across from Hancock. Led by esteemed Chefs Bradley Nicholson and Susana Querejazu, the fare is seasonally updated and delivers a culinary experience you'll not soon forget. If you're not too hungry, drop in for a drink at the beautiful bar or on their outdoor patio to leave you feeling pampered.
- The reimagined and restored Hyde Park post office is now home to several delights including the French, casual restaurant Bureau de Poste, the Tiny Grocer offering a world of discovery, the adorable and addictive First Light Bookstore and Cafe and AllDay Pizza.
Just north of Hyde Park but still within walking is the North Loop neighborhood. Known for its eateries, bars, cafes, extremely fun vintage and novelty shops, it's impossible to not have a great day here:
- Home Slice Pizza has become an local icon bringing NY pizza, subs and wings to Austin. From its original South Congress location, this Hyde Park-North Loop extension has 2 bars (one indoor and moody, the other outdoor and sunny), an outdoor play area for the kids and some of the best pizza in town.
- Drink Well and the Tigress, just across the street from one another, each make a mean claim for best craft cocktails and elixirs in town.
- Foreign & Domestic is known equally for their exotic fare and decadent patisseries. Their prix fixe is a chef's treat, Tuesdays have new excitement with $1 East Coast oysters and half-priced bottles of wine.
- Workhorse is a quintessential dive and Double Trouble a laid-back spot for coffee or cocktails.
- The shopping is much fun with several amazing vintage stores including Room Service Vintage (a personal favorite stop), Stitches Vintage and for luxe vintage, check out Ermine. Additionally, adult store The Forbidden Fruit and social justice bookstore Monkeywrench Books never disappoint.
And your hosts are at your disposal and a very short trek away should you need anything during your stay.
