We continue to rent the Redneck Retreat with our group during the SMTC it is roomy cleam and Jim has not steered me wrong.
Great space and lets everyone relax as a group.
We loved the location just north of town! Closer to the trails. Had a fun trip with 2 families fitting nicely in the home. Would definitely stay here again.
Amazing ski getaway at a geat resort. The house was perfect for accommodating our group with everything we needed. Great fireplace and hot tub to relax after hitting the slopes. Highly recommend to anyone.
We had a family of 12 and found this home wonderfully equipped with everything we needed! We ate all evening meals in the home. There was a grill in good working order and the deck was large enough to eat outside or we could eat inside at a large table. There were plenty of towels and we enjoyed the hot tub and Aspen trees! There is fly fishing within walking distance and access to bike and hiking trails! We would highly recommend a stay in this welcoming home.

Randall,
I am so glad you enjoyed your time in Sun Valley.
Summer really is the best time to be there.

Members of The Montana State Nordic team stayed here while participating in races at Lake Creek and Galena Lodge. It was a very comfortable spot! The big garage, boot drier, and fireplace were all great for keeping skiers warm and dry between competitions!
Our group of 12 found that the RNR house had the space to live comfortably, enough table space to eat, plenty of kitchen equipment, a good hot tub, and well appointed for our group. We found that we were close enough to town to go back and forth easily. But being out of town a ways was very nice as well.
We had a great time and this property was everything we could have wanted. It is a reasonably short drive from the ski area. The decor was perfect - and showed a lot of creativity.
The pantry included a lot of staples that have presumably been left by prior guests - and the property has a well-stocked spice drawer for the meals we prepared ourselves.
We would definitely consider a future stay if the family comes back to Sun Valley.

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay.
I only wish more of the Mt. would have been open.

We were very pleased with the place. Pictures are accurate and the home is just outside of town to the north. One of the showers was not usable, because of a leak, which was a bit of a bummer, but the owner says that will be remedied.
Everything is as advertised. All things in great working order. Lots of food and spices and oil and provisions, etc. for the cook. Lovely place with comfortable bedding. Wish I could blink this house to each and every ski resort I visit!!
This was our second stay in four years at Jim‘s VRBO. He’s a premier host. The large spacious house has everything our group of seven cross country skiers needed for a very comfortable stay. One of the best parts for us was the convenient location to all the xc ski trailhead locations right off Highway 75.
Exactly as described in listing. All amenities available, well stocked kitchen, local information, games cabinet. Everything very clean. Host proactively communicated for check in and check out. 10 adults and a teen were all very happy! Thanks so much Jim!

About the host

My wife & I love to ski. We live and work in Portland Oregon, but love Sun Valley and the Wood River Valley. Good friends recommended the Sun Valley Ski School as one of the best in the nation and we took our first lessons on Baldy in the early 70's. The 300 days of sunshine, the snowmaking, the grooming and the improvements made by Earl Holding, have made it our favorite winter resort. The groomed corduroy with an inch of 'cheater snow' make everyone a wonderful skier, you just can't make a mistake! But as the saying goes: "People come to Sun Valley for the Winters but stay because of the Summers." As good as Sun Valley is in the Winter, it is even better in the Summer.
Why they chose this property
With a name like 'The Red Neck Retreat' you know there has to be a story and there is! After way too many drinks on a ski trip to Park City in the 70's we decided we could do our own version of a 'time share.' We took a vote and Sun Valley was everybody's favorite. When we sobered up the next day it still seemed like a good idea. So 5 guys formed a partnership in 1979 with a mandatory Buy/Sell in the event of death, disability or divorce and the wives came up with the name 'The Red Neck Retreat,' after the Jerry Jeff Walker song 'Up Against the Wall Red Neck Mother.' There is a ski sign over the garage with double black diamond's that says 'Hardcore.' Hardcore is what we call the boys 3 day ski trip in January that has being going on since the mid 60's. It still only has two rules: One, no matter what you do the night before you are on the lift at 9 am. Two, you ski the last run of the day from top to bottom and the last guy down buys the first round of beer.
My last remaining partner died on the chairlift in Feb. 2012. He skied the bowls all day in a foot of new snow, had lunch at Seattle Ridge and died of a heart attack on the Cold Springs lift heading home. Not a bad way to go, but way too young at age 69. As a result we have decided to expand the rental beyond the handful of friends who go every year.
What makes this property unique
We choose the house out North of town because it is out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Ketchum, yet only 15 minutes from the Warm Springs and 11 minutes to the River Run lifts in the Winter. It also catches the afternoon sun.
With an easement to the Big Wood River we enjoy some of the best fly fishing in the Wood River Valley. Only a few locals know of the access to the river from our neighborhood. In the Summer when the town is packed with tourists, you are not affected. You are just 1.6 miles to the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, the Harriman trails for Cross Country Skiing in the Winter and Mt. Biking and Hiking in the Summer. Galena Lodge is just 17 miles North and Red Fish Lake 33 miles from there. Stanley is 54.6 miles from our home.
During the Winter we drive 11 minuets to the River Run Lodge and ride the Gondola, to the Round House, to begin our day.
