Located on the wild & rugged coastline of the Trotternish Peninsula, Driftwood Cottage boasts spectacular views across the sea to mainland Scotland and is the perfect bolthole for exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Guests can enjoy coastal walks at sunrise or hibernate indoors while storms crash outside; this characterful cottage offers sanctuary in all weathers.

The Kitchen/Dining Room 29Sq Metres / 310 Sq Ft.

This spacious but cosy kitchen in our opinion is the best room in the cottage – light and airy, it offers the best views and has been left as a wonderfully functional family kitchen. The ‘Stanley Rayburn’ cooker/boiler and large oak dining table, make this a warm and comforting room for socialising. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob/electric oven, microwave, coffee machine, fridge/freezer & dishwasher.

The Living Room 12 Sq Metre / 120 Sq. Ft.

This room offers wonderful views and is warm and comfortable. A flat screen smart TV and DVD player is available as well as a selection of games and books. There is plenty of space to stretch out on the sofas after a day’s walking/sightseeing.

The Family Bathroom

The family bathroom for the cottage is located downstairs, next to the Utility/Boot Room and has a bathtub with shower, toilet and wash basin.

Utility Room/ Office

A washing machine and separate tumble dryer is provided and this room is also useful to store muddy boots and wet coats. An iron and ironing board is also provided. There is also a desk & chair with power point sockets in this room and telephone which can receive calls and make local calls free of charge. The broadband wifi router is wall mounted above the desk. Internet speed is very good at approx 56mbps.

Bedroom 1 (18sq. Metre / 195 Sq Ft.)

Boasting wonderful views of Staffin Bay and mainland Scotland, the first bedroom offers spacious and comfortable accommodation, with a Super King Size bed 6ft 8 inch x 6ft (205cm x 182cm), inbuilt wardrobe, Chest of Drawer, Dressing table. Velux adjustable blackout blinds, a necessity in the summer when its only dark between 2330hrs and 0230am!

Bedroom 2 (13.5q. Metre / 145 Sq Ft.)

This lovely twin-bedded room also boasts magnificent views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Slightly smaller than the other bedroom, this room benefits from an attached toilet and small washbasin.

The Garden

Driftwood Cottage sits in a large enclosed garden surrounded by croft land overlooking Staffin Bay . A patio with outdoor seating, allows you to sit and soak up the view on a sunny day.

The Cottage is equipped with free wireless super-fast fibre broadband. There is a also a strong mobile phone signal from most rooms.

Driftwood Cottage is perfect for a family or 2 couples who are looking for that little bit extra, with comfortable accommodation offering more freedom and flexibility than a hotel. If you want to get away from the fast pace of life and feel the need to recharge your batteries, plan your trip to the magical Isle of Skye and make Driftwood Cottage your home from home.

There is a Fishmonger who comes to Staffin every Tuesday to sell fresh fish and seafood – contact the owners and they’ll arrange for him to come to the Cottage!

We are a 3 hour drive from Inverness and Fort William via the Skye road bridge (toll free), 4.5 hours from Perth, 6 hours drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh and 9 hours drive from Manchester. We would recommend anyone driving from the London or the south of England do an overnight stop around Carlisle or Stirling.

We had a wonderful time at Driftwood Cottage in Staffin. The cottage is in excellent condition, everything is well stacked. The owners provided everything you might need for a pleasant stay and a lots of extra thoughts put into making your stay comfortable. Very responsive owners, easy check in and out process. There are games, puzzles, tv, and speakers for entertainment as well as good suggestions for what to do in Skye. Highly recommend.

A picturesque cottage by the sea

Our stay at Driftwood Cottage was my favorite part of our travels in Scotland. The photos simply cannot capture the serenity and beauty at Driftwood Cottage. We were pleasantly surprised to see ewes and lambs surrounding the property and loved having tea with them every morning. The location was situated close to many attractions on the Isle of Skye, and we loved coming back to a true home with many amenities. Thank you very much for opening up your home to our family!

Amazing Isle of Skye stay

This property was absolutely perfect. The setting is gorgeous and one of the most peaceful places we have ever stayed. The sounds of the sea and the birds and the lambs were the best thing to fall asleep to at night and wake up to in the morning. Close to Quiraing for hiking and a good base for exploring the island. The house and kitchen had everything you could possibly need, very well equipped. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing stay!

It was our first trip to Scotland and wanted a base to explore the Isle. We were not disappointed. My husband likes to cook when we travel and was very happy with the kitchen set up. Pans, dishes, utensils, dish towels etc. The house is comfortable and very clean. We loved our time there.

We expected this cottage to be the nicest of the places we booked and we were not disappointed. Beautiful water view. Lots of light. On a clear night (which I understand is quite rare), the stars are unlike anything I have seen. We appreciated the detailed instructions sent a week ahead of time. We would definitely book again.

It’s kind of shocking that Driftwood Cottage managed to exceed expectations, but it did. In writing a review, I’m not sure if I should focus more on the location, the views, the cleanliness, the amenities, the communication, or any of the many other things we loved and appreciated about our stay. This space was both really practical—well stocked kitchen, convenient washer and dryer, clear and helpful instructions/signage/insights, spotlessly clean—and also really special. Believe it or not, I think the pictures actually undersell the views and sense of spaciousness. We loved spending mornings and evenings admiring the scenery from the cottage, and we also felt perfectly located close to many of the places we wanted to see. We had a wonderful time, and we’re so grateful for our stay.

Storybook cottage stay

I have stayed at many house rentals over the years and this is probably my favorite place I have ever stayed. It was the most beautiful, cozy cottage well equipped with everything you could need. The hosts made our young family (3 year old and infant) feel so welcome; they had the cot all set up for the baby with a beautiful quilt. The views from the cottage were spectacular. The hosts responded immediately with any questions I had. Very closely located to many attractions. Thank you for sharing the most beautiful place with us!

The Skye cottage of your dreams

This cottage is gleaming, bright, and more spacious than it looks in the pics. We’ve stayed in many vacation rentals and have never seen one that shines like this one, in multiple ways. Neater than a pin, and sunny, warm, and comfy. I worried about being a distance from Portree, but we ended up loving the location, a stone’s throw from the Quiraing and several other superlative hiking areas (Brother’s Point in particular is very special). It made our time on Skye even more wonderful.

Spectacular property that exceeded our expectations. The cottage is beautiful and perfectly maintained. Outside has a path to the beach and seating near the house where you can enjoy the rugged and breathtaking landscape views. Inside had everything we could possibly need. We cooked all our meals and the kitchen had all the equipment we needed. I had a few questions and and the owner answered promptly and with helpful information. I would love to return for longer. I could not recommend more highly! It's a piece of heaven.

Perfect Cottage to Explore Skye

We loved our stay at this wonderful cottage in Skye. Sally and Stephen were very communicative and cleared up our questions quickly. Everything on the aisle was within an hour’s drive and we were able to see so much with Driftwood as our home base. Fabulous cottage, amazing views

We needed a place to slow down and just ‘be’ over half term and the cottage was perfect for that. Extremely well equipped (Camembert cooking pot…) and beautifully warm and cosy, we spent lots more time in the cottage than we have planned as the weather was pretty hard going - but the kitchen table was the perfect place to do that - that view! Even in a storm!

Perfect peace

We had the most relaxing 3 days, a perfect tonic for our frazzled minds! The cottage is in a beautiful location, overlooking the sea and beach - just as the listing shows. The kitchen is the real wow, stocked with everything you need to prepare your food- but best of all the floor to ceiling windows showing off that view. There is a very handy and large utility, ideal if you have been in the great outdoors and need to dry coats etc The small sitting room is really cosy, the bathroom modern and clean and the two bedrooms really fresh and very comfortable. There has been a lot of effort put in to cleaning to ensure safety and it really was spotless (and I'm fussy!) Lots of lovely walks close by. We saw one of the boats around Staffin Island and as we went to Staffin slipway it arrived to offload its catch to the wholesaler. We got 2 lobsters off the skipper for very reasonable price, yummy! Would we go back, yes! Just please don't all go when we want to ;)

Having lived & worked in London for many years, we moved to Skye in 2010 and lived in Driftwood cottage for 6 years. Due to an expanding family we outgrew our much loved home and reluctantly moved to a larger house just a mile away. Whilst we now have more space we unfortunately don't have the same spectacular view that Driftwood cottage has. After many friends and family telling us it would make a fantastic holiday cottage we have now been receiving guests since March 2017

Why they chose this property

We knew we might outgrow this house before we bought it, but we really couldnt resist the view it had. We have made many improvements to the house over the last 6 years both inside & outside and are really proud of it.

What makes this property unique

The kitchen-dining room is a real treat. We have a large solid oak table next to a large floor to Ceiling window & patio door - which of course looks onto staffin bay. The sun shines directly into the kitchen most mornings from about March thru to september and in the winter the stanley rayburn makes it really cozy & warm.
