Barn Apartment on Farm Near Old Rag and Shenandoah National Park
Our barn apartment located in the heart of Madison County, Virginia on a 120-acre working farm is just a short drive to Old Rag Mountain, White Oak Canyon and Shenandoah National Park. The property includes hiking trails, a pond to sit by and relax, farm experiences and The Farm Store at Watercress which offers our Animal Welfare Approved eggs and meat, fresh seasonal produce, local items and souvenirs from Shenandoah National Park. Our guests have access to our three-acre river property on the Robinson River, which is a stock trout steam, located less than 3 miles from the main farm. We also offer tubes to rent during the warm months. The studio apartment, located on the second floor above our equipment shed, requires climbing a flight of stairs. Outside is a small deck and bridge to an outdoor firepit area, setup with a table, chairs and propane grill. Inside the open space has a queen size bed, futon couch, ceiling fan, pool table, gas fireplace (available in winter months only), large screen television with a large selection of DVDs (no cable or streaming). WiFi is VERY limited at this time. There is NO CELL SERVICE at this location. There is a landline phone available for use. There is one small bathroom, with a standup rain shower. All towels and linens are provided. The apartment faces east and offers mountain view in the winter and overlooks our main garden and farm store area. Our resident goats, zebu, mini donkey, Buster Brown and his pet pig George reside in a field and wooded area behind the building, and you can often seem them from the apartment. If you would like to meet the crew, sign up for a farm tour, free to all guests. If you would like a more intimate experience with the animals, we have a Snacks and Cuddles farm experience which involves feeding special snacks, walking, brushing and sometimes getting jumped on by the alpacas, zebu, goats, donkey, pigs, big and small, and ducks and chickens. If you would like any items delivered to your apartment, such as our Breakfast Basket, cookout sampler or fresh flowers. Please make arrangements in advanced, if possible. Please note NO PETS or animals of ANY kind are allowed in this building due to the close proximity of our livestock guardian dog, farm animals and our resident cats who live in this building. *** Our resident cats and dogs are allowed in this unit, when it is used by the family, so if you have allergies to animals this might not be the place for you. Only stayed for one evening, but it was the perfect launching point for Old Rag. I wish that I had more time to explore the property and spend time with all the animals. Would definitely love to come back for a longer stay!
The perfect place for newlyweds to spend the night after their wedding! From being greeted by the sweetest cats upon arrival to the serenity of the location and everything in between, this was a perfect spot! The apartment was very clean and welcoming! Everything was there that we could need for a get away. Communication with the host was great! Would definitely recommend and stay here again!
It is a very lovely clean apartment, easy check-in and out and a helpful host. We enjoyed our stay a lot! It is on a working farm so we saw and heard farm animals. We set outside and enjoyed the nature around, we got a visit from the farm dog, pet goats, saw fireflies and were followed everywhere by cats. Cats were the best, so friendly and cuddly! I recommend this place.
Jen was a wonderful host for this little barn apartment. There were lots of walking trails around the property, and they served as a warm-up to our Old Rag hike. I wish we had stayed 2 nights to be able to explore a little more, but we had a wonderful time.

Amazing stay! The home was so cool! Easy parking. Fun decorations. The pool table was so much fun. From being greeted by cats as we pulled in, to petting goats in the morning, it was an amazing stay. Very clean and accurate to the listing described. Easy drive to the national park. Highly reccomend.

So glad you enjoyed your time on the farm. Thanks for staying with us.
This is a unique experience, as you are booking an apartment above a barn. The roosters will be heard and the seclusion is fantastic. The host goes above and beyond with tours and opening up her day to day with your stay. Definitely worth the weekend stay and experiencing the farm. The cats and dogs are great with the kids and we had a great time. Many memories made.

Stay was great, and in close proximity to old rag. Room was clean and as described. Jennifer was very kind and knowledgeable about the area, providing annotated maps which SAVED us later on when we did not have service! Took the farm tour (included) and met all the animals which was a fun experience. Her cats are super friendly, love getting attention, and even came to see us off when we left. Would definitely book again.

This adorable loft, one room, apartment in the woods is adorable and clean. It was perfect for our stay after visiting the many local wineries in the area. Our host was so kind. She maintains a farm with many interesting and happy animals. It was fun visiting the goats behind the apartment in the evening then in the morning walking the trails and gravel roads on her property to see all the camp sites and her many other animals. There are eggs and meat, essentials and gifts, available in her store. There is a 2 burner stove top, a toaster oven, microwave and large frig. So don’t plan on using a big oven for anything. The kitchenette was well supplied.
We had a lovely stay, so much more than we expected. This is a very special place, if you have the opportunity to stay don't think twice. Will definitely return to experience other sites on the property. Thanks so much Jenn & John

So glad you could visit. Thanks for staying with us.
The host, Jen, was super friendly. You’re literally right on her farm so you see her out and about regularly with the animals. My son loved being able to roam around and see the chickens, especially. The old 1800s cabin is super cool. Just an all around awesome time unplugging from the world and reconnecting with family.
Loved the location. Clean. Bed was comfortable. Loved the kitty cats. Only complaint is that we would’ve liked to have had drapes or blinds on the windows & coffee pods available with cream & sugar.

Thanks for staying with us.
We provide several types coffee and sugar, which is in the cabinet as well as a coffee pot and grinder. We also serve coffee in the farm store (and have cream).
There are pull down blinds on the front door. The only window that someone could potentially see in. :)
