First, arriving at the house it looks nothing like its pictures. Looks old and is falling apart. Second, the door barely opens and closes. Third, when we got the door open, a cat pee and mold smell hit us in the face. We left and immediately called VRBO help. They put us on a three-way (recorded) call with the host where she acknowledged the smell, but tried to dismiss it as "outside circumstances" due to a cat colony living around and a lot of recent rain. She then got offended when calling out the state of the place and made it racial by stating we have a problem with the area. When I brought up that she was the one bringing race into this and my problem stemmed from the cat pee and mold smell, she again acknowledged there was a smell, but still thought it was ok to dismiss as an outside environment and it's just an old house. After the call, she followed up with a message that she "had people over" and there was "no smell." How convenient that it's now different from what you said on a recorded line. She also doubled-down on bring up race again and me having a problem with the area when's she's the only one that brought up race. She then threatened about ratings. The VRBO manager agreed with me that it's unacceptable conditions and will be looking into it.I don't care why it smells. But it's disgusting and a host shouldn't be surprised or get mad that someone doesn't want to stay there. She is rude and highly unprofessional.
