Jenn and I both ended up here near Acadia National Park for much of the same reason. We have always enjoyed what this area offers--hiking the trails of Acadia, horseback riding on the carriage roads, and sailing in the coastal islands. We both knew we would raise a family here. We've been living on Mt Desert Island for 18 years now(about an hour from the lake) and now have three children who also enjoy sailing, riding hiking, and fishing with us. Oh yeah, we also have an over-affectionate Portuguese Water dog, Briar, and two spoiled horses.
Why they chose this property
This is a unique property situated quite literally on the lake shore. It's quiet and beautiful but not out of reach of shops and restauraunts. Our family has been coming to this lake for many years. It was by chance that Jenn and I settled just and hour away from this magical spot. It is and always will be a place for family traditions; a meeting place where we can touch base and work together on projects while building family history.
What makes this property unique
Walking on to the deck overlooking the lake, you can't avoid forgetting the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Your attention is invariably drawn to the loons calling to each other across the lake, to the bald eagle that makes it's rounds overhead while going back and forth to his nest on Dees Island; there is a feeling that this place is out in the middle of nowhere--a 10 minute paddle to the inlet in the early morning will often reward you with trout for breakfast and a moose sighting. The water is clear and inviting, and many summer days have been spent more in the lake than gazing over its beauty. Yet, within an hour, you can be hiking up Cadillac Mountain for a view of the Maine Coast, or heading out of Bar Harbor in search of whales or spending an evening in town.
