Second stay here. So peaceful, private, beautiful, quiet, and really close to Astoria proper. I wish we stayed longer but it gets booked up so fast! Host is really friendly and available. We love staying here.
We had a wonderful stay. All the rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. And the host was friendly and available when we had questions. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
We had a great stay in February at the float house. The host is great and the house is very clean and as-advertised. We liked being close to Astoria, but appreciated the quiet and privacy of being on the river (the house is maybe an 8 minute drive to town, but at the end of a long driveway so very quiet and peaceful). Also, if you have to stay connected the wifi was great. The only thing I'd mention is on the main floor there are two sleeping areas (one room with a king or queen bed and one smaller room with a twin-ish sized bed) but to get to the smaller room you have to walk through the larger room (this was fine with the group we were with but is good to know). All in all, this is a great place to stay and unwind or explore astoria and rhe coast
We didn't want to leave. The Float House was amazing; comfortable, very quiet, very clean, snug, cozy, well-equipped, soothing. We absolutely loved it! Everything was well thought out and very well supplied. Liz was there to greet us and show us about. Lots of nature to watch, including a grouchy Great Blue Heron and a river otter.
What an amazing place! I could have stayed here my entire visit and never gone into Astoria ... just sitting on the dock and watching the wildlife and dipping my toes in the creek. Lots of room for everyone (we had 7 adults and we had space to be by ourselves or as a group). Astoria is about 15 minutes away and is such a great place to visit with lots of things to do and see.
All I can say is we were very sad to leave. Such a beautiful place, exceedingly clean, cozy, peaceful, private and relaxing. Lots of space in the house, well stocked and super close to town (but we hardly left!) Sitting on the deck and watching so many birds at dusk was a highlight. Looking forward to coming back someday.
We had a wonderful and a refreshingly unique stay at the Float House. It felt very private on the river and perfectly located for lots of activities in Astoria and along the coastline. Joy met us at the site to give s a friendly walk through and address any questions that we had. She was very responsive when we had one more question later in our stay. The kitchen was well supplied for our needs. The spice rack was very impressive. The bedroom arrangements worked perfectly for us and we were very comfortable. We enjoyed the ever changing weather and ebb and flow of the river. Though we didn't venture out in the kayaks, (horrid weather) we look forward to coming back and discovering the river in better weather. It was fun to watch the dragon boat practice too. We saw Jack, the blue heron, several times. I don't know the eagle's name, but he/she made a flyover a few times. Keep those binos close by. There is also a very interesting large book upstairs that is a primer to the estuary. This place is truly an undiscovered gem. The only note I could make is let people know that as the river changes the ramp leading to the float house can be quite steep. It wasn't a problem for us but it would be worth mentioning for those who aren't as mobile.
The float house was incredible. I had a hard time pulling my family away to explore Astoria and the surrounding areas. It was serene and rejuvenating. We spent time on the watercraft, watching birds, playing games, and just enjoying the ambience of the John Day River. Liz has really put a lot of thought into this rental. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. My wife says this stay will be a new core memory.
