This house is in a great location. Just a few minutes walk to watch a beautiful sunrise and a few more minutes to enjoy a day at the beach. The house has everything you could possibly need for beach and cooking.
Gregory the host is very responsive.
Thank you for a great stay.
Dealing with the host, Gregory, was efficient and pleasant. He is very gracious and his rental is well furnished and stocked generously with nice amenities. The views of Lanikai from the balconies are gorgeous, especially at sunrise. My family will certainly return to Gregory's house.
We had a good time at this spacious getaway. the accommodations were perfect for our two sons and we had our own space too. My only issue was the neighbor dog who barked every morning before 7:00. One of the best parts was the equipment that was there and the short walk to the beach.

Although the barking of the neighbor's dog was never really a problem, they were contacted and notified of the situation as of March of 2022. The neighbor advised that their dog is a house dog and normally stays indoors most of the time, but had to have the dog outside for about a month for some reason. The neighbor was kind and considerate enough to assure us that they will address the problem by keeping the dog indoors for the most part, as well as work with a dog trainer. We are confident the dog barking is not going to be a problem. As this is a very quiet neighborhood, for the most part, the birds chirping in the morning is all you're really going to be hearing. LOL
Gregory’s place provided us with all the amenities we needed for the house and the beach. It is the most well equipped kitchen rental we have ever stayed at. The beach wagon was a welcome luxury.
The location is a great residential area with the convenience of Kailua for food, a beach and a wonderful Thursday evening farmers market.
Gregory was responsive and prompt with any communication.
Would recommend for a family or friends stay.

Mahalo for yet another wonderful review. We so appreciate guests that are mindful and respectful of the house rules, etc. I appreciate the reminder of the nearby farmer's market in Kailua on Thursdays.
What a fabulous place!! 180 degree views of palm trees ocean and mountains. 5 minute walk to beaches. More Beautiful beaches near by. House was pristine Kitchen very well stocked. Clear and helpful instructions from host. Very responsive to all inquiries. Comfortable and quiet house. No complaints at all Would come back in a heartbeat Thanks for a wonderful vacation
Beautiful house with plenty of space. Close (walking distance) to beach with several others close. Nice assortment of beach toys. Even though Feb stay, nice to have AC! Quiet neighborhood and great opportunities for am walks. Great communication with host. No issues; well appointed kitchen.
Greg made the entire experience easy and pleasurable. His knowledge of technology and his willingness to work with us was superlative. I have already rented again with him because he did such an outstanding job. The house was beautiful and well-equipped and well-situated. Wonderful experience!
This home is better than the pictures. The views are fantastic. The location is perfect for a quiet family getaway. We opted to walk the extra 1/4 mile past the first beach access to get to Lanikai Beach. It’s a great, uncrowded spot to spend your days. Beach chairs, sand toys, boogie boards provided.
The communication with our host, Gregory, was fantastic, from the minute I made the reservation and throughout the whole stay. If we come back this way, we will be back. Mahalo!

Wow... wow... wow Robert! Mahalo for for taking the time and providing us with such a great review. For the most part, 99% of the visitors have great experiences and feel the same way as you do regarding the home, location, etc. We know that the majority of visitors get very busy returning home from their trips and never get around to writing a review. As such, we appreciate your review and all the others that were kind enough to take the time to say "Mahalo we appreciate your home, location, and all the aloha that you shared with us."
The home has a marvelous ocean view and is immaculate. The TVs are large and the furniture is very comfortable. Most importantly, the owner, Greg, is very accommodating and helpful. Our rental car battery died and he was kind enough to wait for the tow so we could make it to our luau. He was also gracious enough to return a clip my granddaughter left there. One of the best travel experiences - ever!
We fell in love with this location and this home! It’s in a quiet safe area and so close to the famous LaniKai beach. The home is filled with everything you could possibly need for your vacation. We especially loved all of the beach gear…beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear, umbrella‘s, coolers, and best of all a wagon to haul it all in. It made our beach days so much more comfortable and convenient! The house has a lot of nice updates. It’s open and airy, and has such a beautiful view! Gregory was so kind and welcoming! I love that it’s managed by him and not some big company. It’s clear he wants his guest to have a wonderful time. Thank you so much we enjoyed our stay and hope to stay with you again!
Had a relaxing time in Kailua...nice quiet location yet close to the beach. Have to walk about 10-15 minute to get to large enough beach area, but less than 5 minutes to the beach park with parking and beach. Short drive into town with lots of shops, dining, Target, Whole Foods, etc....Gregory was a great host and always attentive to answering questions. The house was very nice and spacious. The ONLY thing that was a little inconvenient was having to always pull in the garage and keep door closed. Would have been much easier to be able to just park in the driveway for easier coming and going. I would also suggest renting smaller cars if able as its it but of a tight squeeze. All in all, the place is as advertised, and if you read past reviews about the steps being so bad, they really aren't any worse than typical home stairs. Just be careful if you have heavy luggage. I would definitely recommend this home!

Mahalo for another great review. In regard to having to park vehicles in the enclosed standard 2 car garage, the safety and security of our travelers and the home are paramount. Although Hawaii is a safe place, we prefer to take all precautions to protect our travelers at all times by keeping the home and all vehicles secure. We also appreciate the comment regarding how the stairs aren't any worse than the typical home stairs. Thanks again for the great review.
Good place, quiet neighborhood, clean. Fair price. Good communication with the owner. It does have a tall staircase to the front door, then a second level for the kitchen/ family room. Wouldn't be a big deal but with health issues it was a chore bringing up suitcases! Only other issue is the AC is on a program that shuts it off for at least an hour if no movement in the house. It got pretty warm a couple times. But when I contacted Gregory through the VRBO site, he called me right away and overrode the program from his place. So he was very responsive!
Otherwise, nice view from the upper level, patio upstairs (no yard), clean place with decent furniture. Walk to a couple small beaches and 5 minute drive to a large beautiful Kailua beach!

The traveler is mistaken as to how the air conditioning (A/C) system operates. In order for us to charge between $75 to $125 less than most comparable homes in area, we utilize and operate our A/C on what is called an Ecobee Smart Thermostat (the system is explained in the guest book at the home). In short, the Ecobee Smart Thermostat will save electricity and shut off the A/C if it senses that the travelers have left the house for over a 2 hour period. Once the A/C shuts off after 2 hours of the home being vacant, the Ecobee system stays off for a 2 hour period unless I over ride the system, which is easily accomplished by me remotely over my phone). For the most part, when travelers return back to the home after being out at the beach or driving around the island, the A/C will kick back on within a minute. As such, unlike most other vacation rentals in the area, not only do we keep the home cool during your stay, we are able to do so in an economical way to pass on the cost savings to the travelers. As mentioned, this is one of the reasons we can charge travelers between $75 to $125 less per day. We should also mentioned, that on a number of occasions, we have been asked to turn the A/C off or to raise the desired temperature because the home was too cold for some visitors.
The home has a magnificent view of the ocean and majestic Mokulua islands mainly because the home sits above most of the homes in Lanikai. As you would guess, homes like our home that sits above and overlooks most other homes in the area is because the home is built on an embankment that requires stairs to get to the front door or kitchen/living room area. In order to have such a great view, which 80% of the homes in Lanikai do not have, the home had to have been built with stairs. We have had visitors here from all ages. Many of the visitors were well over 75 yrs. of age and even in their 90s. Some of them have had knee replacements, recent surgeries, etc. The stairs are your typical stairs with landings of which 95% of travelers have used. We would, however, suggest that for those that have concerns or difficulties in walking up stairs, please ask for a call back and we can discuss whether the stairs potentially might be a problem for you.
The property was absolutely beautiful and can accommodate 6 people comfortably. The property owner screens you before he accepts your reservation and I thought I could meet all rules but unfortunately it was very stressful to keep worrying that I would do something wrong that it took some of my pleasure away from my final week in Oahu. If you are even a couple of minutes past check out and are rushing to get out as close to 10am as possible be prepared for 4 or 5 phone calls rushing you out. With small children or teenagers it may be difficult to get out exactly at 10. He was concerned with having his cleaners wait and paying them extra but the cleaners did not arrive until 10:10. So for me the anxiety the rules caused me outweighed my pleasure and I would choose different accommodations on my next trip to Oahu.

Let us first state that all throughout this traveler’s stay (up until the point in which this traveler should have vacated the property), she described the home as “beautiful” and her trip as “amazing.” Everything was fantastic up until the point when this traveler was advised that it was past the checkout time and that our cleaners were being delayed. It is quite unfortunate this traveler here had difficulties following what 100% of our travelers have expressed as “simple house rules.” Prior to accepting all traveler’s bookings, as well as before travelers arrive at our home, all travelers are advised and reminded of the house rules on at least 4 occasions (both verbally and in writing). Prior to accepting this traveler’s booking, the traveler agreed to all of the rules and most certainly did not express any anxiety or angst regarding said house rules. Had the traveler been honest and expressed the fact that she struggles emotionally with rules, we most certainly would not have accepted her booking and would have suggested another lodging place where they do not have any house rules to concern herself with (had we also seen a review of this nature from this traveler prior to the booking, we would have not accepted her booking). Although the traveler knew the checkout time was no later than 10 a.m. prior to her stay, the traveler was again reminded that the checkout time was at 10 a.m. The traveler was also advised the cleaners would be pulling up in their vehicles promptly at 10 a.m. and that it would be appreciated if she vacated the house and premises to allow the cleaners to pull into the garage. To our disappointment, this traveler ignored our requests and obviously had no intention of leaving on time (we are confident this traveler would not have left until the cleaners showed up regardless of what time it was). After finally answering our repeated calls to advise the traveler that our cleaners were waiting outside and driving around the block, the traveler said, “Oh… it’s okay…. they can come in and clean while we are here.” We politely advised her that because of Covid the cleaners will not enter the house until she vacated the premises. After raising her voice and saying, “We’re leaving,” the traveler abruptly hung up on us. It was only then that this traveler and family members even began to carry down all their luggage to their vehicle while my cleaners sat in their car and waited (the traveler less than truthfully states the cleaners did not arrive until 10:10 a.m, when in fact she was told that the cleaners arrived just before 10 a.m. and were driving around the block waiting for her to leave). Somehow this traveler did not feel that our cleaners are hard working people that deserve to be treated with the very kind of consideration and respect that any other persons deserve. What also is interesting is how this traveler subsequently contacted us and instead of apologizing for not checking out on time wrote the following, “You may want to rethink your scheduling of your cleaners to 10:15am for the occasional person who needs a few extra minutes leaving your home.” We are confident that the majority of readers would agree that for people that struggle with following a simple rule as a checkout time, asking them to checkout at 10:15 a.m. would only mean they will not leave until 10:30 a.m., or even worse, not until the cleaners or someone eventually showed up. I would have expected better, but realize there are a minority of people out there that are incapable of accepting responsibility for their own shortcomings and instead misdirects the blame on other factors. We really tried to understand just how this traveler believes that our scheduling, house rules, etc. all should evolve around her, but we are still at a lost. What this traveler does not realize is that at some places there is a late checkout fee even if it’s just 5 minutes late (something we unfortunately now have to consider, as we are sure had we had a late checkout fee we are sure this traveler would have been out on time). As our multitude of 5 star reviews speak for themselves, we have met quite a number of outstanding travelers that live aloha and treat others with the respect, kindness, and a wonderful consideration of others. We always try to do our best and welcome those that embrace the same values that we have. Our rules are quite simple (take a look before booking please). We understand that they may not sit well with a small few. We will be the first to suggest that if our rules causes any type of emotional stress please continue to search for another wonderful location for your booking and enjoy your stay there. We always look for a win/win situation and unfortunately with travelers like this one….. nobody wins.
The view from the top floor is lovely, and there is a little beach access within a few- minutes walk from the house. This property worked well for our family who wanted to revisit the Windward side of the island where parents used to live. We appreciated all the beach equipment available to us. The kitchen was very well equipped. And the linens and towels were well-stocked.
Expect lots of stairs.
A hose was provided to wash off sandy feet. There was also an outdoor shower at the side of the garage. Gregory wasn't sure how well it worked, but we thought it was fine. An improvement to it would be to provide some sort of screen, for when the only way to get the sand out of your shorts is to remove them. We held towels.
Turns out there is no cell service in Lanikai. At Gregory's instruction, we routed calls through the WIFI in the house, but we had varying results with different phones among family members. That given, Gregory did a good job of keeping in touch with us.

Nice to hear this traveler and their family had a great time and enjoyed their stay. We actually do have cell phone coverage at the house. Unfortunately, the traveler does not have a regular smart cell phone and uses a Tracfone whenever they travel. We are not familiar with that type of phone, but know that no other traveler has ever not been able to use their smart phones at the home. Although all of the homes in Lanikai have bad reception, the home is set up with a Wifi connection so that all smart cell phones do get reception. We once had a company from out of state with 4 employees working out of the house. They all had no problems working with their cell phones and laptops all at the same time with no reception problems. It would be my guess the Tracfones are limited. Also, we have found that on occasion a traveler can not get their cell phones to work. However, on all of those occasions the problem was user error and those travelers eventually were able to enable their wifi setting and get phone reception.

Kailua is amazing, the house is a bit dated, very nice owner.
Here is an honest opinion of the house. We stayed there for a week in March of 2018 with our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids, ranging ages 5-8). The house is in a wonderful location at the end of a private neighborhood towards the end of Kailua on Lanikai beach. This is the most beautiful beach on the island and one of the top rated beaches in the US. I would highly recommend staying in Kailua and spending time on Lanikai beach.
With respect to the home, it is fully stocked (toilet paper, paper towels, beach supplies, beach towels), cable TV, decent WiFi, Washer/Dryer and central air which is hard to find on the island. It is about a 15 minute walk to the beach, so we drove each day. It is about 5 minutes to the ocean access, not beach access. Parking was fine. Greg was responsive as an owner.
Here are some of the cons. The house is dated and needs about $50k in repairs and updates. The kitchen is made of formica, the carpets downstairs are worn and had areas with excessive breakdown/stains, the guest bathroom had been glazed which was wearing off that no one used, and we had regular cockroaches in both the garage (large) and kitchen (small to medium).
The house has tremendous potential and is in a great location with a good layout / view. It just needs a renovation and a regular exterminator.

In response to the traveler's review, we feel compelled to correct a number of inaccuracies, exaggerations, or comments that are not absolutely true. Then again, as we all know, sometimes reviews reveal more about the reviewer than what is actually intended to be reviewed. We understand that sometimes people go through life with their cups half empty, as opposed to half full.
Most importantly, although Hawaii is a tropical island with insects including roaches, we have never had roaches in the house, nor have we had any other traveler complain of such. Although is recommended and successful to have pest control treatments once every 2 months, we instead treat the home once every 3 weeks. Yes, from time to time, in the outside garage area, there will be a dead roach that succumbs to the ongoing and frequent pest control treatments that we do.
The closest beach access to the home is 1/10th of a mile away (literally a 3 minute walk). Although a small less crowded beach area to layout at, it can accommodate about 10 people (see photos 30 thru 36). If one prefers to go to the longer stretch of beach area on Lanikai Beach, it is a half mile walk or a 1 minute drive away. We have a collapsible wagon for the beach available.
As of May 2018, the home has been 66% completely renovated with new flooring, new guest shower with glass mosaic type tile, new windows, etc. (see photos 12-19 and 27-29). The guest bathroom is completely new and was done with turquoise glass tile.
I blocked calendar for two weeks in Nov. as final renovations of top floor and kitchen will be completed at that time. The traveler's comment about the Formica counters in the kitchen, although rather inconsequential to most visiting for the sole purpose of having a great vacation, is simply inaccurate. The counter top is actually Corian. We would have hoped that while standing in the kitchen and trying to decipher the type of counter top we have, the traveler would have instead tilted his head up about 30 degrees and noticed the magnificent and most magical view of the Mokulua islands. Then again, and sadly enough, we know that sometimes people go through life with their cups half empty, as opposed to half full.
We welcome all to come and visit this magical place of aloha. Bring your family, loved ones, passion, and open hearts to our home. We hope that when you leave you will have made memories of a life-time.

Perfect location for a perfect Vacation
From the moment we booked to the moment we left Gregory made us feel at home. This is a well appointed house , with absolutely everything you might need from beach items to spices . The beds were very comfortable and the views were amazing. Plenty of space for the four of us and each couple had their own area to relax and not be on top of each other. WE loved it. I spent most mornings reading on the deck listening to the waves and taking pictures of the amazing sunrises. The garage was large and we appreciated having it in the heat it was nice not having to get into a sweltering car. We explored the whole island from here. The beaches close by are terrific we found the fourth or fifth path was the best for us to chill and enjoy the beauty. The larger beaches are nice but crowded and not what we were looking for. Splinting hairs on the walk to the beach is crazy ...you can walk to the beach bonus! The furniture is comfortable in the living room and the little alcove by the kitchen is perfect to chill and read with plenty of light. The wading pool is perfect for cooling off I am used to the cooler waters in upstate NY and I enjoyed your little pool almost daily . We cooked out on the grill and enjoyed most of our dinners in just enjoying the deck and the openness of this home. There was laundry detergent and dryer sheets and we appreciated the washer and dryer it was quite handy for our beach things. There is a wagon to use to bring tthe beach gear provided to the beach maybe an 8 minute walk as well. Beach umbrella, boogie boards, beach chairs, Beach towels nice ones lol .Just amazing if we needed something from bug repellent to body wash it we looked around it was there. There are a few books on Hawaii in the small bookshelf by the upstairs bathroom.I appreciated having a few books to read while I was there. We left ours as well for others to enjoy. The air conditioning is a genius idea, once we figured it out and walked by the sensor as soon as we noticed the temp rising (it only happened if we were sitting around, it senses movement and shuts down if it thinks no one is in the area and there's no need to keep cooling) what an energy saver and we never had an issue with it. Mahalo Gregory for sharing your precious piece of paradise with us.

Mahalo for such a comprehensive and wonderful response Cheryl. I had to laugh when reading your response, as I couldn't have written a better and complete response that really depicts the home, location, proximity to the beaches, etc. as you have and as it really is. One of the great things about sharing my home with guests is it provides me an opportunity to meet amazingly wonderful people like you and your guests. The spirit of aloha is never more alive when it comes full circle as it did with you and your guests. Mahalo for being great guests and I hope to see you again. If you decide to return, the ;home as of today, as Iwe speak, will be totally renovated with new flooring, kitchen cabinets, and granite counter tops. I look forward to having back again.
The living space and kitchen were wonderful with a gorgeous view. Th deck was large with awesome ocean views. The beach was very accessible. The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet. We will definitely stay here again!
This is a beautiful home with an upstairs living area (which allows beautiful views of the Mokulua islands out the windows and from the deck), and bedrooms downstairs. We travelled with 3 toddlers and this worked out great with lots of gear provided. Comprehensive set of beach gear also provided and the sandy part of Lanikai beach was an easy 0.7mile walk with even a wagon provided for the kids! Gregory was a wonderful detail oriented host and we were never left hanging on any issue. The deck was an amazing space for the adults to gather, cool off in the plunge pool, and take in the view (toddlers will need close supervision). As a guest you won't have control of the air conditioning system but Gregory responds instantly by text when a change is needed.
Excellent property in an amazing location with a pool, spacious living room, great views of the water, and comfortable kitchen/furniture/laundry amenities. Our host was extremely accommodating and easy to contact at any time throughout our stay. We had a great time staying here for our vacation for our small family.
The property was wonderful, and clean. It offered everything we needed to relax, and has a breathtaking view of the ocean. The owner is easy to get ahold of and made the check in and check out process seamless. Highly recommend and will stay here again should we come back.
The property and Host were excellent. We were very pleased with all of the accommodations, and contact with the Host. Gregory was always available for any questions and responded quickly. We enjoyed celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 1/2 year old grandson. We walked about 15 minutes to the beach, Gregory had all beach equipment including a wagon and stroller, beach chairs, umbrellas and all the play toys for adults and children. We would stay at this location again and would highly reccommnend this location for complete enjoyment.

Why they chose this property
This property is located within a 3 minute walk from the beach. The home is in a very quiet location and has a very relaxed feel of not staying in the busy tourist area of Waikiki and the like. Not only is the home a spacious 2200 sq. ft. home, but it especially is nice having a central air conditioning unit throughout the house. Although the weather is fantastic in Lanikai, it is especially nice to come in doors and enjoy the comfort of a cool home with central air conditioning, which most other properties do not have.
As mentioned, if you are looking for a quiet get away with a view of the ocean and Mokulua islands, this would be ideal for you and your family. This vacation rental is best suited for those that are interested in a quiet relaxing atmosphere.
What makes this property unique
This Lanikai home is located in not only the best part of Kailua, but located in the best part of Lanikai. The home also has central air conditioning for those that prefer to spend some time taking a break from the warmer Hawaii weather. Also, the home has a magnificent view of the Mokulua islands where sunrises and moon risings can be observed while sitting at the dining table. Many of those that have experienced the home have expressed their desire to never leave or to stay a bit longer. This is a most fantastic way to experience the paradise of living in Hawaii.
