About this property
Spacious & Well-Equipped Apartment in Quito’s Centro Histórico - 3BR & 3.5BA
The Home
This modern, light-filled apartment spans over 1,300 square feet across three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms — giving individuals, couples, families, and groups plenty of room to spread out and feel at home.
Two spacious master bedrooms each feature their own private en-suite bathrooms and generous closet space. The third bedroom offers two comfortable twin beds and ample closet space. Every room is bright, airy, and well-appointed.
The fully-equipped kitchen features granite countertops with seating for four, a full-size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and a complete set of dishes, cookware, wine glasses, and utensils — everything you need for a morning coffee or a full home-cooked meal.
The open-concept layout flows into a generous dining area with seating for eight, and a large living room furnished with a sofa, two comfortable armchairs, a coffee table, and a Smart TV — plenty of space to gather, unwind, or simply decompress after a day out.
Additional highlights include a brand-new LG washer and dryer, 750Mbps high-speed WiFi, and a dedicated private parking space in the building's secure underground garage.
The Building
The apartment complex is one of Quito's hidden architectural gems — a former Spanish Colonial school, beautifully preserved and thoughtfully updated. Our apartment is located in the newer wing, offering tall windows, high ceilings, and abundant natural light. The stunning central courtyard carries the character of the original colonial design.
The complex is staffed by 24-hour on-site security, and only residents and approved guests may enter — making it a genuinely quiet and worry-free place to return to after a day of exploring.
The Neighborhood
Our home sits on Calle Junín in San Marcos, one of Quito's most beloved and authentic neighborhoods. Families here have lived on these streets for generations, and that sense of community and history is something you'll feel the moment you step outside.
Just steps from the front entrance, next to the historic Iglesia San Marcos, you'll be greeted by a spectacular view of La Virgen del Panecillo. Pull up a chair at Bocanada, order an artisan pizza and a glass of wine, and take it all in.
Within a 2–3 minute walk, Calle Junín is lined with coffee shops, art galleries, antique stores, museums, woodworking shops, restaurants, and dessert spots — including La Purísima, a restaurant tucked inside the Casa Museo Muñoz Mariño where art and cuisine intertwine. Other nearby favorites include Angel's Town, Artifice Café, and Padmitos for an excellent vegan option. Several small bodegas, including Víveres Vanessa just across the street, stock all the everyday essentials — groceries, fresh bread, hygiene products, and more.
Within 5–10 minutes on foot, you'll find yourself among Ecuador's most iconic landmarks: Plaza Grande, Plaza San Francisco, the Presidential Palace, La Basílica, La Ronda, and centuries-old churches from the Spanish colonial era — the living heart of Quito's UNESCO World Heritage historic center.
Also at Plaza San Francisco is a station on Quito's brand new Metro — modern, clean, safe, and just $0.45 per ride ($0.22 for children and seniors). It connects the historic center to destinations across the city quickly and easily.
For those traveling with children, Parque Itchimbia is a short drive or taxi ride away — a hilltop park with sweeping city views, a playground, sports fields, walking and cycling paths, and restaurants with a view. Honestly, it's a great outing with or without kids.
And if you're looking for an unforgettable dinner, Vista Hermosa is just blocks away — a rooftop restaurant with 360-degree views of the city. It holds a special place in our hearts: it's where we got married.
Whether you're visiting for a week or settling in for an extended stay, our home in San Marcos offers the space, comfort, location, and character to make your time in Quito truly memorable.

About the host
Hosted by Shawn & Diana Abramson
Hi, we're Shawn, Diana, and Jack. Diana was born and raised in Ecuador, and Shawn has traveled here more than 45 times over the years. Safe to say, we know this country, this city, and this neighborhood about as well as anyone can.
Our home in San Marcos is a place we truly love; it's a special place to us. We spend a month or two there each year, and when we're not there, we love knowing that guests from around the world are enjoying it. For us, hosting is less of a transaction and more of an extension of our hospitality. We want guests to feel like they've landed somewhere comfortable, safe, and well taken care of — not just somewhere to sleep.
We're also happy to be a resource. Whether you need a restaurant recommendation around the corner, advice on getting around the city, a trusted driver, or tips on day trips outside of Quito, we enjoy helping guests make the most of their time here. Ecuador has a way of surprising people, and we love playing a small part in that experience.
Don't hesitate to reach out before or during your stay. We're responsive, we're friendly, and we're invested in making your trip a great one.

Why they chose this property
San Marcos is the kind of neighborhood that strikes a balance that's hard to come by — quiet and residential, but with everything you need right outside the door.
Safety and tranquility were big factors for us. Calle Junín is a calm, unhurried street where families have lived for generations. There's a sense of community here that you feel immediately, and it makes for a relaxing place to come home to after a day of exploring the city.
And there's plenty to explore, without ever going far. The street has its own charm — restaurants, coffee and dessert spots, art galleries, antique shops, artisan workshops, a historic church, and small bodegas stocked with everything you'd need for an extended stay. It's walkable, approachable, and full of character.
What makes the location particularly special is the proximity to Quito's Centro Histórico. Within a 5 to 10-minute walk, you're standing in front of some of the most significant colonial landmarks in all of the Americas — Plaza Grande, Plaza San Francisco, the Presidential Palace, La Basílica, and centuries-old churches from the Spanish Colonial Era that make up the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world.
And for getting around the rest of the city, Quito's new Metro has a station right there at Plaza San Francisco — modern, safe, and just $0.45 a ride.

What makes this property unique
A lot of properties can offer a good location. Fewer can offer the combination of space, character, and practical amenities that this one has.
The building itself is something special — a former Spanish Colonial school, beautifully preserved, with a tranquil central courtyard that gives the complex a sense of calm you wouldn't expect in the heart of a capital city. It's the kind of place where you step inside and immediately feel removed from the noise of the outside world.
The apartment is spacious in a way that actually matters. Three large bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and room to spread out comfortably — whether you're traveling as a couple, a family, or a group. Having 3.5 bathrooms for up to seven guests is a detail that sounds small until you're living in a space, and it makes all the difference.
The private garage is another thing that sets this property apart. A dedicated, secure parking space is not something you'll find easily in the historic center, and for guests arriving with a vehicle or renting one, it removes a real headache.
And unlike many rentals that sacrifice comfort for location, this one doesn't ask you to choose. The rooms are large, the building is quiet, and the courtyard gives the whole property a sense of peace that makes it feel like a true retreat — not just a place to leave your luggage.
