About the host

Your host

Host profile image
We’re a family of builders, carpenters, and artists who moved to the Ozarks from Texas after running a masonry company for 40 years. These days, we’re laid-back lake folks who enjoy neighborly chats, small-town life, and the slower pace that comes with living on the edge of paradise. When we found Idle Awhile Cabin just down the road from our own home, we pounced on the opportunity to turn it into something incredible. Since 2021, we’ve poured our hearts into restoring it—reclaiming original oak and cedar, hand-crafting furniture, and honoring its heritage. We’re excited to share this piece of history with you and hope you’ll feel the same love and care that went into every board and beam.

Why they chose this property

This corner of the Ozarks is breathtaking—and the people here make it even more special. Neighbors are kind, welcoming, and always ready with a smile. Each season offers its own magic: summers are made for swimming, fishing, and lazy days on the lake. Autumn sets the hillsides ablaze with spectacular color, best enjoyed from the front porch. Winters are mild, with an occasional dusting of snow to make the woods feel hushed and cozy. Spring brings wildflowers, budding trees, and the waterfalls that make the Ozarks famous. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in nature, wildlife, and community year-round.

What makes this property unique

Idle Awhile Cabin isn’t just a rental—it’s a restored piece of American frontier history. Built in the late 1800s, its bones still carry the craftsmanship of early settlers. We preserved that legacy while adding modern comfort, creating a space that feels both timeless and welcoming. Beyond its history, the cabin offers rare amenities designed to make your stay exceptional:
• Lake access with excellent fishing less than a mile away
• Luxury finishes throughout the cabin
• A huge outdoor play area perfect for families
• Private hiking trails and abundant wildlife
• Kayaks available at your convenience
We’ve thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable, relaxing, and luxurious as possible. And if there’s something you’re missing, we’re right down the road to help out!
