About this property

Sleepy Bear Lodge. Fire Pit + Starter Wood + Fast Starlink Wi-Fi + Full Kitchen.

Welcome to Sleepy Bear Lodge, a secluded mountain cabin tucked into the woods of Topton, North Carolina. This peaceful retreat blends rustic charm with modern comfort, offering families, couples, or small groups a relaxing escape into nature.

The cabin sleeps up to 10 guests, housing a spacious master loft with a king sized bed and futon, two guest bedrooms with queen beds, and a pull-out couch in the living room. Whether you’re gathered around the indoor fireplace or enjoying a starry evening by the outdoor fire pit, the Sleepy Bear Lodge is designed for rest, warmth, and connection.

We provide a starter bundle of firewood for your stay—perfect for a cozy evening or two around the fire pit.
If you’d like more, feel free to help yourself from the main stack out back. Each additional bundle is $10, using the honor system. Just send us a quick message and we’ll add it to your stay.

A full kitchen with new appliances makes group meals easy, and there are TVs in both the master loft and living area for your entertainment. The TVs are streaming only, so guests can log in with their own accounts. The cabin is also equipped with Starlink WiFi—the fastest and most reliable internet available in the area—making it ideal for remote work, streaming, or simply staying connected. It’s a major upgrade over the limited or spotty internet access found in most other cabins nearby.

Step outside and explore multiple seating areas, from covered and uncovered decks to a woodland retreat space with rustic seating—ideal for morning coffee or quiet reflection. There is even an open air Gazebo with a dining table and chairs that will add to the natural beauty and tranquility to any of meal.

The cabin includes Two full bathrooms: one in the loft and one on the main floor, offering convenience for everyone in your group.

Sleepy Bear Lodge is located just a short drive or hike from Queens Lake, a peaceful destination for fishing, paddling, or lakeside picnics. You’ll be within 25 minutes of Lake Nantahala and Boat rentals at Lakes End Marina, 30 minutes from white water rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, and minutes from multiple entrances to the Appalachian and the Bartram Trails, making it a perfect basecamp for hiking, exploring, and experiencing the best of Western North Carolina.

Additional Information:

- There is no landline at the cabin, and depending on your cell carrier, service can be a bit limited in the area. We recommend turning on Wi-Fi calling before you arrive so you can stay connected during your stay. Don’t worry—the cabin has fast and reliable Starlink WiFi to keep everything running smoothly.

- The road to the cabin is gravel with a slight incline. While 4WD isn’t required, it’s recommended—especially during rainy weather. Most vehicles do just fine, though front-wheel drive cars may need to take it slow or back up the final stretch of the driveway. Just go easy, and you’ll be fine!

This was a great cabin, I would give them a try, the management was great & we had all we needed and enjoyed ourselves. It is secluded. There are awesome waterfalls nearby. The fire pit is on the porch so we enjoyed making s’mores. They had plenty of games and supplies. WiFi was good. No complaints at all. The reason we did 4 stars vs 5 is there are a couple of items to be mindful of--a 4wheel drive is recommended, even after trying the back in approach mentioned in the listing our Honda van could not make it to the top of the driveway so the walk to take things in was tough. It also has steep stairs to the doors so be mindful of that when packing. You should also be aware there are camera's throughout the property outside so you need to be comfortable with that. It seemed to have one inside as well so we just turned that one up. If you’re comfortables with cameras around and in decent shape to carry everything in, I would highly recommend this cabin for your next getaway as we really did enjoy ourselves other than those couple items.

They take great pride in maintaining the cabin and creating a peaceful, welcoming space for every guest. Whether you’re here to disconnect, explore, or make family memories, Ian and Diane are committed to making sure your stay is comfortable, clean, and easy from start to finish.

They’re supported by their son Stephen and daughter-in-law Erika, who help co-host the property. Erika was born and raised in the area and has personally hiked the entire North Carolina portion of the Bartram Trail, making her an excellent resource for guests looking to explore the region’s best hiking and scenic views.

Stephen and Erika have over a decade of experience in managing vacation rentals and other hospitality attractions for guests in the area. They have a passion for the area and spend their time fishing in the local lakes and rivers, hiking mountain trails, exploring nearby towns and breweries, and snowboarding in the winter months. Their firsthand knowledge and experiences give guests access to unique and genuine information that other hosts in the area cannot provide. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure or hidden local gems they’re happy to offer recommendations and tips to help make your stay as memorable and immersive as possible.

Why they chose this property

We chose this location for its quiet beauty, forested surroundings, and close proximity to so many outdoor adventures. Whether it’s hiking the Bartram Trail, boating on Nantahala Lake, fishing nearby streams, or just sitting by the fire pit listening to the breeze through the trees—Sleepy Bear Lodge offers the perfect escape from the noise of daily life. It’s close enough to enjoy the best of Western North Carolina, yet tucked away enough to truly unplug.

What makes this property unique

Sleepy Bear Lodge is a private mountain getaway designed for comfort, relaxation, and quality time with family and friends. The cabin sleeps 10 and features thoughtful amenities that make it stand out—from the high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi and Roku-enabled TVs to the fully stocked kitchen with updated appliances.

Outside, guests can enjoy a large covered deck, a cozy fire pit area, and a charming gazebo with seating—perfect for outdoor dining or morning coffee in the trees. The cabin is surrounded by forest, offering a peaceful setting with plenty of privacy, yet it’s still conveniently located near hiking trails, waterfalls, and Nantahala Lake.

One of the area’s best-kept secrets is Queen’s Lake—just a short drive away. It’s a quiet, lesser-known spot that’s perfect for a peaceful paddle or afternoon picnic without the crowds you’ll find at larger lakes.

It’s a home that’s been lovingly cared for by our family, and we’ve done our best to make it feel like a true retreat—clean, well-equipped, and ready for unforgettable mountain memories.
