NEXT - the Story …

WHERE DOES ALL THAT WATER COME FROM? I am so often left wondering.

THE SETTING. It's all about the creek! Private, soothing and relaxing is how our guests always describe Rushing Waters Cabin, a 1200 square foot rustic cabin sitting just feet from a rushing, meandering creek -- in a MAGNIFICENT SETTING! The boulder-strewn creek borders the heavily-wooded 1-acre lot for 250 feet. If you're at the cabin after a good rain you'll enjoy a roaring creek and small waterfalls rushing over the boulders - amazing. The cabin is strategically sited where you get the best view of the creek from the whole living area. If you have never stayed creekside - this is the way to go -- creek runs right next to cabin and you hear it rushing ALL THE TIME -- so relaxing! Mother nature’s lullaby. Lots to see in the area but plan to spend time at the cabin to enjoy the creek ... it will call to you. .

EVERYONES FAVORITE SPOTS. Everyone raves about the screened sleeping porch, sitting right on the creek. It’s a favorite spot to enjoy the views and sounds of the creek, with its comfy futon and gas fireplace. I love having my hot morning coffee out there, wrapped in a blanket, sitting fireside on a cold morning. Or spending an afternoon reading a book there. Definitely the best spot to take in the magic around you, regardless of the weather.

There’s also the comfy window seat that opens up to the sleeping porch and also overlooks the creek. Or the comfy leather sofa in the living area, with its huge stacked-stone, wood-burning fireplace.

The creek is lit so you can enjoy it in the evenings. There is also an outdoor firepit to enjoy a cozy fire off the deck and an outdoor dining area overlooking the creek. Gas barbecue too.

THE FOREST. The cabin is located amongst a forest of tall trees and is heavily shaded creekside. Many of the trees are 50 feet tall or more. We have lots of rhodos and azaleas blooming from May on. So even in the winter there will be the green of the rhodos all around you. The creekside is usually cool. Because of the creek and our elevation (about 1500 feet) it’s always cooler here - even in summer.

THE CABIN. We recently painted the exterior and decks - cabin looks beautiful. New laminate floors throughout home; carpet in bedrooms. The cabin is rustic, with cedar tongue and groove throughout, giving it the cozy, lodge feel you envision for a 'mountain cabin.' Modern open--plan living area, large living--dining area, massive stone wood fireplace. Executive lodgings with rusic appeal. Cabin is decorated with style and comfort in mind (not grandmas's plaid sofa).

In the open living area you will find a comfy leather sofa and huge club chair - softest leather ever - relax with a view of the creek thru the sliding doors, the fire roaring on the stone fireplace and a good movie on the tv. Or lay out on 8-foot window seat that overlooks the creek. Indoor dining seats 4-6 and outdoor dining seats 6. Cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and sleeps 4 in beds: the master bedroom has a king bed with a full bath, plus an electric fireplace; the second bedroom has a queen bed. Quality beds are comfortable. Window seat can sleep 2 small kids (probably not the best for adults). Full -size futon (with a real mattress) on the screened sleeping porch is available for those who want to sleep and “glamp' by the creek..

Fully-equipped kitchen. Pod and regular coffeemaker. Air-fryer/convection oven. Central air and heat. Washer/dryer. Alexa. Lots of blankets and cushions. Games, cards, puzzles and books too. All the comforts of home. Our guests always comment on how we have 'everything'!

WIFI; Flat screen HD TVs available in the living room and both bedrooms. We cut the cable and all tvs are on Roku streaming. Or bring your fire stick or other streaming device. *** CELL PHONE and all its features should work on WiFi calling setting.

PETS ALLOWED. We welcome your dogs. We charge a 1-time pet cleaning fee, that's it. We love our new floors - please cut your pup’s claws b4 you arrive. No cats - they scratched the leather furniture). And not to worry --- home is aired out regularly and super clean - smells fresh and clean. No mustiness or pet odor.

Small children are OK but you MUST supervise them at all times.

FINALLY - NEARBY ATTRACTIONS.

Plan on a few days at the cabin. But if you want to get out and sightsee there are so many beautiful places and wonderful mountain experiences waiting for you here in the Lake Chatuge area! You have to do Hiawassee - amazing lake town - 15-20 minutes away.

CASINO opened in Murphy - about 25 minutes away.

LAKE CHATUGE, the Jewel of the Mountains, is undoubtedly the most beautiful lake in the mountain area. It provides ample opportunities for waterside dining and excellent fishing and boating (boat and water toy rentals available). (15 minutes)

The great lakeside town of HIAWASSEE GA, with its beautiful views of Lake Chatuge, its lakeside restaurants and its funky shops (15-20 minutes)

The picturesque alpine village of HELEN GA with lots of nice dining, bars and shopping, plus tubing on the river in summer.(30-40 minutes)

HIAWASSEE RIVER where you can tube or kayak down the lazy river

Excellent FISHING on Lake Chatuge (its stocked) and Tuni Creek nearby.

GOLF at one of the beautiful mountain golf courses nearby -- The Ridges, Chatuge Shores or Brasstown Resort (5-25 minutes).

Not to mention, horseback riding, hiking trails, and great mountain and antique shopping.

DAY TRIPS. Great homebase location to explore the area. Other nearby cities include Asheville, Lake Lure, Gatlinburg, Cherokee, Highlands, Chimney Rock and Atlanta - most 1-2 hours away. . . Whitewater rafting and stunning waterfalls nearby too. Plan to stay awhile … there’s so much to do !

HOW TO GET HERE. Fly into Atlanta or Asheville and rent a car for a scenic 2 1/2-hour drive to the cabin. You can also come in through Tennessee or Asheville.

Fantastic Cabin

The cabin was very nice. Stocked with everything you would normally have at home. It even had a Cuban coffee pot. The creek was really nice. Everything was better than in the add. We both loved the area so much we are now looking for something near by.

Beautiful Creekside Cabin

We celebrated our 30th anniversary and the creekside cabin was the perfect place to relax and spend time with our family. The cabin was clean, comfortable and stocked with all the amenities. The only downside was the Wi-Fi did not work when it rained and was very slow and spotty even when it wasn’t. Besides that everything was wonderful!

A slice of heaven

I havent slept so well since i was a teenager. The cabin is attractive and well equipped; I was continually surprised at how anything we needed was available. The setting is absolutely gorgeous and the constant sound of rushing water so relaxing. Very clean and comfortable. We have already booked a return visit. Its astonishing how much Hayesville has to offer for a town its size. The cabin is about 15 to 20 minutes out of town with a nostalgic country drive through rural farmland and an historic community.

Disappointing (dirty, broken, dark, moldy)

Although the stream is truly lovely, the inside of the cabin is unpleasant. It is very dark and has a strong odor of mold. We also found that is was not clean or well cared for. Most notably, the dishwasher was broken and there was a leg missing on the king bed. We left 5 days early.

Fantastic weekend

When we arrived to the cabin it had begun to snow, but only flurries. We did as instructed and got some firewood and a few things to eat at Ingles. This was the nicest and biggest grocery store we had seen in some time. Once at the cabin, we were so pleased with the remoteness of the cabin, but the stream that runs feet from the cabin is breathtaking. We immediately fell in love with this place and the serenity it gives you. If you are looking for time to spend with your partner of family, devoid of electronics, this is the place for you, You are only a few miles from Murphy, Blairesville, Hiawasse and the Lake. And if you want to drive to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, it a couple hours drive (beautiful mountain drive) away. We will definitely be making this a vacation destination again.

Wonderful Remote Retreat

Staying at this property was truly a much needed gift to ourselves. It was far enough away to feel remote but close enough to town to never feel inconvenienced by travel. The rushing water behind the cabin was cathartic beyond words. It truly felt like a home away from home with all of the amenities throughout the cabin. The kitchen was well-equipped for any and all of our cooking needs, the beds were comfortable, and the living room space was a cozy and comfortable area to lounge around. Our favorite spaces were the screened-in porch and the deck outside the sliding door. Hayesville and the surrounding areas made for enjoyable excursions, but we were just as content sitting on the deck listening to the sounds of nature. Communication with the property manager was always prompt and clear, and we felt incredibly well-informed about the property's policies and procedures. Thank you for sharing this amazing space with us.

Nice quiet peaceful cabin on a mountain stream. Fairly secluded, no stray dogs showed up which is good because our dog is not pet-friendly. She loved the creek and the cooler weather. Would stay here again in the future.

Beautiful rustic cabin, the creek was beautiful, fun area for us to hang out with a dog! She loved running and exploring!!! Seen some cool animals under rocks while looking for minerals and rocks! It rained everyday we were there but that never bothered us or our relaxing time!! The owner is super nice and helpful! The internet is iffy so if you want that it may be an issue but that was the least of our concerns and worries. The area is beautiful and Lake Chatuge is beautiful also!

Maximum relaxation

This property is located on a babbling brook in the NC mountains. It’s perfect for those who want to get away from harried life. Just sit on the creek front porch with a good book and relax. It is an older property, but is very clean and has a well equipped kitchen.Pro tip, after you input the door code, press pound! (#)

35th Anniversary get away

My wife ask for our 35th wedding anniversary to get away somewhere that was secluded away from the busy world we live in. She really wanted a cabin on a creek so she could relax and listen to the running water. This house checked all the boxes. We really enjoyed our time at this home. I really have nothing negative to say about this house. The only thing that we would change was the king size bed was very hard. Which a lot of people enjoy a firm bed but it was a little hard for us old people. But this is a great home and we had no problems will worth the money.

About the host

Host profile image
This is our second home and mountain getaway. We gladly share this very special place and experience with our wonderful guests. The satisfaction and comfort of our guest is a priority. We live in Miami and cherish little more than our time spent at our creekside mountain getaway and are always sad to leave.

Why they chose this property

After weeks of internet searches and days of viewing properties in the area in 2007 we found this incredible property and instantly fell in love with its rustic cedar interior, enchanted setting and the amazing creek, which rushes just feet off the house, unlike any other home we had seen. We added a stone wood-burning fireplace, moved the gas fireplace out to the sleeping porch and installed a window seat for additional comfort and charm.

What makes this property unique

The creek is amazing. It was a quiet creek when we first bought it but soon discovered how it changes after a strong rain, becoming almost torrential, as it cascades along its path. So hope for rain when you are there, so you can enjoy the creek at its best.
