Craigslist Scam Alert: Please be aware that scammers are listing this property on Craigslist. The Oceanview House in Bolinas can only be rented on VRBO and Homeaway.
This charming and historic multi-family beach home is perched above the ocean with amazing views of the coastline, surf break, and lights of San Francisco.
With 5 bedrooms and private parking for 3 cars, this spacious home has enough room to comfortably fit 10 people. The upstairs features a master bedroom with a king bed and ocean views. The second upstairs bedroom features a queen bed within earshot of the crashing waves. The downstairs includes three bedrooms - 2 with queen beds and 1 with a bunk bed. In total there are 2 full bathrooms (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs), and half bathroom downstairs as well as a laundry room, 2nd living room / hang out space and spacious 2nd eat-in kitchen downstairs. Hear the ocean from every room in the house. The main living room with vast views overlooking the ocean is upstairs.
While removed from the traffic and pedestrian noise of downtown, it's only a 5 minute walk to the main beach due to a staircase shortcut. VRBOs mapping says its 16 minutes but its is much faster with the shortcut. 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk to downtown.
While the home's size and quiet neighborhood set it apart, it's really all about the stunning ocean views from the bright and sunny upper living room, the deck, and private lawn. The deck has plenty of seating and a gas grill. The large bright living room is lined with ocean-view windows, has a cozy wood-burning fireplace, and comfortable furniture. The private yard is perfect for an afternoon picnic or letting the kids run around.
We are dedicated to making sure our guests enjoy their stay as much as we do and we take pride in our 5 star rating. The home is older and rustic much like most of the homes in Bolinas, but it's immaculate, the beds are comfortable and it is stocked with everything needed for a fun and relaxing vacation.
We care deeply about our home and our neighbors and ask that you book elsewhere unless you are responsible and respectful of both. We have strict rules in place to keep everyone honest.
About Bolinas: Explore the best sleepy beach town in Northern California with more flavor and character than most combined. The house is minutes to the local market, The Coast Cafe (delicious farm to table organic cuisine), Smileys bar (one of the oldest bars in Marin) which features live music every weekend, shops, galleries featuring local artists, and a tennis court that is open to the public on a first come first serve basis.
Excerpt from Marin Independent Journal: Bolinas is an unincorporated town of 2500 located 30 miles North of San Francisco at the southernmost tip of the Point Reyes National Seashore, surrounded by ocean and well-preserved parkland. Long known for its live and let live attitude, this spirited community of environmentalists, poets, surfers, artists, writers, and aging individualists doesn't have a mayor or a city hall, but its breathtaking scenery, rare wildlife, easy-to-surf waves make Bolinas a perfect destination for weekenders to find a quiet getaway, explore nature, and experience one of California's most culturally unique communities. Just a short drive away is the town of Point Reyes Station and the many local, and amazing oyster farms.

The house is incredibly cozy and well kept. Kitchen is seemingly new with great appliances and everything you’d need. Water jugs with filters in the fridge were a plus. Views are incredible and the deck provides a perfect space to enjoy the sunny weather. One of the sinks had an issue draining, but the host was super quick to get someone over to fix it. Very easy to communicate with and prompt in the problem solving. Overall, a great stay! We were very comfortable.
My extended family had a wonderful time at this great home. Host communications and responsiveness were commendably good. Location is terrific, a short walk to beach and town. Views from living / dining room and deck are fabulous. House was clean and very comfortable. Some unusual features — e.g., main kitchen and dining room are not adjacent; microwave inconveniently located; thermostat not easy to operate (at least for us) — but none that detracted from our enjoyment. We would be glad for the opportunity to stay here again!
Great house, accommodated 10 of us ages 2-70, we brought our own portacribs. Great views, hear the ocean, walk down to beach, tide pools close by, nightly bbq’s, tennis/pickle court, funky town w a market, Coast Cafe great pizzas, bar n hippie shops. Fun for all!
The views and location can’t be beat - the living area looks right over the Pacific Ocean. We were able to walk to and from the beach and town multiple times a day.
This unit is very spacious with incredible views! The deck is perfect for morning coffee or sunset glass of wine. There is a large yard with a "shortcut" down to the beach. We were 3 families traveling together and it really worked out perfectly to be together but the unit was large enough that everyone could enjoy their own space when needed. The owners are kind and responsive. They even have items if traveling with a toddler/children (books, a pack n play, games, etc). Don't hesitate to book this property!
The house functioned very well for our large group. The living room and deck were spectacular rooms to hang out in and quite spacious. Plenty of bedrooms and space downstairs. The house has a classic Bolinas funky charm which we loved. The upstairs kitchen is small and challenging to use for a large group.

Beautiful View - Convenient location!
House was great, just as pictured and funky/kitschy as you'd expect in a Bolinas house. :) Beds were comfortable, the only request would be deck furniture to be able to enjoy the gorgeous view more easily. :)

Annemarie, Thanks for your comment about the deck furniture. It takes a beating every year out in the salt air. Shortly after your review we upgraded the deck furniture. There are now 2 comfortable chaise lounge chairs, six deck chairs and an umbrella.. With the benches built in to the deck there is plenty of hang out space for everyone! Check out the updated photos for a good visual.
I wish I could live at this house. The view of the ocean is spectacular and there was every possible thing we could need there. The bedrooms were comfortable and there was lots of room for our daughters, stepdaughters and their children. It was an easy walk to town. We loved the way the house was laid out and two kitchens was such a treat. We celebrated both a 70th birthday and Father's Day and it was wonderful.
Fun, casual, quirky beach house with fabulous views.
We had a great stay here. It’s an old beach house in a quiet neighborhood with an amazing ocean view. A short walk to a great beach for beginning surfers and children. Just so beautiful. Older, roomy, two-story house with some recent upgrades and a few things that could use an upgrade. It’s obvious that the family loves this home and is working hard to keep it modern, comfortable, and welcoming. Comfortable beds with nice linens. We appreciated the extra boogie boards and beach umbrellas. It needs a new coffee maker upstairs and downstairs, and upgraded or cleaned deck chairs. This place is fun and relaxing and our family had a wonderful time!
It's a short walk to the beach and the view from the deck is stunning!
This was my husband's 80th birthday bash with our two daughters, their spouses, and 4 "kids" - ages 5.5, 11, 11, and 16. We needed separate bedrooms to accommodate age and sleep needs plus space to have 10 of us at the same table for meals. And this space covered all of those needs plus 2 kitchen areas; we used one to store and refrigerate the extra food and one to prep and cook that day's food. I cannot emphasize the need to bring adequate groceries (there were lots of spices so I would not have needed to pack as much dry spices as I did) as the pickings in Bolinas are spare but there is a very well stocked and " pricey" store in Point Reyes Station. The view is amazing. The walk to the beach is easy. And there are beach friendly towels and chairs to drag down with you. Communication with the hosts was a plus when I had one question on lighting. I give this a high 5 for a group of this size with multiple needs for eating, sleeping and r and r.

Beautiful view.
This house is spacious and has a beautiful view. We experienced 5 deer right outside our place. Getting up in the morning and seeing the beautiful ocean was awesome. Location is a surfer's dream. Lots of raccoons. One came right to our upper balcony door. This property is old and does need some work. We had several issues that we were compensated for.

We always strive for 5 star reviews and are so disappointed to receive a 3 star review this time. It is not the norm as you can see from every other review. This house is in the countryside where wildlife is prevalent. In addition to racoons, there are deer, foxes and beautiful sea birds all around the area. We can't do anything about that. We don't hide anything about our property. It is older but immaculate, inviting, and very comfortable with one of the best views in Bolinas. In reference to the "work that needs to be done" I believe this is related to the back yard. Our gardener flew the coup (tough in beach towns) but we immediately rehired another one and addressed the overgrown lawn. We offered to come out while they were there, but they said it wasn't a big deal. There were other minor issues such as crumbs in the couch cushions and we responded in a timely manner and made it right with the renter. We can't please everybody, but we certainly tried with this renter. Hopefully the reviews AFTER this one, illustrate how special our property is.
It is hard to express how much we loved staying at this property! The house is extremely welcoming and comfortable. We felt right at home the second we walked through the door. Listening to the ocean throughout the day and while falling asleep was a dream. We spent many hours on the deck reading and taking in the views. The small town laid back feel was contagious! We took advantage of the local restaurants and stores, all within walking distance. We also explored Muir Woods and rode the bus to Stinson Beach during our stay. Our daughter even took surf lessons at Bolinas Beach. The drive from San Francisco is spectacular, and being surrounded by mountains and the ocean is quite a treat. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return someday soon. Many thanks to our hosts!
Amazing deck and view. Very comfortable beds. Kitchen is well stocked, though I would bring my own knives; spices available. Very lovely veggie stand around the corner on Olema Bolinas; otherwise best veggies at the Organic market. Coffee Kiosk--THE BEST!! Close to beach--walk down short road to road--steps to the right. Roads are narrow--drivers of larger vehicles be alert! This is a lovely place for large groups--we had our 8 camino peeps with us. Enjoyed the fireplace--one night's wood provided and more purchased at market in town. Town is very walkable and fun to explore. Smiley's is great. People are very friendly. Downsides: the dryer was not working so we had to use the laundrymat---0.3 miles away; annoying. Electric went out after a storm; apparently electrical outages are fairly common, especially in winter. There were not sufficient supplies to deal with this event. We charged our phones in the car so we could use the "flashlight" feature. There were a couple of flashlights but not very bright. HOWEVER, a wonderful neighbor we had met earlier stopped by with candles that lit up the room and provided a great ambiance. There is a third shower in the smallest bathroom--though it needs repairs; it would have been really nice to have this available. Bathroom carpets not in bathrooms--though we later found them in a cabinet upstairs by living room. It would have been REALLY nice to have the dryer because towels don't dry well in the damp environment.

Thanks for your kind review and so happy that you enjoyed your stay. The dryer going out was terrible timing. It happened right before your stay and we tried to have it replaced before you arrived. Unfortunately, the box stores didn't have any dryers available in store for us to pick up and bring out. Apparently, they now ship to store so we just couldn't get it to you in time. We did inform you about this in advance and provide a discount for the inconvenience but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. As for the power outage, we have only had a couple renters in the last 10 years that had to deal with prolonged outages that can happen. We do provide flashlights and battery-operated candles for safety reasons, but we will do a thorough inventory and make sure that they are sufficient and in working order. The flashlights seem to disappear more often than we would like, but we inventory often and try to stay on it. Thanks for the valuable feedback so we can continue to offer the best experience for our guests!

It’s was fine but not great
The overall experience was just ok. Coming into the stay our expectations were high based on the rental costs. The hosts were responsive, the checkin/checkout process were as expected. The house seemed like it had been cleaned but not used recently. Lots of spider webs, few dead bugs and even an outlet that had ants coming out of it. The main floor bathroom seemed recently remodeled but most of the rest of the house is dated. We named the the property “the house of a thousand doors”. Lots of double door/walk thru to rooms, rooms within rooms. The basement bathroom was a struggle to use with the lack of water pressure and even has a door that’s caulked shut. Its clear that the property was multiple rentals that are combined into one. It just wasn’t done with much thought. Maybe being from the Midwest our expectations were too high for the California prices. We wouldn’t stay at this property again if given the option.
