About this property
Charming 3BR cabin close to wineries, Shenandoah National Park, Massanutten,UVA
"Hibernation Hideaway" is your home away from home. This cozy cabin is situated on Saddleback Mountain surrounded by woods and hiking trails. You can enjoy stunning mountain and valley views after the leaves have fallen, as well as beautiful green wooded views during spring and summer. The cabin is located 1.5 miles up the mountain along a gravel road. While a 4x4 vehicle is not required, please note that the road is bumpy and narrow, making it unsuitable for low sports cars.
Once you arrive, you can relax while enjoying a glass of wine by one of two fire pits, lounging in a rocking chair or swing on the covered front porch, or unwinding on the screened-in back porch, which features a small electric fireplace that blows warm air, and a Roku TV. If you have kids, they will love it here! They can enjoy playing basketball on the basketball pad, or climbing up the small treehouse in the woods. There's also a "game room" upstairs with kid-sized furniture and a variety of board games and card games for adults and kids.
Hibernation Hideaway features a fully stocked kitchen with all the essentials, including several spices, olive oil, crock pot, Instant Pot, air fryer, blender, waffle maker & electric skillet. For the grill masters, there is a gas grill on the back deck! There is a fully stocked coffee bar ready for your enjoyment. All linens for beds are provided. Towels and washcloths are provided for your stay as well.
The downstairs master features a queen bed and a half bath, while another downstairs bedroom has a full bed. The upstairs bedroom includes a queen bed with a small balcony. All bedrooms come with clean, quality linens, pillows, and quilts. The cabin has 1.5 bathrooms stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Additionally, a washer and dryer are available for your convenience.
Every bedroom and family room, and even the screened-in porch have Roku Tv's, allowing you to log into your personal streaming accounts. There is an excellent internet connection for those who need to stay connected, and a small workstation available if you need to work or browse the internet. (Don't forget to bring your laptop!) There is a strong 5G phone network available (T-Mobile), but we cannot guarantee service for other carriers.
Several wineries nearby offer fantastic views and wines, allowing you to create your own "wine trail". Massanutten Ski Resort is a 40-minute drive and offers snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding, and a year-round inside water park. (Please check hours of operation during seasons) Downtown Charlottesville is a 55-minute drive away and offers plenty of shopping and sight-seeing. Sports fans will enjoy the accessible UVA Scott Stadium, also a 55-minute drive away. You are also only a 25-minute drive to the lovely Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Lydia Mountain Lodge/Bearrr Appetit Restaurant is just a short 20-minute drive for delicious home cooked meals, especially breakfast!
Downtown Stanardsville is quaint and features a few excellent restaurants, a fantastic coffee shop, a small grocery, and a pharmacy. This charming town is steeped in history and even has a little museum to explore. You'll find numerous antique shops in the surrounding towns. Ruckersville, a larger area, features Walmart, Lowe's, larger chain grocery stores, and fast-food options, all just a 25-minute drive away.
Hibernation Hideaway may not be "fancy", but it is cozy, comfortable, and welcoming. Please keep in mind that you're in the mountains and woods, where bugs can be present during different seasons. They may try to enter the cabin from time to time, especially if doors are left open. We have a seasonal exterminator who sprays for unwanted insects, but you may see one or two, especially on the screened-in porch. Additionally, there are full-time residents on the mountain, so please be courteous! IMPORTANT REMINDER: NO SMOKING INSIDE THE CABIN! Enjoy the serene views and solitude of Hibernation Hideaway! You probably won't want to leave!
