From the moment you descend the beautiful stone stairway from the driveway, you’ll be captivated by the sweeping views over Coral Bay, the East End of St. John, and the distant British Virgin Islands. The scene is postcard-perfect—bright red lounge chairs, lush tropical greenery, and the endless blues of the Caribbean Sea.

The villa’s contemporary design features two separate buildings centered around your private pool and hot tub. On one side, the main house welcomes you with a fully equipped kitchen, inviting living and dining areas, and a half bath. A covered deck runs the entire length of the main house, offering shaded lounging with unforgettable vistas. On the other side of the pool, a staircase leads down to a second building with three stylish guest bedrooms. The fourth bedroom, is tucked beneath the main house for added privacy.

LOCATION: Summerwind is located in one of St. John’s most private and unspoiled areas—just a quarter-mile off Centerline Road on Bordeaux Mountain, the island’s highest peak. At roughly 1,000 feet above sea level, the villa offers clothing-optional privacy and sweeping views that stretch from Sandy Key to Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and beyond.

LIVING & DINING: The air-conditioned great room is warm and inviting, with marble floors, cathedral ceilings, and sophisticated island-inspired furnishings. Large screened sliding glass doors open to the covered deck, where plush seating invites you to savor the ocean views. For entertainment, enjoy a flat-screen TV with Roku streaming, DVD player, and a stereo with CD and internet access.

Dining options abound—choose between the indoor dining table (seating 6–8) or the outdoor table for 4 on the covered deck, both with breathtaking panoramas as your backdrop.

KITCHEN: The sleek, modern kitchen is fully equipped with a 4-burner gas stove and oven, a refrigerator/freezer, an ultra light water filtration system, dishwasher, microwave, blender, coffee maker, toaster, and all the essentials to prepare anything from casual breakfasts to gourmet dinners. A gas grill is available on the deck, and a laundry room with washer/dryer ensures convenience during your stay.

BEDROOMS: Each of Summerwind’s four bedrooms are air-conditioned, fully screened, and features a private tiled bath. Master Bedroom – King bed, spacious layout, marble floors, cathedral ceiling, elegant décor, marble-tiled bath with and indoor shower, and a romantic stone outdoor shower. Two of the guest bedrooms are on the lower level, each includes a king bed and ensuite bathroom with tiled shower. Incredible family vacation!!

Most wonderful family vacation!!! We spent a week being spoiled by this incredible home with breathtaking views. The amenities in the home are five star -- we slept well on incredibly comfortable beds and enjoyed family time by the pool and in the gorgeous gourmet kitchen and family room. The home is located perfectly for access to everything St. John has to offer. Thrilled to have had the chance to enjoy this incredible home with our extended family. We cannot wait to return to St. John and will most certainly stay at Summerwinds again!!!

Perfect week! Great Views!

Beautiful serene setting on Bordeaux Mountain with easy access to Coral Bay. Gorgeous sunrises, great breeze and relaxing nightly sounds of the rainforest. The pictures on the listing don’t fully capture the beauty of the property and the awe inspiring views of the British VIs. Just to note, all of the bedrooms are only accessible from separate exterior doors. Great for us but worth noting.

Heaven in the Carribean

If you're looking for a lovely home with outstanding views, accommodations, and location, this is the home for you! As first-timers on the island, we found it to be an easy commute from Cruz Bay and so close to all the great beaches. 5-10 min to our favorite, Maho Bay and then Cinnamon, Trunk, Hawksnest, etc. are all in a string from there...we hit all them multiple times. It was also a short drive to Coral Bay and the south shore beaches, which are less crowded and just as beautiful. Oh, the house has fabulous sunrises each and every day, I enjoyed all with coffee in hand on the deck. We also loved that it was secluded, no neighbors to you right, yet close to everything...the prefect balance. Pool was refreshingly delightful and the perfect temp as the sun hits it all day...star gazing from the hot tub was a celestial treat. I'd stay at Summerwind again in a heartbeat.

Awesome views

This property has a superb location - views, breezes, seclusion, access. While the master bedroom was fantastic, all 3 secondary suites were dull to drab. Kitchen was well-supplied. Parking was fairly easy in comparison to many other SJ properties. This was about the quickest access you could have to North shore beaches without actually staying on the North Shore. If more attention were paid to secondary bedrooms, I would recommend Summerwind to large groups.

St. John Perfection!

This was my and my wife's second trip to St. John and the first for our other 4 travelers. I could not have been happier with the location that provided easy access to the North Shore beaches (less than 10 minutes to Maho), was completely secluded from neighbors, and was almost equidistant to Cruz and Coral Bays (Coral is a few minutes closer). If you want a location that feels like it's just you and your family - this is it! If you prefer walking distance to restaurants and stores, you'd probably be best in Cruz Bay. Summerwind itself has a fantastic view of the valley down to Coral Bay that the pictures here just don't do justice. The deck off the great room overlooks this view and has plenty of seating for meals or enjoying the sunrise with your morning coffee. The pool is refreshing after spending the day at the beach - where the heat and humidity are much different than the villa's location on Bordeaux Mountain with it's steady breezes. If you like to cook, you'll be hard pressed to find a better appointed kitchen. All the appliances are top notch, as well are the pots pans and cutlery. The kitchen is also open to the rest of the great room which has vaulted ceilings with fans. Between the fans, the four patio doors and several windows, no A/C was needed and the great room almost has an open air feel. There's plenty of seating for meals, satellite TV and plenty of games for rainy days. The CD selection and high quality stereo were also a nice amenity. The master bedroom is huge and is quite a bit larger than the other 3 bedrooms, so be aware when booking. The other bedrooms are very nice and have attached baths. Beds were all very comfortable and everything was very clean. Be aware that the bedroom with the washer and dryer is set away from the other rooms and is probably not appropriate for small children. Also, the cistern pump is located against the wall of this bedroom. It came on occasionally throughout the night, so if you're not a sound sleeper it will wake you. Other amenities like pool floats, coolers and beach chairs provided everything we could have needed. We'll definitely return to St. John and if we come back with a group we would definitely choose Summerwind again!

Beautiful villa with fantastic views of Coral Bay

After twelve years I finally got a chance to return to St. John and once again stay at Summerwind. Our mini family reunion included my parents and my daughter's family. There was plenty of space for all of us. We ventured off the mountain for beach excursions, hikes, or to sample the local restaurants, but we were also content to sit by the pool, soak in the hot tub, or relax in the shade of the covered porch. High above Coral Bay the view from the house is amazing!!! Hopefully it won't take me another twelve years to return.

Great Family Trip! Amazing Views and Pool

We spent the last 10 nights at Summerwind and had a great time. The house was well located between the beaches, Cruz and Coral Bay. From my 2 yr old daughter to the grandparents, everyone enjoyed the house and St John. The views from the house are amazing and the climate is better than in town or elsewhere on the island as the Breeze keeps the temperature perfect. The house had good fencing to keep my daughter from getting into too much trouble. One of the big selling points to the house was that we could setup my daughters bed in the very large walk in closet in the master bedroom which allowed us to keep an eye on her w/o having her directly in the room or on another level of the house with her own door to the outside. The house had everything we needed.

By far the best house on Bordeaux mountain

I have visited Saint Johns multiple times and Summer winds is by the most astonishing house I have rented. The views from every room of coral bay are just breathtaking along with the sounds of tropical birds chirping makes this house a piece of tropical heaven. My only complaint was that I didn't book the house for two weeks. I never thought an estate could be this gorgeous !

An oasis of comfort in an island paradise, Summerwind is a special vacation spot

This was our second vacation to St. John, and we cannot say enough good things about the experience. St. John is, of course, spectacular; and, for folks who love spending time at the beach in a tropical setting, this island simply cannot be beat. We have been to literally a dozen Caribbean destinations, and St. John is easily our favorite. You couldn't see all the beaches on this island if you had twice the time; and each of them has a distinctive flavor and personality. Some days you feel like private swimming in a quiet cove, and others you feel like splashing around off a wavier shore. On still other days, you'll want to venture further out of the harbor for some of the best snorkeling you'll find anywhere. Best of all, even in the dead of our winter, this beautiful water -- ranging in color from a bright aqua to the deep blue of Windex -- never got below 85 degrees all week. Our kids had to be dragged out. As for Summerwind, we couldn't have asked for a lovelier venue. Everything about the place has been done just right. No expense has been spared, but the feel of this mountain villa is consistently one of relaxed and easy-going comfort. The bedrooms are spacious and private, and the furnishings in the main house are oversized for casual flopping. The kitchen is outfitted with virtually everything you could ever want for dining in -- a terrific porch grill, modern gas stove, panini-maker, multiple blenders, and even an electric wine chiller. Even the cooking utensils, dishes and flatware are the quality you'd have in your own home. Then there are the little details that truly make the place: a gorgeous pool surrounded by oversized furniture; an outdoor hot-tub that comfortably seats four (perfect for end-of-day unwinding with a cocktail); a hillside porch that overlooks Coral Bay; a huge flat-screen TV in the family room; a quality sound system with 60-odd CDs to suit every musical taste (Sinatra, Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Chesney, Billie Holiday, James Taylor, etc.); board games of all kinds for kids of different ages; and an outdoor shower spilling off the master bedroom that looks and feels like a little rock quarry. Every inch of the place is easy, relaxed and comfortable. The long and the short of it is that there are a ton of terrific experiences to be had on St. John; but Summerwind is the kind of place you are in no hurry to leave. We will surely visit again.

A return to paradise

We returned again this year to the Summer Wind and spent the week in St. John luxury. The home sported beautiful new furniture in the great room and vast balcony. There was even new pool furniture including oversized lounge chairs with enough room for the whole family. You can just relax at Summer Wind and enjoy the stunning view from top of Bordeaux Mountain. The pool was refreshing and easily entertained the kids, while the hot tub was a treat. The kitchen is well appointed. There's a large table inside the great room as well balcony dining options. All in all, staying at the Summer Wind is simply a wonderful way to ensure a perfect vacation.

Escape the harsh New England winter

Arriving from the cold and harsh winter of Cape Cod, Summer Wind welcomed us with the most beautiful and peaceful view on the island of St. John. We have rented Summer Wind on four different occasions and have never been disappointed. Let’s begin with the actual house. This place is always very well maintained and is extremely clean upon our arrival. The main living area (living room / kitchen / dining room) is spacious and well appointed. The kitchen is stocked with just about every utensil that one will ever need and there is a gas grill right outside one of four sliding doors. The bedrooms are a walk across the patio from the main house, so while your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews are running around the main living area, you may rest in a slumber without a sound. The house makes for a great multi-generational / friends vacation destination. The master bedroom is huge with a beautiful bathroom and a stone-walled private outdoor shower. The other bedrooms are clean, well-furnished and have their own bathrooms. Now, the outside of the house: The sun-deck, pool and hot tub are situated so that no one on the island has any visibility to those areas, while you retain your view of Coral Bay and Tortola. The pool and the hot tub are very well maintained and there are ample lounge chairs for sitting / laying around the pool. What a view: The house is on the quiet side of St. John with a breath-taking view of Coral Bay and Tortola. We so enjoyed grilling in with friends, while the sun was setting and the night arrived upon us. The veranda that runs the length of the property looks down along a beautiful lush green valley. One must eat and drink. As I mentioned earlier, we enjoy grilling in, but our favorite places to eat are in Coral Bay. Simple menus, but absolutely delicious. They include Aqua Bistro, Miss Lucy’s and of course, everyone from Boston’s favorite, Skinny Legs. The beaches, the beaches. We love Francis Bay for snorkeling, with big schools of tropical fish 10 feet from the edge of the beach. Water Lemon Cay has a herd of sea turtles. Although a bit of a drive, two of my favorite beaches are Great Lameshur Bay and Lameshure Bay. A little off the beaten path, but worth the ride. In summary, this is the only VRBO review that I have ever taken the time to write, however we have been blessed with our time at Summer Wind and we simply want to share our experience with you.

Beautiful home offers a slice of paradise.

We spent a wonderful week here in the summer. This villa was the perfection selection for our stay on St. John. From the location on the hill overlooking Coral Bay to the beautiful accommodations to the amazing views, everything was wonderful! All the bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable and come with a breathtaking view of the sunrise over Coral Bay. Each bedroom contains a beautiful en suite bath. Summer turned out to be a great time of the year to visit. The beaches were not very crowded but we still found it difficult to tear ourselves away our private pool and hot tub. We are looking forward to another opportunity to return to this island paradise.

Bliss at Summerwind Villa

Where to begin- the magic of the island itself or the sheer bliss of the house on the cliff overlooking Coral Bay? The house had everything we needed and whatever we wanted. We all had private immaculate sleeping pods w/ en suites, and I would wake up, roll over and watch the sunrise through the sliding doors every morning. Banana trees shaded the walkway from the main house to the pods. The main house has modern comfortable furnishings and a wide porch perfect for happy hour. We spent plenty of time relaxing in the pool and letting the hot tub massage our muscles after a day of hiking in the nature preserve. We went everywhere, driving on the crazy windy roads and visiting shops and bars and afterward, It was perfect to come back “home” to Summer Wind. Skinny Legs bar restaurant was a blast, snorkeling was amazing, and if you’re lucky enough to go with someone you love, it is VERY romantic! The only disappointing part was leaving!

HEAVEN ON EARTH-Tranquil, beautiful, gorgeous Villa and Excellent Location

I don' t know why it has taken me so long to write...just on my list to do and now I am getting it done. St. John is beautfiful...last time there we stayed at a fancy hotel closer to Cruz Bay. It was fine. However, this time we wanted to be more one with the island. And our children were older 10 and 14. We rented our lime green jeep and away we went up beautiful switch back roads to arrive at this incredibly beautiful, private and spacious villa. The views are what killed me every morning, afternoon and night. The property borders conservation park lands so there truly are no other properties nearby/in view. The view itself looks out onto the Coral Bay area I believe...and the breeze is a constant refresher at that level. The pool is big and clean as well as the hot tub. The villa has many bedrooms on separate levels so very private if you are with more than your own family. And then a separate area with a large living/dining area area off the kitchen. A terrace surrounds the level for additional outdoor seating. We will be back sometime in the next year. Clean, modern, spacious and above all, the Views. Well located area of island. Just writing this review makes me want to jet blue now and book my ticket! :)

A Wonderful House, With An Even Better View

I had the great pleasure of staying at Summer Wind during the summer. I can honestly say that the views posted on the website don't do justice to the actually views you see once you arrive. Nothing like sipping a cup of coffee on the balcony while watching the blue Caribbean waters. Given the pool and spacious common areas, you may not want to leave the house. However, if you do, the town, beaches and other attractions are just a short drive away. I highly recommend Summer Wind.

Luxury house with awesome views, pool, bedrooms & great room

We stayed at this home with another family. The kids played for hours in the large pool while the adults relaxed in the shady hot tub. Perched high atop Bordeaux Mountain, every room in the house has a stunning view down to the bay and out the channel. The great room is huge and tastefully decorated in a modern, tropical style. It can accommodate games, tv, dining, cooking, and a little vacation work all at once. The kitchen is well-equipped and we made many memorable meals. Outside the great room is a full-length deck with ample seating for outdoor dining, relaxing and cocktails. Each bedroom has a private bath, and the master has a particularly stunning bath and shower. The rooms are very comfortable. We did not use the air conditioning much, due to the cool, dry breezes high on the mountainside (whereas down by the shore, it was a bit sticky at night). But the A/C is there if you need it. While we had kids with us, the site is very, very romantic, and would make an excellent getaway for adults and couples. There are many great beaches on this end of the island and they don't see the cruise boat traffic that, say, Trunk Bay gets. We were able to see rays and sea turtles, as well as abundant fish and coral. We love St John and have been there 5 times. This is by far the best location and nicest property that we've stayed in. I checked the recommendation for people with disabilities, so long as you can manage a flight of stairs.

Amazing vacation home to be treasured !

Summerwind was an ideal vacation for 7 of us; 0ne family of 4 and second family of 3. The setting and view overlooking the island is gorgeous; forever engrained in my mind. The house and layout of the bedrooms, kitchen/dining room/living room is very family friendly. The bedrooms are spacious, clean, elegantly decorated and still have a casual feel. The kitchen, dining room, living room ("great room") is where we all spent most of our indoor time together; as well, tastefully decorated, comfortable and family friendly. Janet and Steve provide everything you need to cook, information about the island, places to visit, eat and all the nooks and crannies of St. John. Everyone enjoyed the pool on the main floor, extending our water time and fun.Janet and Steve have thoughtfully and graciously provided a gem of a vacation home ! I would love to go back !

Warm summer breezes, french wines and cheeses....

We ended up at Summer Wind on a recommendation from friends who had stayed here before. WOW! I wondered why it took them so long to tell us about this amazing getaway. Were they trying to keep it to themselves? Fabulous central island location with commanding views of Coral Bay and Tortola. Huge "great room" with air conditioning - great for families. Then again, we rarely used the air conditioning as the cool island breezes swept through the villa and its broad balcony. The private pool was great for afternoon fun, while the private hot tub was big enough for everyone to relax in. Each room had its own bathroom and shower along with plenty of privacy. We shall return!

A Slice of Paradise

As a family with teenage girls, one hotel room is never enough. Instead we found this fantastic villa that you never have to leave. Air conditioned great room with tons of space and comfy sofas. Gourmet kitchen so eating in is actually fun Fantastic views on wind swept balcony Refreshing pool for afternoon floats Huge hot tub for relaxing evenings or romantic nights after the girls have gone to bed Wi fi so the teenagers do not suffer from withdrawal Separate bedrooms each with its own large bed and bathroom Washer/dryer so you don't have to take your entire closet of clothes All the comforts combined with Island hospitality, commanding views, and island breezes. Simply wonderful.

Summer Wind, St. John, USVI

Location, location, location! If you are looking to book a villa on St. John that affords you spectacular views, privacy and comfort, look no further than Summer Wind. Situated 1,000 feet above sea level, Summer Wind is located on a tranquil parcel on Bordeaux Mountain, St. John's highest peak. Easily accessible in 15 minutes via the main, paved road from Cruz Bay, and surrounded by other villas (but not so close that you hear noise from any of them), Summer Wind overlooks Coral Bay, the Sir Francis Drake Channel, and many of the BVIs. It is only a 10 minute drive into the smaller town of Coral Bay (which offers some fun restaurants, not to be outdone by the many restaurants located in Cruz Bay). It is a 15 minutes drive to the North Shore's National Park beaches, which offer excellent snorkeling and hiking along-side St. John's ruins. While island life is quickly accessible from Summer Wind via winding island roads, it is noteworthy that just a 5-minute walk down from the villa is the recommended Chateau Bordeaux restaurant, which also houses a gift shop with quality items, including silver jewelry and island clothing. (You might just get to see the donkeys who hang out along this stretch of road gnawing the grass beside the hard-top.) The Summer Wind villa, featuring comfortable furniture, televisions and a DVD player, stereo, WI-FI, air conditioning and marble floors, consists of two well maintained structures, each located next to the centrally located pool, Jacuzzi and sun-deck, which separates the two buildings. The main house boasts an open design and has a living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom and covered deck (there is no better way to start the day than by enjoying breakfast on the deck while taking in the stunning views). The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking appliances and utensils, pots and pans, and a powerful blender (yielding fun, tropical drinks). There is a gas grill on the deck. The second building houses the spacious master bedroom, and the other three bedrooms (each with a bathroom) span the lower floors of both buildings. Quite unique in lay-out, this affords a larger group greater privacy than typically found in a vacation villa. Summer Wind has all the comforts of home--and the views we wish we had at home!
