What an amazing special property! My family and I had a great retreat getaway. Everything was very clean, and the property was very peaceful. We had plenty of room and there was so much character at the Stonehouse. I would Highly recommend it!

Andrea! Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re so glad you had such a lovely time. You were such wonderful guests and we hope you'll come back soon!
Warmly,

Beautiful home, and lovely host. She was thoughtful, accommodating and a pleasure. Definitely had a spa like feel and you can even order services to the house. Great for a girls weekend. Be aware the kitchen is in the basement which worked out fine for us but flagging for anyone with a mobility issue. There is also just one full bathroom if thats on your radar. Other than that the outdoor space is lovely and you drive up to a beautiful stone cottage. Great vibe!

Thank you for your lovely review… our first! Yes, we just put the new kitchen and dining room in the lower level in what was the “enoteca” (wine tasting gallery)… did you see the big stone wine bottle hidden in the stone wall? The folks who built The Stone House loved wine and even grew their own grapes. 🍇
We so enjoyed having you and hope when you come to town next, you’ll stay with us again!
Property is very well kept, but there are minor details that need to be remedied to have it earn 5 stars. First, it is listed as 1 and a 1/2 bath, this is simply not accurate. There was one full bath, which was exceptional, but then there was a sink in the master bedroom and an outside shower. A half bath implies a toilet. Fix the listing. One toilet for 7-8 people, not ideal. That was the major issue we had. The other items we could work around - no pot holders or trivets (if there were, we couldn’t locate them. No beverage glasses, only wine and coffee mugs. Another item worth mentioning was the placement of the tv in the grand room on the second floor. It should be moved to the corner and angled so those on the couch can see without a full turn of the head. Also, current placement of the tv makes watching during the morning hours impossible due to the sun glare from the beautiful window (that is shadeless). The last item worth mentioning is the sink in the master bedroom, while looking quite beautiful, was simply impractical and essentially non functional. If it is there only for water use (to drink), then put a sign - as there was no practical way to wash one’s face or brush one’s teeth. Please know we mention these things to make your VRBO listing the true exception that the house could be. Otherwise a very nice stay for our long weekend getaway.

Dear Jason, thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We truly appreciate all the detail, suggestions, and time you took to share with us. When we read that you’d mentioned no beverage glasses, we ran over to double check… and found the new glasses in the closet, but not yet put out! Thank you for alerting us.
We are a new listing and your feedback about glare, TV, bath listing (we’ll ask Vrbo about this - it’s an “auto listing element”) and all that you shared is truly appreciated and helpful.
We hope to have the opportunity to host you all again… we’ll make sure the new glasses are definitely in the cabinet!
Warmly,
🕊️CJ

Why they chose this property
The Stone House sits on 10 private acres bordering more than 600 acres of wildlife preserve, yet is within 10 miles of nearly everything - beaches, vineyards, Stonington Harbor, Mystic, Foxwoods, and more. Somehow, Mystic Pizza and even two Dunkin' Donuts are just down the road... though you'd never know it.
The Stone House offers a rare combination: the serenity of a secluded country estate with the convenience of modern life. Watch deer graze and wild turkeys wander, then order from DoorDash, InstaCart, and even Home Depot.
It's the best of both worlds!
What makes this property unique
The Stone House is an actual French château, inspired by the timeless architecture of the French countryside. While a château may be a manor, palace, or even a castle, it can also mean a stately home built in the French tradition. The Stone House embodies many of these defining characteristics: natural stone construction, a steeply pitched roof, balanced proportions, tall divided-light windows, arched openings, and handcrafted French doors that lend a refined, yet unstated elegance.
Although I have only had the privilege of calling The Stone House home for a few years, it was meticulously designed and built in 2004 by artisans as both a showcase of their craftsmanship and a retreat for enjoying fine wines, perhaps made from grapes grown on the property. A few of those vines still wind gracefully along the fence surrounding the Old Garden.
From its architecture to its engineering, The Stone House took my breath away the first time I saw it. It is an extraordinary home in an unexpected place, and it is truly my pleasure to share it with you.
